The AERA M-1 Dune is a 39mm manual-winding field-style watch distinguished by its dusty-pink dial, not by a radical departure from the M-1’s instrument-like layout. Its proportions, dished dial and subdued grey strap give the color room to stand out without making the watch feel overtly showy. At £1,600 on AERA’s product page, it is a considered purchase: the key questions are whether the 47.6mm lug-to-lug suits your wrist, whether you want a manual-winding routine, and whether the Dune’s particular take on pink is your kind of understated.
What is the AERA M-1 Dune?
The Dune is a limited-edition version of AERA’s M-1 field-watch design. Its defining change is the dusty-pink dial; the core layout remains practical and easy to read, with luminous numerals, a railroad-style minute track and a small-seconds display. AERA lists the edition at 300 pieces.
AERA says the dial color takes inspiration from pink camouflage used on SAS desert Land Rovers in the late 1960s. That is the maker’s stated design story; the launch material repeating it is brand-originated copy, not independent confirmation of the vehicles’ history.
How does it look, and is the pink really understated?
The Dune’s visual balance comes from contrast: the dial is unusual, while the rest of the watch stays close to familiar field-watch cues. AERA describes a dished, single-piece dial beneath a domed sapphire crystal, with hand-applied Globolight numerals. The small-seconds subdial and minute track add detail without crowding the face.

The case is softly rounded, with curved lugs that continue the M-1’s pebble-like form. Paired with the grey Italian suede strap and steel hardware, the pink reads as a deliberate accent rather than an all-over statement. “Understated” is a matter of taste, of course: the dial is distinctive, and it will attract more attention than a conventional black or white field-watch face.
How does the M-1 Dune wear?
Diameter alone understates the fit question. The case is 39mm across, but its 47.6mm lug-to-lug span is the more useful measurement to compare with a watch you already find comfortable. The lugs curve down, which can help the watch follow the wrist; however, that reach may overhang smaller wrists.

Oracle of Time’s reviewer found the curved lugs comfortable on their wrist and said the watch felt somewhat smaller than its dimensions might suggest. That is one person’s experience, not a guarantee of fit. The listed thickness is 13.14mm, and AERA gives the weight as 65.2g without the strap.
The 20mm lug width is a useful reference when considering strap dimensions, but it does not establish that generic straps will fit the Dune’s model-specific quick-release hardware correctly. AERA lists a second strap choice and a quick-release mechanism.

These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements or performance tests. AERA says taxes and duties are included for certain listed destinations, so the final terms depend on the buyer’s market.
What the manual movement means in daily use
The Sellita SW216-1 Elabore is hand-wound: there is no automatic rotor winding the watch as you move. You wind it yourself, and AERA lists a 42-hour reserve after a full wind. In practical terms, that is less than two days, so an owner who rotates between watches should expect to wind the Dune again after leaving it unworn for a while.

AERA lists 23 jewels, a 4Hz frequency and a movement tolerance of +7 to +15 seconds per day. Those are the manufacturer’s stated figures, not results from an independent timing test of a particular watch.

The grey suede strap suits the Dune’s muted palette, but suede will show wear differently from a smooth leather or metal bracelet. Oracle of Time described the strap on its campaign-used review sample as roughened and worn. The reviewer also noted that the sample had seen heavy use, so that observation does not establish typical durability or a general quality problem.

AERA lists a second strap choice and quick-release hardware. The available sources do not confirm compatibility with generic 20mm straps, so check with AERA before assuming another strap will attach and sit properly.
Water resistance, warranty and returns
AERA lists water resistance at 10ATM/100m. That is the published rating; the available product information does not establish a specific activity rating or independent in-use testing, so it should not be turned into a promise about diving or any particular water activity.
AERA promotes a three-year warranty, while its detailed terms describe a standard two-year limited warranty with an additional year available by registering within 30 days. The product page also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee and complimentary shipping and returns, subject to its terms. Check the current warranty, registration requirements, return conditions and destination-specific terms before ordering.
Is the AERA M-1 Dune worth £1,600?
The Dune makes the clearest case for itself if you want a modern field-watch layout with a less conventional dial and appreciate the hands-on ritual of a manual movement. Its compact-sounding 39mm diameter is paired with a longer 47.6mm span, so wrist fit deserves a real check rather than a decision based on diameter alone.

At the listed £1,600 price, the choice is as much about design preference as specification. The pink dial, curved case and brand’s limited-edition positioning are central to the appeal; if you want a conventional field watch, automatic winding, a longer reserve or a bracelet, the Dune’s particular strengths may not matter enough to justify its price. Check AERA’s live listing for current price, stock and terms, since those can change.
