The Zenith Chronomaster Revival El Primero A3817 (reference 03.A384.400/3817.M3817) pairs the sporty, 37 mm tonneau-shaped steel case associated with the A384 with the white tri-colour dial associated with the A386. That combination—not a different movement family—is what makes this 2021 revival distinctive among the El Primero designs.
What makes the A3817 different from the A384 and A386?
The A3817 brings together two design cues Zenith used on different early El Primero models. It has the angled tonneau-shaped case and pump-style pushers associated with the A384, but its white dial and three contrasting chronograph registers recall the A386. It is therefore a design bridge between the two, not simply another A384 with a new name.
| Model | Case design | Dial distinction |
|---|---|---|
| A3817 | Sporty tonneau-shaped case, like the A384 | White tri-colour dial, associated with the A386 |
| A384 | Tonneau-shaped case | Not specified in the cited comparison; Zenith’s A3817 announcement distinguishes the A3817 by its A386-style tri-colour dial |
| A386 | Round case family | Tri-colour dial; the A3817 borrows this visual language |
These are design-history distinctions, not a ranking of which watch is better. The exact modern A3817 reference is 03.A384.400/3817.M3817; keeping the full reference in view helps distinguish it from vintage A3817 examples and other A384 Revival watches.
How the original A3817 fits into El Primero history
The El Primero debuted in 1969. Zenith’s account separates early steel tonneau models such as the A384 from rounder models such as the A386. Released in 1971, the original A3817 combined the tonneau case with a tri-colour dial. Zenith says 1,000 original pieces were produced; that is the manufacturer’s published figure, not an independently verified count.

- Zenith Chronomaster Revival El Primero Chronograph Automatic White Dial Men's Watch 03.A384.400/21.C815
Zenith announced the modern Revival on May 18, 2021, describing it as a remake of the 1971 watch. The brand said it used historical blueprints and reverse-engineering to preserve the original proportions and finishes. Zenith’s launch announcement describes the watch this way: “The Chronomaster Revival A3817 is crafted in the same angled tonneau-shaped case with pump-style pushers as the original, using historical blueprints and reverse-engineering to preserve the original proportions and finishes.”
Dial details that identify the A3817
The A3817’s white lacquered dial carries grey and blue chronograph counters. At nine o’clock, the running-seconds register has blue markings and a blue hand. Around the dial, a pyramid-pattern seconds track—often called a “shark tooth” track—adds another recognizable detail. Zenith says the outer tachymeter scale also functions as a pulsometer, giving it a second purpose beyond measuring speed.

- Featuring a Silver-tone Band, Silver-tone Case, Scratch Resistant Sapphire Crystal
- Item shape: Tonneau
Together, the contrasting counters, blue running-seconds details, and toothed-looking seconds track give the watch a more specific identity than the broad description “A384 case with an A386 dial” alone suggests.
Case, movement and other specifications
Zenith’s official listing identifies the modern model as a stainless-steel watch with a 37 mm case and an El Primero movement running at 36,000 VpH (5 Hz). The manufacturer lists approximately 50 hours of power reserve and 5 ATM water resistance. Those are the official specifications for reference 03.A384.400/3817.M3817; see Zenith’s product page.

| Height and lug-to-lug | 12.6 mm height and 47 mm lug-to-lug — reported by Fratello in its June 19, 2021 review, not in the cited Zenith specification summary |
Fratello’s June 19, 2021 review also reports a sapphire crystal and display back, and describes the watch with either a brown calfskin strap or a Gay Frères ladder bracelet. The review identifies calibre 400 and lists time, date, chronograph, tachymeter, and pulsometer functions. For fit, the manufacturer’s 37 mm diameter is only one part of the picture: the review-reported 47 mm lug-to-lug and 12.6 mm height offer additional context, though wrist comfort depends on the wearer and strap configuration.
Strap choice, price and availability
The cited sources show two strap configurations: brown calfskin and a steel ladder bracelet. Fratello’s June 2021 review listed €7,800 on leather and €8,300 on the ladder bracelet at that time. Those are historical review-era prices, not current quotes.
Zenith’s Spanish localized listing displayed €10,000 and “sold out” when observed on October 8, 2026. That is a dated, region-specific listing state and may change; it does not establish a universal current price, present availability in other markets, or the watch’s pre-owned value. Check the listing for the relevant region and confirm stock with an authorized retailer before treating a price or availability status as current.
When considering a specific example, verify the full reference, included strap or bracelet, and the condition and availability of that exact watch. The cited sources do not establish current inventory across regions, secondary-market value, service costs, or regional warranty terms.
Is the A3817 the right El Primero Revival for you?
The A3817 is the clearest fit if you want the A384’s angular steel case but prefer the visual contrast of a white tri-colour dial. Choose between the calfskin and ladder-bracelet versions based on the configuration you want, and use the review-reported height and lug-to-lug alongside the 37 mm diameter when judging fit. Its appeal is primarily the way it connects two early El Primero design directions in one modern reference.
