Alpina says its design is inspired by the hand-wound Caliber 490, which it dates to 1938; the modern watch uses the automatic AL-530. The anniversary marks the brand’s milestone, not 140 years of this particular model.
What is the Alpina Heritage Carrée 140 Years?
It is a heritage-styled rectangular watch with a vintage-inspired dial, Arabic numerals and a small-seconds display. Alpina’s US product description calls the design “inspired by the authentic hand-wound Caliber 490 dated from 1938.” That is the manufacturer’s stated inspiration and provenance; the official product material does not establish the caliber’s history through archival records.
The distinction between the historic reference and the current watch matters: Alpina describes Caliber 490 as hand-wound, while the anniversary Carrée is listed with the automatic AL-530. Alpina says its 140th anniversary in 2023 brought a dedicated heritage collection and additional mechanical movements.
What are the two official dial variants?
Alpina’s US listings show at least two versions. Use the reference number when checking a listing, price or strap fit.

| AL-530BA3C6 | Black dial with beige hands and numerals | Leather strap; 22 mm lug width listed | $1,895 on Alpina’s US product page |
The official descriptions emphasize hours, minutes and small seconds. The product pages do not establish that one dial version wears better than the other.
What movement is inside the Alpina Carrée Automatic 140 Years?
The watch is listed with Alpina caliber AL-530, an automatic movement. Alpina’s French product page identifies it as FC-530, based on SW261, with 31 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 alternations per hour. That regional page lists a 38-hour power reserve. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

- The Alpiner Heritage Carrée Automatic 140 Years is a landmark style featuring the authentic hand-wound Caliber 490 dated from 1938, restored and presented in a silver case with a diameter of 32.5 x 39mm.
- With a black dial, the hands beige, the Arabic numerals hollowed out in a font which is more geometric, in line with the taste of the Roaring Twenties, and a small seconds sub-dial.
- Presented on a leather strap with ardillon buckle.
What are the case dimensions and water resistance?
Alpina lists the rectangular case at 32.5 × 39 mm. Its French page specifies a 9.71 mm thickness and 30 m water resistance; the US product page describes the watch as splash resistant. Treat the rating as a modest everyday-splash specification, not as evidence that the watch is suitable for swimming or diving.

What to check before buying
- Match the reference number to the dial and strap configuration you want; the two official variants have different references.
- Confirm local stock, current pricing, shipping and applicable taxes with the seller.
- If replacing the strap, verify fit for the exact reference. Alpina’s US black-dial listing gives a 22 mm lug width, but that figure should not be assumed for every variant without confirmation.
- Use the maker’s specifications for dimensions and movement details, not as a substitute for independent evidence about accuracy, durability, comfort or long-term reliability.
