The Alsta Superautomatic 1975 is a 2019-era re-edition of the brand’s 1970 Superautomatic, the watch Alsta says Richard Dreyfuss wore as Matt Hooper in Jaws. Its defining details are a 38 mm cushion-shaped steel case, Seiko NH35A automatic movement, and 300 m water-resistance rating. The “1975” name refers both to the film’s release year and to the re-edition’s limited run of 1,975 watches.
What the name means
Alsta’s history places the original Superautomatic’s arrival in 1970. Many examples carried “Nautoscaph Superautomatic” on the case back, but Alsta says the revived watch dropped “Nautoscaph” from its name to avoid confusion between the two product lines. How the re-edition compares with the original
Alsta describes the 1970 Superautomatic as chunkier and more rugged than the Nautoscaph, with a cushion-shaped case. For the re-edition, the case grew from 36 mm to 38 mm. Its fixed-link stainless-steel bracelet evokes the original’s distinctive appearance but is not expandable like the 1970s Speidel bracelet. A 300 m rating is a stated specification, not proof by itself that a particular watch is suitable for a particular dive. Alsta lists the ISO claims above, but the cited material does not provide an independent test report or certification assessment.

Do not confuse it with the Superautomatic 2025
Alsta presents the Superautomatic 2025 as a separate 50th-anniversary chapter in the model’s story, not as another name for the 1975-limited re-edition. The 2019-era re-edition covered here uses the Seiko NH35A. Alsta describes the 2025 edition as Swiss-Made, but the cited legacy material does not provide a complete technical specification sheet for it.
