In Seiko’s representative specifications, the 39 mm SPB371 is 2 mm wider and 2.5 mm longer from lug to lug than the 37 mm SPB283. Their movement reserves are close, and both examples share a 19 mm lug width and 10 bar water resistance.
37 mm vs. 39 mm King Seiko specifications
This comparison uses the SPB283 as the 37 mm example and the SPB371 as the 39 mm example. Dimensions and movement figures below are Seiko’s specifications for those references, not universal specifications for every King Seiko model.

Specifications: Seiko SPB283 and Seiko SPB371.
Which size is likely to suit your wrist?
Choose 37 mm if a shorter footprint is the priority
The SPB283’s 43.6 mm lug-to-lug measurement is 2.5 mm shorter than the SPB371’s 46.1 mm. Lug-to-lug length helps indicate how much of the watch spans the wrist, so it is useful alongside diameter when comparing case footprint.
Choose 39 mm if you prefer a larger dial
Seiko describes the 39 mm line as having larger dials and bolder indexes with an additional facet. The cited SPB371 is also 0.2 mm thinner than the SPB283 in Seiko’s specifications. Seiko does not provide wrist-size guidance or comparative wear testing for these references, so the measurements cannot guarantee fit on a particular wrist.

How do the designs differ?
In its 2023 announcement, Seiko described the 39 mm models as having wider lugs, brushed upper lug surfaces, polished angular sides, and a bezel with a brushed top and polished side. The announcement identified white, dark blue, and green dials for that 39 mm series. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions; they do not establish measured differences in legibility.
The King Seiko revival began with 37 mm cases in 2022. Seiko’s US launch announcement named SPB279, SPB281, SPB283, SPB285, and SPB287, all using caliber 6R31. In 2023, Seiko introduced the 39 mm SPB369, SPB371, and SPB373 series with caliber 6R55. Dial colors and availability depend on the specific reference and market.

Are the movements meaningfully different?
The SPB283’s 6R31 has an approximately 70-hour stated reserve; the SPB371’s 6R55 is specified at approximately 72 hours. Both cited product pages list the same accuracy range, +25 to -15 seconds per day, 24 jewels, and a stop-seconds function. The two-hour reserve difference alone does not establish that one watch is materially more accurate or better for everyday use.
Do the bracelets and straps interchange?
Both representative watches have a 19 mm lug width. Seiko’s 2023 announcement says the seven-link bracelet on the 39 mm models is interchangeable with the bracelet on the 37 mm King Seiko watches. For an alternative strap, check the exact watch and strap’s end shape, thickness, and fit rather than relying only on the 19 mm width.

Water resistance and everyday use
Seiko rates both cited examples to 10 bar and lists screw case backs. These specifications do not, by themselves, establish suitability for a particular water sport; consult Seiko’s guidance for the activity and the exact reference.
