Time+Tide’s 2020 selection brings together ten sports watches below the article’s $10,000 threshold, led by divers and joined by one chronograph. It is a curated list, not a numbered ranking: the watches span compact and oversized cases, different levels of water resistance, and prices originally stated in AUD, USD or CHF.
What the 2020 selection includes
Time+Tide’s article by US Editor Zach Blass, dated 06.11.20, introduced the list with: “There has been no shortage of divers and chronographs this year, so we have compiled the best sports watches of 2020 under $10,000.” Its ten model headings were not numbered, so the order below is not a best-to-worst ranking. The specifications and prices are those stated in that 2020 article, not confirmed current prices.
Ten sports watches to compare
Bulgari Aluminium time-only
The 2020 relaunch gave the Aluminium a more robust take on the original concept: a 40 mm aluminium case paired with a rubber bracelet incorporating aluminium links. Time+Tide singled out its lightness and comfort, and its ability to work across sporty and more formal settings. The article stated a price of $4,340 AUD.
DOXA SUB 300
This diver pairs a 42 mm case with a 45 mm lug-to-lug measurement, a boxed sapphire crystal and a rubber strap with a dive extension. Its colourful options make it a more distinctive choice than a conventional monochrome diver. The 2020 article listed $3,950 AUD on rubber or $3,990 AUD on bracelet.

The U50 uses German Submarine Steel for its case and a TEGIMENT-treated steel timing bezel. A screwed-down caseback and crown, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and reported 500 m depth rating round out a design focused on legibility and robust dive use. Time+Tide gave a starting RRP of $2,380 USD.

The dial displays decompression stops, and the article describes three interchangeable straps. Its stated RRP was $1,250 USD.
TAG Heuer Carrera Chrono Sport
The sole chronograph in the selection is a 44 mm Carrera with a ceramic bezel, 100 m water resistance and an in-house column-wheel chronograph movement. Time+Tide presented it as an alternative to the many divers in the list. Its stated RRP was $5,750 USD.

Rado Captain Cook Bronze
This 42 mm bronze diver was offered in multiple dial and bezel color configurations. The article gives a 12.5 mm thickness, ceramic bezel, screw-down crown, 300 m water resistance and up to 80 hours of power reserve. Its stated RRP was $2,600 USD.
Ming 18.01 H41 Diver
Described as the brand’s first production diver, the 18.01 H41 pairs a 40 mm case with a 46 mm lug-to-lug length. Its hands, markers and timing bezel are luminescent, and the article reports a 1,000 m depth rating. The stated RRP was CHF 2,950–3,250.
How to choose among them
For a diver or water-focused sport
The Longines HydroConquest and Rado Captain Cook Bronze each have a stated 300 m water-resistance rating. Sinn’s U50 is rated to 500 m, while Ming’s 18.01 H41 is listed at 1,000 m. Those ratings are not a substitute for checking a watch’s condition, crown and seals—especially for a pre-owned example—and a depth rating alone does not establish suitability for every activity.

For a more colorful or vintage-leaning diver, compare the DOXA SUB 300, Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961 and Tudor Black Bay Fifty-Eight Blue. The Mido’s decompression-stop display is a distinctive dial feature; do not treat it as a substitute for a dive computer or current dive-planning guidance.
For daily wear and fit
Case diameter is only one part of fit. The DOXA’s 45 mm and Ming’s 46 mm lug-to-lug figures help indicate how far each case spans across the wrist; Seiko lists 47.6 mm, the longest stated lug-to-lug measurement here. The Bulgari is notable for its 40 mm aluminium case and lightness, while the TAG Heuer’s 44 mm case is the largest diameter stated. These measurements do not establish how a particular watch will fit every wrist.
For movement features
Power reserve ranges from the Seiko’s stated 70 hours to the Mido’s 80 hours and the Rado’s “up to 80 hours”; Tudor’s listed reserve is 72 hours. Reserve figures describe how long a fully wound watch can run under the relevant conditions, not its accuracy. The Seiko article separately reports regulation of +25/-15 seconds, and the Tudor entry notes its silicon hairspring. The Carrera is the pick here if a chronograph function is the priority.

For materials and versatility
The Bulgari combines aluminium with rubber and aluminium bracelet links; Sinn specifies German Submarine Steel and a TEGIMENT-treated bezel; Rado’s bronze case develops a different look with wear. What to check before buying one now
This is a historical 2020 selection, not a live catalog. Before buying, verify the exact reference, whether it is still available, the seller’s local price and currency, and the watch’s condition. For a used diver, ask about service history and water-resistance testing rather than assuming the original rating still applies. For limited editions such as the Seiko SPB149 and Mido Ocean Star Decompression Timer 1961, confirm that the specific example and its included accessories match the seller’s description.
