The newest Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar is the 2026 Lumen, reference 720.035FE: a platinum, 50-piece edition with a translucent luminous dial and the new self-winding L225.1 calibre. It is not the watch described in the best documented in-person hands-on account, which covers the earlier Handwerkskunst edition. The distinction matters: the Lumen’s specifications and price reporting should not be confused with those of its predecessors.
What makes the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar distinctive?
It combines a tourbillon with a perpetual calendar while retaining the Lange 1’s deliberately off-centre dial layout. The calendar solution is part of the design rather than an afterthought: the month is shown on a peripheral ring around the dial, leaving the familiar asymmetric arrangement intact. A. Lange & Söhne says the layout required a new calendar mechanism. A sampler lever reads contours on the ring, while mechanical energy accumulators allow the calendar indications to switch together. A. Lange & Söhne’s model page describes the mechanism and its operation.
The manufacturer says of the 2026 Lumen: “All calendar indications switch instantaneously to produce unambiguous readings at all times.” That is the brand’s description of the calendar’s changeover, not an independent performance assessment.
What is different about the 2026 Lumen?
Introduced at Watches and Wonders 2026, the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Lumen (ref. 720.035FE) is a limited platinum edition. Its semi-transparent dial admits ultraviolet light to charge the luminous material, while also revealing parts of the movement and calendar mechanism. The tourbillon is not displayed on the dial side; it can be seen through the sapphire caseback.

These specifications are from A. Lange & Söhne’s 2026 Lumen announcement. The L225.1 calibre belongs to this edition; it should not be conflated with the L082.1 movement used in the earlier model.
What does the hands-on coverage actually cover?
Hodinkee’s December 2013 in-person account concerns the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar Handwerkskunst, not the 2026 Lumen. Benjamin Clymer reported seeing that watch at the brand’s Palm Beach boutique. His article describes a white-gold dial decorated with tremblage and relief engraving, as well as engraved movement components. He called the dial “completely hand decorated, using a rare combination of tremblage and relief engraving.” That observation applies to the Handwerkskunst edition, not every reference in the line.

For that earlier configuration, the article identifies calibre L082.1 and reports 624 components and a 50-hour power reserve. Those figures are not Lumen specifications. The official page for the earlier model also describes a tourbillon visible through the sapphire caseback and a patented stop-seconds mechanism that lets the wearer halt the tourbillon for precise setting. Hodinkee’s April 14, 2026 introduction of the Lumen put its price “in the range of €550,000.” That is an approximate third-party report, not a confirmed current retail price or a universal quote.
