The closest sourced alternative to the Rolex Explorer II 226570 is the TUDOR Black Bay Pro: it shares a fixed 24-hour bezel and a jumping local-hour hand, but comes in a smaller 39 mm case. The TUDOR Black Bay GMT is the better fit if you want a rotating 24-hour bezel. Both TUDOR options have 200 m water resistance and US manufacturer-listed prices well below the Rolex’s displayed $10,600 price, but neither is an identical substitute.
How the alternatives compare with the Explorer II
The Explorer II 226570 is a 42 mm Oystersteel GMT watch with a fixed graduated 24-hour bezel, date, 100 m water resistance and approximately 70 hours of power reserve. Rolex lists a US price of $10,600; that is the manufacturer’s displayed price, not a guarantee of transaction price or availability. Its official product page describes black- and white-dial versions.
These are the most useful distinctions among the three watches: bezel operation, case diameter and the manufacturer-listed US price range. Case diameter is only a starting point for judging fit.
| Watch | Case diameter | 24-hour bezel | Water resistance | Displayed US price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rolex Explorer II 226570 | 42 mm | Fixed | 100 m | $10,600 (Rolex US product page) |
| TUDOR Black Bay Pro | 39 mm | Fixed | 200 m | $4,725–$5,075 across configurations (TUDOR US family and product pages) |
| TUDOR Black Bay GMT, steel configurations | 41 mm | Bidirectional rotating | 200 m | $4,925–$5,275 across configurations (TUDOR US family and product pages) |
Manufacturer prices and availability can change; the TUDOR figures are US listings and should not be treated as universal prices. The Rolex reference details and price are on Rolex’s US Explorer II page; TUDOR’s current listings are for the Black Bay Pro and Black Bay GMT.

1. TUDOR Black Bay Pro: the closest feature match
The Black Bay Pro is the most direct alternative here if you want the Explorer II’s fixed-bezel approach and travel-oriented GMT handling in a smaller case. TUDOR describes a 39 mm case, fixed steel 24-hour bezel, yellow 24-hour hand, in-house GMT calibre MT5652 and about 70 hours of power reserve. The bracelet configuration M79470 is listed at $5,075 in the US and specifies 200 m water resistance; the family page lists other configurations from $4,725.
Why its GMT hand matters
Its local hour hand jumps independently, letting you adjust local time in hour increments while the other timekeeping hands continue running. That is useful when crossing time zones. The fixed bezel, however, cannot be turned to mark another time zone, and the smaller case may suit people who find a 42 mm watch too large. The shared layout makes it the closest match, not a replica: the case size, design and specifications differ.

2. TUDOR Black Bay GMT: choose it for the rotating bezel
The 41 mm steel Black Bay GMT has a 24-hour GMT hand and a bidirectional rotating 24-hour bezel. That rotating bezel is the clearest reason to pick it over the Black Bay Pro: it can be repositioned to help track an additional time zone. TUDOR lists 200 m water resistance; the steel-bracelet product page displays a US price of $5,275, while other family configurations are listed from $4,925.
Choose the Black Bay GMT if a rotating bezel is more important to you than matching the Explorer II’s fixed bezel. It is smaller than the 42 mm Rolex but larger than the 39 mm Pro. The cited family and product listings establish these specifications and displayed prices; they do not make the watches equivalent in every respect.

Which one should you choose?
- Pick the Black Bay Pro if you want the closest match to the Explorer II’s fixed 24-hour bezel and independently jumping local-hour hand, in a 39 mm case.
- Pick the Black Bay GMT if you specifically want a bidirectional rotating 24-hour bezel and prefer a 41 mm case.
- Stay with the Explorer II if its particular 42 mm design and Rolex reference are what you want; the lower displayed TUDOR prices do not make either watch the same product.

A T3 roundup published January 31, 2026, also names the Timex Q GMT, Seiko 5 Sports Field Deploy, Christopher Ward C63 Sealander GMT, Breitling Chronomat Automatic GMT and Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Spring Drive GMT.
