OMEGA says NASA declared the watch “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions”; the date made March 1, 2025 the 60th anniversary. The model OMEGA identifies as submitted was the 1964 Speedmaster reference ST105.003—not every Speedmaster made since.
What NASA qualified in 1965
OMEGA’s April 29, 2025 anniversary account gives the date as March 1, 1965, and quotes the qualification wording as “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions.” That is the manufacturer’s account of NASA’s declaration; the sources cited here do not include a contemporaneous NASA certificate or complete test report. OMEGA’s anniversary account
For readers asking what watch NASA qualified for all manned space missions in 1965: it was the Omega Speedmaster. OMEGA’s chronology identifies the watch submitted in the process as reference ST105.003, from 1964. That specific reference is the historically relevant model; the broad wording of the qualification should not be taken to mean every later Speedmaster reference was tested in 1965. How the qualification led into NASA missions
OMEGA says the Speedmaster was one of four watch brands invited to submit watches. This describes the procurement context as the manufacturer presents it; it is not independently confirmed here by NASA procurement records. OMEGA’s chronology

The National Air and Space Museum provides a separate record of the watch’s subsequent spaceflight role. It says NASA certified the Speedmaster as the chronograph for the Gemini program, and records later NASA purchases for Apollo and Skylab/ASTP. Its collection also includes mission-associated NASA-issued examples, including a Speedmaster associated with Wally Schirra’s Gemini 6 mission and a chronograph associated with Apollo 9. What the 60th anniversary means—and what it does not
The anniversary is anchored to the date OMEGA gives for qualification: March 1, 1965. Sixty years later was March 1, 2025. The anniversary marks that historical milestone; it does not mean NASA qualified a new watch in 2025 or that modern Speedmaster models were part of the 1965 evaluation.

Likewise, “Flight Qualified for all Manned Space Missions” is the qualification language OMEGA reproduces in its historical account. The cited museum records support later NASA use, but the available sources do not establish the full test protocol, individual test conditions, or a present-day NASA endorsement of every Speedmaster model.

ST105.003 identifies the Speedmaster OMEGA says it submitted in 1964. A current Speedmaster Moonwatch may carry forward the line’s design heritage, but it is a modern model, not the exact ST105.003 watch associated with the 1965 qualification. Keeping those identities distinct preserves the historical claim without extending it beyond the evidence.
