The Ressence Type 9 pares its face back to hours and minutes, but the display is anything but conventional: the indications travel across a convex dial on Ressence’s orbiting-disc mechanism. That contrast—little information, presented through distinctive motion—is the source of the watch’s visual restraint.
How does the Ressence Type 9 tell time?
The Type 9 shows only hours and minutes. Its fixed bezel carries the minute scale, while the indications move across the watch’s convex dial. Instead of reading fixed hands against a flat face, you follow a changing display arranged over a curved surface. Ressence lists a 39 mm diameter and a weight of 39 g for the collection. Ressence’s TYPE 9 collection page also specifies that winding and setting are done through the caseback.
What makes the display different?
Ressence calls its display architecture the Ressence Orbital Convex System, or ROCS. The company describes it as a mechanical module of convex discs with eccentric satellites that rotate to combine separate information layers into an animated, single-surface display. In Ressence’s words, “The ROCS blends the different information layers – hands on top of a fixed dial – into an animated mono-surfaced display.” The brand says each TYPE uses a distinct ROCS variation. The Type 9’s specific module is ROCS 9, driven by the minute axle of a customized, reinforced 2892/2 base calibre. That distinction matters when calling the watch minimal. The face limits the amount of information shown; the mechanism behind its moving display is not simple. Ressence’s phrase “Minimalism at heart” is the company’s own characterization, rather than an independent assessment.

At 1 atm, the stated protection is splash resistance, not a basis for treating the watch as suitable for swimming. The 20/18 mm measurement describes the strap width; check attachment and buckle compatibility before buying a replacement.

How much does the Ressence Type 9 cost?
On the official collection page when retrieved, standard Grey and Aqua variants were listed at €16,700, while JWB and JWE limited editions were listed at €26,200. All four showed “Sold Out” on that page at the time. These are time-sensitive listings, so confirm price and availability with Ressence or an authorized seller. The collection page lists the variants and prices; the JWB product page lists its €26,200 price including VAT.

Who is the Type 9 for?
The Type 9 is for someone drawn to a sparse time display but not necessarily to traditional watch hands. Its hours-and-minutes-only face keeps the information limited, while the orbiting convex display gives the watch a strong visual identity. That is also the key preference to weigh: if you want a conventional fixed-hand layout, the Type 9’s moving indications are a real difference, not merely a styling detail.
Before choosing a variant, consider whether you want only hours and minutes, whether a caseback winding and setting arrangement suits your habits, and whether splash resistance is sufficient for how you wear a watch. Compare the exact variant’s dimensions, weight, movement, strap, warranty, price and availability rather than assuming every Type 9 listing shares the JWB’s full specification set.
