The 2019 A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon reference 740.056FE pairs a white-gold case with a solid pink-gold dial and was limited to 100 pieces. Its manually wound L952.2 movement brings together a flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar and a tourbillon with stop-seconds. The tourbillon is visible through the sapphire caseback, not from the dial side.
Which Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon is this?
“Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon” names more than one configuration. This review concerns the white-gold 740.056FE, the second edition after the platinum, black-dial original introduced in 2016. Lange launched the 740.056 at SIHH in 2019 as a 100-piece edition. The manufacturer describes it as boutique-exclusive; its product page lists the price as upon request, not as a public retail figure. A. Lange & Söhne’s current product page identifies the reference and its specifications.
The brand calls the dial solid 18-carat pink gold. “Salmon” is a description used by Phillips, not the manufacturer’s material name. The difference matters when comparing listings: confirm the exact reference and dial rather than relying on a color label alone.
What the L952.2 does
The manually wound L952.2 contains 729 parts, runs at 18,000 semi-oscillations per hour (2.5 Hz), and has a stated power reserve of 50 hours. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent timing-test results. The calibre combines three major complications, with calendar indications sharing space with chronograph information.
#1 Best Overall
- Powered by light energy, with no battery change required, this model has a 6-month power reserve once fully charged
- Case Diameter: 44.0mm
- The sunray finish gray dial features chronograph and alarm subdials and perpetual calendar functions such as leap year, month, day, and date indicators
- The angular two-tone stainless steel case is paired with an integrated bracelet and includes a sapphire crystal and cabochon crown
- Water-resistant to 10 bar, 100 meters (330 feet)
Flyback chronograph
The chronograph uses a column wheel and a precisely jumping minute counter. Its flyback function lets the chronograph be reset and restarted with one action, rather than requiring separate stop, reset and restart operations. Lange describes the minute counter as jumping, so elapsed minutes are indicated discretely rather than by a continuously advancing hand.
Perpetual calendar
The calendar displays the date in Lange’s outsize-date aperture, alongside weekday, month, leap-year information and a moon phase. Lange describes the calendar displays as switching instantaneously. The 2019 release says three recessed correctors separately adjust the moon phase, day and month, while a universal button at 10 o’clock advances the calendar displays collectively. Consult the watch’s instructions before setting it, particularly if its calendar has stopped or is being adjusted near a date change.

- Sapphire Crystal

Lange stated that the moon-phase indication is accurate for 122.6 years. That is the manufacturer’s stated interval, not a separately verified measurement. The calendar’s complexity is useful rather than merely decorative: it provides a complete calendar display, but makes correct setting more involved than on a simple date watch.
Tourbillon with stop-seconds
The one-minute tourbillon sits on the movement side and is seen through the sapphire display back. It is not an aperture on the pink-gold dial. Lange’s patented stop-seconds mechanism halts the balance when the crown is pulled, allowing the watch to be set to the second. Because the balance runs at five beats per second, the brand says stopped times can be indicated in one-fifth-second increments.

How the dial organizes its information
Lange describes the dial layout as triangular: the outsize date sits above two subsidiary registers. The left register combines running seconds, weekday and day/night indication; the right combines chronograph minutes, month and leap-year indication. A power-reserve indicator appears near the end of the tachymeter scale.
This arrangement groups related information rather than giving every function a separate dial or window. It also means the subsidiary registers carry several indications apiece. The layout is a clear design proposition; how quickly a particular wearer reads it depends on viewing conditions and familiarity, so a personal legibility verdict requires handling the watch.

Case, dimensions and wearing impressions
The official dimensions are 41.5 mm in diameter and 14.6 mm thick. The case is 18-carat white gold, with a sapphire display back, 20 mm lug spacing and 3-bar water resistance. The strap is dark-brown alligator leather with a white-gold deployant buckle. Lange says its alligator straps comply with CITES and identifies farmed Alligator mississippiensis, Appendix II.
Phillips’s editorial describes the pink-gold dial as warm and light-reactive, with stepped subsidiary dials; it also characterizes the watch as heavy and prominent beneath a cuff. Those are Phillips’s observations, not firsthand impressions from this review. The stepped case is described there as visually lightening the profile, while the deployant buckle helps balance the watch’s mass. The manufacturer lists the case at 41.5 mm; Phillips gives 41.9 mm, so the official measurement is used here.

At 14.6 mm thick, this is not a low-profile dress watch on paper. Whether it clears a particular cuff comfortably, or feels balanced on a specific wrist, cannot be settled from specifications alone.

| Edition | Case and dial | What distinguishes it |
|---|---|---|
| 2016 original | Platinum case, black dial | The first Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon configuration. |
| 2019 reference 740.056FE | White-gold case, solid pink-gold dial | Second edition, limited to 100 pieces; the focus of this review. |
| 2024 Honeygold “Lumen” | Honeygold case with luminous dial treatment | A related later variant using calibre L952.4, not the 740.056’s L952.2. |
The 2024 Lumen is worth distinguishing because its name belongs to the same model family, but its alloy, dial treatment and movement differ. Do not transfer its specifications to the 740.056. In the brand’s 2024 release, Director of Product Development Anthony de Haas described the family’s combination as “three classic complications – a column-wheel chronograph with a precisely jumping minute counter, perpetual calendar with instantaneously switching displays and a tourbillon with a stop-seconds mechanism, – and useful supplementary functions.”
Price and buying considerations
Lange’s product page gives no public price and says price upon request. It also identifies the 100-piece 740.056FE as boutique-exclusive. That does not establish current boutique stock or current pre-owned availability.
Phillips documented a sold pre-owned example and its editorial page displayed £199,500. That is historical listing context, not a current offer, transaction benchmark or official retail price. A listing should be assessed on its own date, condition and completeness.

Quick Recap
- Confirm the reference and variant: white gold with pink-gold dial, rather than the platinum original or 2024 Honeygold Lumen.
- Check condition and service history, and verify whether the box and certificate are included.
- Ask the seller to substantiate authenticity, provenance, and the state of the calendar and chronograph functions.
- Verify the current asking price, availability and seller directly; no current marketplace inventory or transaction value is established here.
