1931: A Geneva Observatory precision record
OMEGA’s chronology marks a precision record at the Geneva Observatory in 1931. It does not provide the record’s result or the conditions behind it, so this milestone signals the company’s presence in precision chronometry without implying a particular performance figure. The chronology also lists another, separate development from the same year.

1931: A two-weight automatic movement
Alongside the observatory record, OMEGA lists a two-weight automatic movement in 1931. These are distinct milestones: one concerns precision at an observatory, the other movement design. OMEGA’s chronology gives the date and description.

1932: OMEGA becomes Olympic Official Timekeeper

1952: The first Constellation chronometer
OMEGA lists the arrival of its first Constellation chronometer in 1952. The date marks the beginning of a second notable collection in the chronology, four years after the Seamaster’s introduction. The brand’s timeline identifies the milestone.

1957: The Professional watches begin
OMEGA labels 1957 the start of its Professional watches. The chronology groups this as a milestone rather than describing every model or the collection’s full development. OMEGA’s watchmaking chronology provides the year.

1965: NASA qualifies the Speedmaster
OMEGA says NASA declared the Speedmaster “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions” on March 1, 1965. The company also says the watch has since been part of every Moon landing. This is a qualification milestone tied to the Speedmaster, not a statement that every OMEGA watch was space-qualified. OMEGA’s account of its space history gives the date and wording.

1999: The Co-Axial escapement
OMEGA dates the introduction of its Co-Axial watch escapement to 1999. An escapement is the movement component that regulates the release of energy to the timekeeping mechanism. OMEGA describes its design as reducing friction and supporting longer-term precision; that is the brand’s characterization of the technology. OMEGA’s history overview describes the development.

2015: Master Chronometer certification
OMEGA introduced its Master Chronometer certification in 2015, with the Globemaster the first watch to attain it. Unlike the Co-Axial escapement, which is a movement-design development, Master Chronometer is a whole-watch certification program. OMEGA describes its criteria as covering precision, magnetic resistance, water resistance and power reserve. The company’s history overview identifies the launch and first certified watch.

These are the brand’s published test details, not an independent comparison with every other certification. OMEGA’s certification explanation outlines the process. In a separate 2025 statement, the company reported that more than 2.5 million watches had earned the Co-Axial Master Chronometer title; that is a brand-reported count, not an independently audited total. What the milestones show
OMEGA’s history is not only a sequence of watch collections. Its chronology also traces precision records, movement design, military supply, sports timing and spaceflight. The Seamaster and Constellation began in different years, while the Speedmaster’s NASA qualification and the later Co-Axial and Master Chronometer developments illustrate distinct kinds of achievement: an institutional qualification, a movement innovation and a whole-watch testing standard.
A newer development: the 2026 Constellation Observatory Collection
In 2026, OMEGA described its Constellation Observatory Collection as its first two-hand collection to achieve Master Chronometer certification using acoustic testing. This is a newer technical development, not a replacement for the 14 earlier milestones in this timeline. OMEGA’s announcement describes the collection and testing approach.
