The Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon is a hand-wound watch built around four tourbillons linked by a spherical differential. The maker says the differential transmits their average timing rate to improve chronometric performance, particularly in stable positions. That is the design rationale—not a published independent accuracy test. Greubel Forsey lists the base model as an 88-piece production run from 2008 to 2021.
How the four-tourbillon mechanism works
Greubel Forsey describes four tourbillons that contribute independently to the movement’s regulation. A spherical differential connects them and transmits their average timing rate. The brand presents this averaging as a way to improve the chronometric performance of the regulating organs, especially in stable positions.
The mechanism is the watch’s defining technical idea, but it should not be confused with a measured accuracy result. The official materials describe the intended benefit; they do not provide comparative test results or a quantified real-world accuracy figure.
What the base model displays
The dial combines conventional timekeeping with indications that expose the movement’s operation. Its stated functions are hours and minutes, small seconds, a power-reserve indication, and an indication of the outer tourbillon’s four-minute rotation. The small-seconds and power-reserve displays are semi-circular.

| Parts count | 531 parts on the model page; the technical sheet instead states 534 movement parts. The sources do not reconcile the difference. |
The technical sheet provides additional movement details: hand-wound construction, 36.40 mm movement diameter, 9.70 mm movement thickness, 63 jewels, and a 28-part spherical differential. It also lists 261 parts for the four tourbillon cages, with a combined cage weight of 2.26 g. These figures are from that sheet and should be read within its stated movement scope.

Production history and the GMT distinction
Greubel Forsey’s history dates the Quadruple Tourbillon’s introduction to 2008. The base model’s listed production period ended in 2021, with 88 pieces made according to the official model page.
The similarly named GMT Quadruple Tourbillon is a separate watch, not another configuration of the base model. Its official page lists 18 pieces from 2019 to 2022 and a 46.5 mm case. It adds a GMT mechanism, terrestrial globe and universal time display. The two models share a stated 50-hour power reserve, but the GMT page also describes a separate 72-hour chronometric power-reserve display; that indication should not be mistaken for the base model’s specification.

- This tourbillon crafted by Swiss chief designer Etienne Ruffieux with modern architectural aesthetics, features a lightweight, comfortable, free-sprung balance flying tourbillon. It houses an independently developed architectural tourbillon movement adorned with oversized ruby bearings. The design aesthetic is expressed through the interplay of light and shadow created by its extreme skeletonization. The watch has been honored with the IAI Global Design Award for its outstanding original design.
- Independently developed CAL9001 free-sprung balance flying tourbillon movement, manual winding, 28,880 vibrations per hour, 25 ruby bearings. Features high-end finishing including satin brushing and beveled edges, engraved brand logo with gold-stamped. Dual mainspring series technology delivers 80-hour power reserve (twice that of standard tourbillon movements). This technology ensures more uniform and gradual mainspring release, resulting in enhanced timekeeping precision and stability.
- The CAL9001 tourbillon movement features the exclusive free-sprung micro-adjustment technology typically reserved for luxury timepieces. This free-sprung system eliminates the need for a balance spring regulator, thereby overcoming the timing inaccuracies caused by regulator displacement in conventional mechanical movements. This ensures the watch delivers enhanced precision and stability in timekeeping.
- This tourbillon measures 40mm in diameter and just 9.7mm in thickness, weighing a mere 67 grams. Its meticulously engineered structure and radically skeletonized tourbillon movement eliminate all superfluous metal components, allowing the mechanical artistry of the free-sprung flying tourbillon to shine in its purest form. It is an exquisite, high-end tourbillon watch that is both ultra-thin and supremely comfortable.
- The watch is water-resistant to 50 meters, featuring a double-sided sapphire crystal and an Italian leather strap with hand-stitched detailing for comfortable and durable wear. We offer a three-year worldwide warranty.

What the published information establishes
The Quadruple Tourbillon is a highly specific expression of Greubel Forsey’s approach: four independently contributing tourbillons are linked through a spherical differential, and the visible architecture makes that mechanism central to the watch’s appearance. The official production record and specification figures describe the base model, while the GMT watch has its own complication set and edition details. Neither the maker’s stated rationale nor the technical specifications establish a comparative accuracy advantage in measured use.
