For a round face, consider haircuts that add some height or texture on top while keeping extra width at the sides in check. There is no single best cut: hair type, density, styling time, and personal taste all matter. Use the styles below as starting points, then ask your barber to adapt one to your hair and the look you want.
What to look for in a haircut
Round faces are commonly described as having similar width and length, with soft or curved features. That assessment is approximate, not a strict category. Face shape can help narrow down haircut ideas, but it does not change your facial structure or dictate what you should wear. The practical styling principle is to consider some lift or texture on top, control bulk at the sides—particularly beside the cheeks—and use a direction such as upward or diagonal styling to add visual structure. Face Shape Detector’s round-face guide and CADMEN Barber Academy’s face-shape guide both frame face shape as a starting point rather than a rulebook.

A short, textured top and controlled sides make this a relatively low-effort option. Ask about an angled or soft fringe rather than adding bulk beside the cheeks. A matte clay or paste can help separate the texture, if you want to style it.

2. Ivy League
This short, neat cut uses a side part and tapered sides for a more conservative shape without requiring dramatic height. It can be a sensible direction if you want structure with a tidy finish rather than a statement-making top.
3. Controlled quiff
A moderate lift at the front creates an upward direction while the sides stay close. Keep the height proportionate to your preference; an extreme quiff is not necessary to get a lifted shape.

6. Curly taper
Keep curl definition on top and taper around the temples and neckline to manage side bulk. This approach preserves the character of curls rather than flattening them; ask the barber to account for how your curls sit when dry.
7. Crew cut with a short beard
A crew cut keeps the hair short and simple. If you wear facial hair, a neat, squared beard line can add definition around the jaw; the beard is optional, not a requirement for the haircut to work.

10. Undercut with a longer top
Short sides paired with a medium-to-longer top can create apparent length when the top is styled upward or diagonally. The contrast can feel more dramatic than a taper, so decide how distinct you want the sides to look before committing.

Hair type and styling effort can narrow the options. These are qualitative suggestions from the reviewed guides, not guarantees that a style will suit every person with that hair type.
- Straight hair: Consider a textured crop, Ivy League, or short quiff. Matte clay or paste is one product category suggested for separation and texture.
- Wavy hair: Consider a side part or medium-length textured top. Light cream or sea-salt spray are suggested product categories for working with waves.
- Curly hair: A defined curly taper keeps curls on top while controlling the sides.
- Fine or thick hair: Ask your barber to tailor the top length and amount of lift to your density. The sources do not establish a single best cut for either category.
- Less styling time: Start with shorter options such as a textured crop or Ivy League. Lifted styles such as a quiff or pompadour generally call for more deliberate styling.
Compare the overall shape before you decide

The guides provide practical styling suggestions rather than controlled comparisons, so the table describes the intended shape and feel—not objective performance or a universal ranking.

What to tell your barber
Bring a reference image that shows the top and sides clearly. You can say: “I want to keep the sides controlled and leave enough texture on top to style upward or slightly to the side. Can you adjust the fade and top length for my hair type and how much time I spend styling?” Then discuss the side bulk around your cheeks, preferred fade height, top direction, and—if relevant—whether you want a beard line to add definition. A barber can adapt the reference to how your own hair behaves.
