Which AirPods models use firmware 6F21?
Apple’s firmware table lists these three models at 6F21. Other AirPods models have different firmware versions, so compare the version for your exact model rather than expecting every AirPods product to use 6F21.

Apple’s current table assigns other versions to AirPods (1st generation), AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4, AirPods 5, and AirPods Max. Seeing a version other than 6F21 on one of those models does not by itself mean an update is missing. Firmware assignments can change, so check Apple’s current model-by-model table when verifying a device.

How to check your AirPods firmware version
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings, then tap Bluetooth.
- Tap the Info button next to your AirPods.
- Find the number beside Firmware Version in the About section.
On a Mac
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Select Bluetooth, then click the Info button next to your AirPods.
- Read the firmware version in the device information.
How to install AirPods firmware 6F21
Apple delivers AirPods firmware automatically. To give the update a chance to install, follow Apple’s procedure:
- Update the iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the latest available iOS, iPadOS, or macOS, and make sure Bluetooth is on.
- Connect the AirPods to that device over Bluetooth and connect the device to Wi-Fi.
- Connect the AirPods charging case to power.
- Put the AirPods in the case and close the lid. Keep the case closed and within Bluetooth range of the Apple device.
- Wait at least 30 minutes, as Apple instructs.
- Open the case to reconnect the AirPods, then check the firmware version again.
There is no documented user-initiated firmware download or install button. AirPods Max uses a different cable-powered update procedure and is not listed at 6F21.

What if the AirPods still show an older version?
- Confirm the model. Apple lists 6F21 for AirPods Pro (1st generation), AirPods (3rd generation), and AirPods (2nd generation).
- Check the connection. Make sure Bluetooth is on, the AirPods are connected, and the Apple device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Repeat the update procedure. Connect the case to power, put the AirPods inside, close the lid, and leave the case within Bluetooth range for at least 30 minutes.
- Reset the AirPods and try again. Apple recommends resetting them if the firmware does not update.
- Arrange service if needed. If you do not have an Apple device nearby, Apple suggests arranging an appointment at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
Avoid firmware files or third-party utilities that claim to force-install 6F21; Apple documents automatic delivery, not sideloading.
Can you update AirPods without an iPhone, iPad, or Mac?
Apple’s documented update procedure uses an iPhone, iPad, or Mac as the connected host. If you do not have an Apple device nearby and need help updating, Apple suggests arranging an appointment at an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Contact the provider before traveling.

Is 6F21 the newest AirPods firmware?
