How are stiletto nails different from almond nails?
Both shapes taper toward the tip, but a stiletto has a sharper, more distinct point; an almond shape ends in a softer, rounded tip. If you like the elongated look but want less of a razor-sharp finish, ask for a softened point. The exact shape depends on the length and how the sides and tip are filed or built.
Can you file natural nails into a stiletto shape?
It depends on your nail length. Huber-Millet suggests extensions or letting natural nails grow to at least 1/8 inch before starting if they are short. NewBeauty quotes celebrity nail artist and Lost Angels co-founder Brittney Boyce advising DIY filers to slim the sides and begin forming the point around the halfway point of the nail. She also recommends switching sides as you file so one side is not over-filed.

For a shaped extension rather than a natural-nail filing approach, OPI lists a medium stiletto version of its GELevate Soft Gel Tips. What should you know about nail-product safety?
In the United States, the FDA advises users to read product labels, follow warnings and use good ventilation. Some nail products can cause infections or allergic reactions; the agency specifically advises avoiding skin contact with methacrylate monomers because they can cause sensitization. Salon use does not remove the need to follow product directions. State and local authorities regulate salon operations and nail technician licensing.
