For the current Galaxy Watch9, choose 40 mm if you want the smaller case; choose 44 mm if you want a larger display and higher listed battery capacity. Samsung’s published figures show a 34 mm display and typical 390 mAh battery for the 40 mm model, compared with a 37.3 mm display and typical 445 mAh battery for the 44 mm model. Those battery capacities do not guarantee a specific difference in real-world runtime.
The answer changes by generation. This comparison focuses on Galaxy Watch9, with older Watch7 and Watch8 figures included separately so their specifications are not confused.
40mm vs. 44mm Samsung Watch: Galaxy Watch9 specifications
Samsung’s 2026 Canadian specifications show that the 44 mm Galaxy Watch9 has both the larger display and the greater typical battery capacity. The nominal case size is not the display measurement: a 40 mm case does not have a 40 mm screen.

Samsung’s figures are product specifications, not a same-condition runtime comparison. They establish that the 44 mm model has more listed battery capacity, but not how many extra hours it will last in your use. Samsung Canada’s Galaxy Watch9 specifications provide the model-specific figures.

Which size is right for you?
Choose 40 mm if you prefer a smaller case
The 40 mm version is the smaller-case option and may suit someone who wants a less prominent watch on the wrist. That is a preference, not a universal fit rule: Samsung’s reviewed information does not establish a wrist-circumference cutoff, and individual wrists and comfort preferences vary.
Choose 44 mm if you value a larger display
The 44 mm model has a 37.3 mm display, compared with 34 mm on the 40 mm Galaxy Watch9. If more screen area is your priority, the 44 mm is the straightforward choice. It also has higher listed battery capacity, though that alone does not predict your watch’s runtime.

Check generation and connectivity before buying
“40 mm vs. 44 mm Samsung Watch” is not a complete specification comparison until you identify the generation. Samsung lists different battery and display figures across Watch7, Watch8, and Watch9. Also decide whether you need Bluetooth or LTE. Samsung offers connectivity variants, and the exact options depend on the market and listing. Confirm the generation, size, connectivity, and local availability on the specific product page before ordering; do not assume that a listing for one configuration describes every model.
Practical fit and band considerations
Dimensions and weight can help you judge how large a watch may look and feel, but compare the exact generation and market: Samsung’s comparison materials cover multiple models. If possible, try the case on your wrist or compare its listed dimensions with a watch you already find comfortable. No universal wrist-size threshold is established by the cited Samsung material.
