The Äonic Automat tells time with a three-dimensional arrangement of rotating discs instead of conventional hands. Äonic developed the display and its Damasko-based movement for this watch. The official shop currently lists the Automat Black/Black at €7,650, including two straps and a travel case. This overview draws on published specifications and reporting; it is not a firsthand wear test.
How do you read the Äonic Automat?
Äonic calls its display the Disc Play System. Rather than pointing hands at markers, the watch uses a three-dimensional stack of discs to indicate the time. Äonic describes a 14-piece disc construction, supported by additional vertical and horizontal suspension. The intended reading order is hours first, then minutes, with the minutes emphasized. Äonic’s product page presents the mechanism as the watch’s defining feature.
Forbes describes the display as cone-shaped and reports that a 120-degree viewing window in the minute disc allows precise setting with the movement’s hacking function. That is a reported design detail, not an independent assessment of setting precision or everyday legibility. Without a documented wear test, there is no basis here for a measured readability verdict.
How were the display and movement developed?
The Automat uses the Damasko A26-1W manufacture calibre. Äonic says the exclusive calibre grew from research and development for the watch and more than 20 constructive modifications to Damasko’s A26. Forbes describes the disc system as integrated into the base movement rather than added as a separate module, and reports additional support components and modified hand tubes. These are descriptions from the companies and reporting, not independently verified engineering findings. Äonic’s Damasko partner page outlines the collaboration.

Äonic says the watch is handmade in Germany and that Damasko manufactures the case, movement and disc construction. The partner page also attributes this statement to Damasko founder Konrad Damasko: “For Albert Einstein, time was relative. For DAMASKO, the quality of time is absolute.” It is a brand statement, not a technical measure.
How big is the Äonic Automat?
Forbes reports these measurements for the Automat Black: 40 mm across the case from 2 to 8 o’clock, 43.8 mm from 6 to 12 o’clock, and 12.95 mm high. The unusual case shape makes the direction of measurement important: the two widths describe different axes, rather than a single conventional diameter. Forbes also reports a weight of 64 g including strap and clasp. Äonic’s current landing page does not list all of these dimensions, so confirm that the figures apply to the exact variant being considered.

Case, crystal and water resistance
Forbes describes a hardened stainless-steel case with a multilayer coating, a double-cambered sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on its inside, and water resistance to 100 metres. Äonic’s current home page describes special German anti-magnetic steel hardened to over 1,000 Vickers and a single-block sapphire crystal. The descriptions differ in wording and do not establish that every detail applies identically to every variant. Confirm the specifications for the particular watch before purchase.
What editions are available?
Forbes reported that the first Black Edition was limited to 100 pieces and launched in June 2024 at €7,650 including VAT. The official shop currently lists the Automat Black/Black at the same price. A December 2024 Micro Praha gallery reported that Äonic showed a smaller silver Automat Medium; Äonic’s home page also displays silver/silver and blue/silver Medium design samples. The reviewed pages do not provide complete specifications or confirm current stock for each Medium variant.

The Automat Black’s appearance in the Petite Aiguille category on the GPHG 2024 competing-watches page confirms it was listed in that year’s competition; it does not mean the watch won an award.
How much does it cost, and what comes with it?
The Äonic shop currently lists the Automat Black/Black for €7,650. The listing includes one Smooth Black strap, one Happy Orange strap and an Äonic travel case. Price, stock and delivery estimates can change, so check the shop for current details before ordering.

The shop separately lists straps and a travel case. Forbes reports that the quick-change straps were made by German strap maker Fluco. Äonic’s partner page describes fixed band bars, so the fact that a separately listed strap is 22 mm wide does not establish that an ordinary third-party strap will fit or work with the watch’s attachment system. Ask Äonic to confirm compatibility for a specific strap.

What does the warranty cover?
Äonic’s published warranty states two years of coverage from purchase for a watch bought from Äonic or an authorized retailer. It describes repair without charge for covered defects, with exclusions including ordinary wear, improper use and unauthorized intervention. Its claim instructions request the original invoice and a completed international warranty card, and direct owners to send the watch to Äonic in Berlin. Read the current warranty terms before buying, and confirm a retailer’s authorized status rather than relying on historical partner listings.
