What did Andrea Furlan say about Furlan Marri?
Andrew McUtchen interviewed Andrea Furlan for Time+Tide, which published an abbreviated transcript edited for clarity on 29 March 2024. Furlan said the company had been operating for about two and a half years at the time. The conversation is a founder’s account of the brand, not an independent audit of its sales or business performance.
Early milestones and sales
Asked how quickly the brand reached its Kickstarter target, Furlan said it took 35 seconds to meet its CHF 75,000 pledge goal. He also described the Mare Blu Ref. 1051-A as having received about 5,700 orders in ten days, followed by the phrase “around four million.” He did not specify a currency for that last figure, and the interview does not independently verify any of these figures. How he describes the brand
Asked to sum up Furlan Marri in three words, Furlan answered: “Details, honesty, community.” He pointed to an especially hidden detail as an example of the first: perlage decoration on the interior of closed-back cases. As he explained, the work is intended to show that the brand took time over the finish even though owners will not see it during ordinary wear.

What is a Furlan Marri mechaquartz watch?
Mechaquartz combines quartz timekeeping with a mechanical module that gives the chronograph a more mechanical feel. In the interview, Furlan pushed back on treating the idea as solely Japanese: his account was that Swiss watchmakers including Piguet and LeCoultre developed such a module, while Seiko later led in bringing this type of movement to market. Furlan Marri’s official Mechaquartz collection page gives a similar account of Swiss and Japanese development around the quartz-crisis era.
Those are founder and brand accounts, rather than an independent technical history. They establish how Furlan Marri frames the movement, but are not enough on their own to settle a definitive chronology of mechaquartz development.

What did Furlan say was coming next?
Asked which watch he was most excited about, Furlan pointed to “the perpetual calendar we are working on for a public release.” The interview records that as a project he was working on at publication time; it does not establish a release date or current product status.
The brand’s homepage says Furlan Marri received the 2021 GPHG Horological Revelation Prize for its Mr. Grey Mechaquartz model, eight months after launching its Kickstarter campaign. That timing is the brand’s own description. See the Furlan Marri homepage.
