“Affordable” has no universal price limit, so this guide uses a practical UK ceiling of £500, based on dated UK price examples for some of the watches below—not a promise that they currently cost less than £500. It focuses on design character and the wearing experience, not a definitive ranking: the available evidence supports seven named watches, but not eleven fully verified models. Check the exact reference, local availability and current price before buying.
How to choose an affordable watch that suits you
Start with the kind of watch you want to wear, then consider how it keeps time. Digital watches put the display and functions first; analog quartz watches use a battery, while light-powered quartz watches can reduce routine battery changes. Automatic watches are powered by movement from the wearer rather than a battery. These are different ownership experiences, not a simple ladder of quality.
- For a retro look: choose a compact digital design or a metal-bracelet digital watch.
- For a more rugged sports look: consider a G-Shock, but verify the regional variant and its features.
- For analog styling: decide whether you prefer a dive-inspired bezel, a dressier dial, or an integrated bracelet.
- For water use: check the water-resistance rating and intended use for the exact reference. A dive-style appearance alone does not establish dive capability.
The prices below are not a like-for-like comparison: they come from different UK editorial snapshots, catalog pages and markets. Where a price is not established, it is marked accordingly rather than estimated.
Seven affordable watches with distinct styles
1. Casio F-91W — a digital classic
The F-91W is the straightforward pick for an inexpensive, unmistakably retro digital look. Casio says the F-91 series was originally released in 1989. T3 described the F-91W as a cult classic and showed an Amazon UK price of £15.49 in a June 2026 deal article. That is a historical price snapshot, not a current quote; check the listing and exact model before purchase.

2. Casio A168 — retro digital with a metal-bracelet look
The A168 keeps the digital, vintage-inspired character but gives it a more metallic, dressed-up appearance. T3 showed an Amazon UK price under £30 in June 2026. That dated deal should not be treated as today’s price. Also, do not transfer specifications from the related A158W to the A168: Casio’s A158W page describes a stainless-steel band, adjustable clasp and chrome-plated bezel, but those details are not evidence of the A168’s exact construction.
3. Casio Duro MDV106-1A — dive-inspired, with a stated 200-metre rating
The Duro MDV106-1A offers the visual cues of a dive watch. For this exact reference, Casio specifies 200-metre water resistance, a screw-lock back and crown, and mineral glass, and says it is suitable for swimming, snorkeling and everyday wear. Those manufacturer claims are specific to this model; confirm the reference and instructions for the particular watch you are considering. A price was not established in the available sources.

4. Casio G-Shock GW-M5610U-1ER — a familiar digital shape with solar power
This model pairs a classic G-Shock digital shape with solar power and Multi Band 6 connectivity, according to T3’s February 2026 coverage. T3 listed it at £100 at Argos at publication. That is a dated UK retailer snapshot, not a guaranteed current price. Check that the GW-M5610U-1ER is the variant sold in your market and that its feature set matches the listing.
5. Citizen Tsuyosa — an automatic with an integrated-bracelet style
The Tsuyosa is a good direction to explore if you want an analog automatic with a sleek dial and an integrated-bracelet appearance. T3 reported a £209 Beaverbrooks offer against a previous £299 price in its February 2026 article. Both figures belong to that UK editorial snapshot; the offer may no longer be available, and the exact model and current price should be checked.

6. Seiko Presage Cocktail Time — a dressier dial
Presage Cocktail Time is the dressier choice in this group, with dial design as a defining feature of the range. T3 highlighted a model at £429 at Chisholm Hunter in February 2026. That is a dated UK retailer listing, and the cited coverage does not identify the exact reference here. Confirm the reference and current price rather than assuming every Cocktail Time model costs the same.
7. Seiko 5 Sports — sporty automatic options
Seiko 5 Sports is a family rather than one single model. Seiko’s US SKX-series page describes the range as inspired by the SKX series and displayed catalog prices from $315 to $500. Those are US catalog figures captured on that page, not UK prices or a current quote for every Seiko 5 Sports variant. Choose by exact reference and check that model’s movement, dimensions, water resistance and price before comparing it with the watches above.

What about Citizen Eco-Drive?
Eco-Drive is Citizen’s light-powered technology, not one specific watch model. Citizen says a fully powered Eco-Drive watch can run for up to six months in complete darkness. That is a manufacturer claim about the technology; the exact charging and operating details depend on the watch. If avoiding routine battery changes appeals to you, compare individual Eco-Drive models by reference rather than treating the technology name as a complete specification.

The examples here mix UK retailer offers, a UK deal-page price, and US catalog prices. They cannot be ranked as if they were simultaneous prices in one market. Citizen’s Japanese catalog page and US Modern collection page also cover different collections and currencies, so their figures are not direct comparisons.
