The launch comprised three dial-and-strap combinations: black IW378001, blue IW378003 and green IW378005. Those launch references are distinct from IW378002, the black-dial steel-bracelet model on IWC’s current US product page.
What changed on the 2022 IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 43?
Monochrome Watches’ report of the 8 August 2022 launch describes the update against the preceding 43 mm generation. The diameter stayed at 43 mm, while reported case height fell from 15.4 mm to 14.8 mm and water resistance rose from 60 m to 100 m. The update also brought calibre 69385, a sapphire caseback, a new small-seconds position and EasX-CHANGE straps. Monochrome Watches’ launch report is the source for that generation-to-generation comparison.

The reported figures above describe the 2022 update and its predecessor, not a universal specification for every Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 43 reference currently on sale.
What is the difference between IW378001, IW378003 and IW378005?
In Monochrome’s 2022 launch coverage, the three references distinguish dial color and supplied calfskin strap. All are reported as 43 mm models, with a 21 mm strap width.

The launch report lists prices of EUR 7,700, CHF 7,300, USD 7,300 and GBP 6,250. These are 2022 launch prices reported by Monochrome, not current quotes.
Does the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 43 have the 69385 calibre?
Yes: the 2022 launch references were reported with IWC’s automatic calibre 69385. IWC’s current US product page for the separate IW378002 also specifies the 69385 and lists a 46-hour power reserve, 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), and 33 jewels. It describes a column-wheel chronograph capable of measuring stop or aggregate times up to 12 hours, with the hour counter at 9 o’clock, minute counter at 12 and red small-seconds hand at 6. The movement can be viewed through the sapphire caseback. IWC’s IW378002 product page specifies these current reference details.

The 69385’s component count is not consistent across the cited IWC and launch materials: IWC lists 242 components for IW378002, while Monochrome’s 2022 coverage and IWC’s 2021 Chronograph 41 press release describe 231 parts or components. The sources do not resolve the difference for these exact references, so neither figure should be treated as universal. IWC’s 2021 release describes the calibre’s column wheel and bidirectional pawl winding system in the context of the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41, not the 2022 43 mm launch. IWC’s 7 April 2021 press release provides that earlier context.

Reference numbers matter when checking specifications, pricing or supplied hardware. IWC’s current US page covers IW378002: a black-dial stainless-steel watch on a five-link bracelet with folding clasp, rather than the black-dial calfskin configuration IW378001 listed at launch. That page gives a 43 mm case, 14.8 mm height, 10 bar water resistance and a current US listing of US$9,000 excluding VAT. Treat that as a market-specific listing for IW378002, not as the 2022 price or a tax-inclusive price for all markets.

IWC says the EasX-CHANGE system on IW378002 allows bracelet or strap changes without additional tools. Its site also lists straps and bracelets as accessories. A 21 mm width alone does not establish compatibility with the proprietary connection, so check accessory fit against the exact reference before buying.
