It spans everyday, travel, dive and dress watches alongside rare luxury pieces, and its final entry has a visible heading/body mismatch. Before buying, narrow the field by use, wrist fit, movement, local price and the exact reference—not the list number.
What the 2025 list does—and does not—tell you
Gadget Review published its roundup on 14 July 2025. The article presents watches it considers worth attention, but does not compare every model against consistent criteria such as price, availability, dimensions or intended use. Its entries range from accessible options to high-end complications, so the numbering should not be read as a tested, apples-to-apples ranking. Read the original roundup.
There is also a concrete identification problem: the final heading names the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, but the text below it describes Grand Seiko’s SLGB003 and its 9RB2 Spring Drive Ultra Fine Accuracy movement. The article does not resolve which watch the entry was meant to cover. Treat that item as unverified rather than assigning the Grand Seiko details to Bulgari—or assuming the heading is correct.
The names appearing in the roundup include Tudor Black Bay 54 Lagoon Blue; Omega Speedmaster; Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Bronze Gold; Seiko Prospex Marine Master Professional; Seiko Prospex Heritage Divers; A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Honey Gold; Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds; Patek Philippe Calatrava; TAG Heuer Formula 1 SolarGraph; Longines Spirit Zulu Time; IWC Portofino Collection; Zenith Calibre 135 Observatoire; Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon; Nomos Zurich Weltzeit; Oris Hölstein Edition; and Christopher Ward The Twelve. The page has 16 numbered headings as rendered, including duplicated 18/17 numbering, rather than 18 distinct, reliably identified entries.

Choose by the job the watch needs to do
Start with how and where you will wear it. A travel watch with multiple time zones solves a different problem from a slim dress watch or a purpose-built diver. Collection names alone are not enough: features and specifications can vary by reference.
| Use | What to compare | Examples named in the roundup |
|---|---|---|
| Travel | Time-zone adjustment, legibility, power source, case size and ease of using the travel functions | Longines Spirit Zulu Time; Nomos Zurich Weltzeit; Seiko Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph is a separate 2025 Seiko example, not one of the roundup’s named entries |
| Diving and water use | Exact reference’s water-resistance rating, case and bracelet comfort, and whether its stated rating suits your intended activity | Seiko Prospex Marine Master Professional; Seiko Prospex Heritage Divers; Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Bronze Gold |
| Everyday wear | Wrist fit, thickness, dial readability, bracelet adjustment, power system and versatility with clothing | Tudor Black Bay 54 Lagoon Blue; Christopher Ward The Twelve; IWC Portofino Collection |
| Dress or formal wear | Case profile, dial and strap or bracelet preference, winding routine and service considerations | Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds; Patek Philippe Calatrava; A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Honey Gold |
| Technical or collector interest | Specific movement, complication, materials, rarity and the support available for the exact model | Zenith Calibre 135 Observatoire; the roundup’s unresolved final Bulgari/Grand Seiko entry |
These are starting points, not confirmed recommendations for a particular wearer. The roundup does not provide complete, comparable specifications for every named watch.
Check fit before brand or complication
A watch can look compelling on paper and still be uncomfortable in daily use. Compare case diameter and thickness with a watch you already find comfortable, then consider lug shape, weight, bracelet articulation and clasp adjustment. A diameter by itself does not predict fit: two watches with the same measurement can wear differently.

For the Seiko Astron references SSH175, SSH177 and SSH179, Seiko specified a 44.1 mm diameter and 14.4 mm thickness in its 12 March 2025 announcement. Those dimensions make trying the watch on especially useful if you prefer compact or low-profile watches. Seiko specified the limited-edition SSH180 at 44.3 mm by 14.4 mm. These are manufacturer specifications for those references, not measurements for every Astron or any other watch in the roundup. See Seiko’s announcement.
Understand what the movement means for ownership
Light-powered GPS and travel functions
The Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph references SSH175, SSH177 and SSH179, plus limited-edition SSH180, use Seiko Caliber 5X83. Seiko says it provides GPS-controlled time and time-zone adjustment, dual time, chronograph functions, a perpetual calendar, automatic daylight-saving adjustment and world time for 38 time zones. The movement draws energy from light. A GPS connection may require sunlight, and Seiko notes that manual time-zone selection may be needed when a region, time zone or daylight-saving rule changes. That combination may suit frequent travelers, but it is more feature-rich than a buyer needs if simple timekeeping is the priority.
Mechanical and manually wound watches
Several models in the roundup are mechanical watches, but that label does not make them interchangeable. Movement architecture, winding method, complications, precision claims, servicing and case design differ by model. The roundup’s descriptions are not a consistent technical comparison, so consult the manufacturer’s information for the precise reference you are considering.

Hodinkee’s 19 December 2025 editors’ roundup illustrates how personal selection can be: Tim Jeffreys named the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface Small Seconds, Dennison ALD Dual Time and Daniel Roth Tourbillon in platinum among his picks. That is an editor’s taste, not an objective ranking or a technical endorsement. See Hodinkee’s editors’ picks.
Verify the exact specification and intended use
Do not generalize a feature across a collection or rely on a roundup’s shorthand where the exact reference matters. The source article describes the Tudor Black Bay 54 Lagoon Blue as 37 mm and water resistant to 200 m; the Seiko Prospex Marine Master Professional as a titanium monobloc diver rated to 600 m with a 72-hour reserve; and the Seiko Prospex Heritage Divers as limited blue and silver GMT variants using Caliber 6R54. Those claims come from the roundup, not independently validated manufacturer specifications here. Confirm them against the brand’s page for the exact reference before relying on them.
For any watch intended for swimming or diving, check the manufacturer’s guidance for that model and activity. A water-resistance figure is a model-specific specification, not a blanket guarantee that every watch in a family is suitable for every kind of water use.

What Seiko’s 2025 Astron announcement establishes
Seiko announced the Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph collection on 12 March 2025, with release planned for May through Seiko boutiques and select retailers. That is launch information, not confirmation of current stock, distribution or price in every country. Seiko’s European recommended retail prices at announcement were €3,200 for SSH175 and SSH177, and €3,400 for SSH179 and limited-edition SSH180. These are dated Europe launch prices, not current or global prices.
| Reference group | Seiko-stated case size | Other stated details | Europe recommended retail price at 2025 announcement |
|---|---|---|---|
| SSH175 / SSH177 / SSH179 | 44.1 mm diameter; 14.4 mm thick | Titanium case and bracelet with hard coating; dual-curved sapphire crystal; 10 bar water resistance | €3,200 for SSH175 / SSH177; €3,400 for SSH179 |
| SSH180 limited edition | 44.3 mm diameter; 14.4 mm thick | Limited to 1,500 pieces; Seiko states the same Caliber 5X83 functions and 10 bar water resistance | €3,400 |
All figures in the table are Seiko’s launch specifications and recommended European prices announced in March 2025; they are not independent measurements or a live offer. Confirm current regional pricing and reference availability with an authorized local seller. Seiko’s release lists the launch details.
Use prices and other roundups as leads, not current offers
Gadget Review’s 2025 article mentions approximate prices of $400 for the TAG Heuer Formula 1 SolarGraph, $2,800 for the Longines Spirit Zulu Time and $8,000 for the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Bronze Gold. It does not specify the market, exact reference or tax basis for those figures, so they are not dependable current buying prices. Check the local brand or retailer listing for the exact model.
Other 2025 roundups show the range of watches that received attention, not a definitive set of winners. Gear Patrol, for example, reported a 23.4 mm case, 200 m water resistance and six-gram weight for the Casio G-Shock Nano DWN-5600, and described the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6196P as having a 38 mm case and manual-wind movement. These are that publication’s reported specifications; they are not entries that should be added to Gadget Review’s list without qualification. See Gear Patrol’s 2025 roundup.
A practical shortlist before you buy
- Choose the use case. Decide whether the watch is mainly for travel, diving, everyday wear, formal occasions or collecting.
- Find the exact reference. Record the model or reference number; collection names can cover different sizes, movements and specifications.
- Check wrist fit. Compare diameter and thickness, then assess lug shape, weight, bracelet adjustment and comfort in person where possible.
- Match the power system to your habits. Decide whether you want a battery-powered or light-powered watch, a self-winding mechanical watch, or one that needs manual winding. For a feature-heavy travel watch, make sure you will actually use its functions.
- Verify practical specifications. Check the official details for accuracy, water resistance, materials, complications and service guidance on the precise reference.
- Confirm local cost and availability. Ask about the current price, tax, warranty, authorized distribution and service options in your market; dated prices in a 2025 article are not a quote for today.
The list is useful for discovering names across very different watch categories. It cannot tell you which one suits your wrist, needs or budget without those reference-level checks. Citizen’s Caliber 0200/0210 mechanical lineup—including NC1000-51E and NC1001-58A—is additional category context, not part of the roundup. See Citizen’s official Caliber 0200/0210 lineup.
