Unveiled on April 9, 2024, as a 50-piece limited edition, it marks 25 years since the first DATOGRAPH. Its semi-transparent sapphire-crystal dial uses luminous displays to make the complications visible in darkness.
What is the Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon Honeygold Lumen?
It is a special Lumen version of the DATOGRAPH PERPETUAL TOURBILLON, a model first introduced in 2016. A. Lange & Söhne presented the new edition at Watches and Wonders 2024 and limited production to 50 watches. The manufacturer describes it as the sixth Lumen model and the second Lumen model in HONEYGOLD, after the ZEITWERK HONEYGOLD “Lumen” of 2021. The reference is 740.055FE.
The proposition is unusual even within a highly complicated watch: three major mechanisms share the dial with a luminous treatment. The result is not a separate night-time display, but a translucent dial that lets the luminous components beneath and on it remain visible. A. Lange & Söhne’s 2024 announcement gives the launch details and manufacturer specifications.
What complications and displays does it have?
Flyback chronograph
The column-wheel chronograph has a flyback function: one push stops, resets and restarts the chronograph, rather than requiring separate presses for each action. A jumping minute counter advances when the chronograph seconds hand completes 60 seconds. The tachymeter scale can be used to calculate average speed over a measured distance.

Perpetual calendar and moon phase
The perpetual calendar follows the Gregorian calendar, accounting for differing month lengths and leap years. Its displays switch instantaneously. The layout includes the weekday and day/night indication on the left, and the month and leap-year indication alongside the minute counter on the right. The moon-phase display sits at 6 o’clock. A. Lange & Söhne states that the moon-phase indication deviates from the true lunation by one day after 122.6 years.
One-minute tourbillon with stop-seconds
The tourbillon completes one rotation per minute. Its stop-seconds mechanism halts the tourbillon when the crown is pulled, allowing the wearer to set the watch to one-second accuracy, according to the manufacturer. A tourbillon is a mechanical complication; its presence alone does not establish superior real-world accuracy.

Oversized date
The oversized date is positioned at 12 o’clock. Its discs are luminous, so the date remains legible in darkness, including after its midnight change. The remaining indications are arranged across two subsidiary dials and the moon-phase display.
How does the Lumen dial glow?
The dial is made from semi-transparent sapphire crystal, with luminous coating used on the displays. In darkness, the luminous elements glow while the translucent construction exposes the watch’s layered indications. The manufacturer specifically highlights the luminous date discs as a way to preserve legibility after the date changes at midnight; it does not publish a quantified glow duration or brightness figure in its announcement.
