The main changes Apple emphasizes are a redesigned fit, stronger claimed active noise cancellation (ANC), built-in workout heart-rate sensing, Live Translation, hearing features, and updated battery estimates. Apple’s $249 figure is the U.S. starting price announced in 2025, not a verified current price. Prices vary by market: Apple’s Canadian announcement stated CAD $329. Before purchasing, verify the live price, inventory, seller, warranty terms, and that the listing is for AirPods Pro 3 rather than another model. Search for the full product name—Apple AirPods Pro 3—instead of the ambiguous phrase “AirPods 3.”
Fit and active noise cancellation
Apple describes a reworked shape and foam-infused ear tips intended to improve fit and stability. The box includes five silicone ear-tip sizes: XXS, XS, S, M, and L. The extra-small option may help people who have had difficulty getting a good seal with earlier AirPods Pro models.
Fit affects comfort and can affect passive isolation, ANC performance, bass response, and how securely the earbuds stay in place. If one size feels comfortable but sounds thin or lets in too much outside noise, try another size rather than assuming the earbuds themselves are faulty.
Apple claimed up to twice as much noise removal as AirPods Pro 2 and up to four times as much as the original AirPods Pro. Apple says its comparison testing was conducted in July 2025 using an iPhone 16, prerelease AirPods firmware, and iOS 26, with noise reduction tested in accordance with IEC 60268-24. This is Apple’s test claim, not an independent result; performance depends on settings, environment, fit, and other factors.

AirPods Pro 3 add built-in heart-rate sensing for workouts. Apple says users can track heart rate and calories across up to 50 workout types with the Fitness app. Apple lists support in Fitness on iPhone with iOS 26, iPad with iPadOS 26, and Apple TV with tvOS 26 when also paired with an iPhone or Apple Watch.
This is an exercise-tracking feature, not a general-purpose medical monitor. Software and device requirements apply, and third-party app support may vary. If you need medically significant readings or have symptoms that concern you, use an appropriate medical device and consult a healthcare professional rather than treating the earbuds as a diagnostic instrument.

Apple rates listening time at up to 6.5 hours when workout heart-rate sensing is active, compared with up to 8 hours with ANC enabled in its standard listening estimate.
Live Translation: useful, but not universal
Apple described Live Translation as a beta capability at launch, powered by Apple Intelligence and designed to help translate conversations through the AirPods experience. It is not a feature that works with every phone, language, or region.
Apple’s launch requirements included a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone nearby running iOS 26 or later. The launch announcement listed English (UK and U.S.), French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish, while cautioning that language and regional availability can vary. Check Apple’s current requirements before buying specifically for translation; do not assume the launch language list describes current support.
In practical terms, Live Translation is a reason to choose AirPods Pro 3 only if you have compatible Apple hardware and your intended languages are supported. It should not be treated as a standalone translation system built into the earbuds.
Hearing-health features
Apple lists several hearing-related functions for AirPods Pro 3:
- Hearing Test for assessing hearing in supported circumstances.
- Hearing Aid functionality intended for adults with perceived mild-to-moderate hearing loss.
- Hearing Protection features for reducing exposure to loud sound.
Availability is not identical worldwide. Hearing features can depend on country or region, compatible firmware and Apple devices, and applicable regulatory authorization. Check Apple’s current regional availability information before relying on a feature.

These tools do not replace an audiologist’s evaluation or professional medical care. If hearing loss is sudden, one-sided, worsening, or accompanied by pain, dizziness, or other symptoms, seek medical advice rather than relying on an earbud hearing test.
Battery life and charging
| Use case | Apple’s stated maximum estimate |
|---|---|
| Listening with ANC enabled | Up to 8 hours |
| Listening with Spatial Audio and Head Tracking | Up to 7.5 hours |
| Listening with workout heart-rate sensing | Up to 6.5 hours |
| Listening with ANC using the case | Up to 24 hours total |
| Five-minute case charge | Around 1 hour of listening |
| Transparency using Hearing Aid feature | Up to 10 hours |
These are Apple’s mode-specific estimates, not independent measurements. Real battery life varies with volume, connectivity, ANC mode, Spatial Audio, head tracking, calls, temperature, battery age, and other usage conditions.
The USB-C case supports MagSafe, Apple Watch and Qi-certified chargers, and USB-C charging. Apple lists a speaker and lanyard loop on the case. The USB-C charging cable is sold separately, so account for that if you do not already have a suitable cable.
Durability: IP57, but not waterproof
Apple lists an IP57 dust, sweat, and water-resistance rating for the earbuds and charging case. That rating does not make them waterproof for all uses.
Do not swim with AirPods Pro 3, deliberately submerge them, wear them in the shower, or assume that an IP rating guarantees protection from water damage. Sweat, rain, salt water, soaps, impact, aging seals, and charging while wet can all create risks.
Compatibility: best with recent Apple devices
AirPods Pro 3 can function as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but the available features and experience are limited outside Apple’s ecosystem.

- Active Noise Cancellation blocks outside noise, so you can immerse yourself in music
- Transparency mode for hearing and interacting with the world around you
- Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking places sound all around you
- Adaptive EQ automatically tunes music to your ears
- Three sizes of soft, tapered silicone tips for a customizable fit
Feature requirements vary by device and software. Apple specifies iOS 26 or later for relevant iPhone features, including workout heart-rate tracking through Fitness; Live Translation requires a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone and supported languages. Check the requirements for each feature against your own hardware before buying.
Android users should expect basic Bluetooth audio functionality and should not assume they will receive the same integration, settings, health features, or translation capabilities as an iPhone user. Owners of older Apple hardware should verify whether it supports the required current software.

Should you buy AirPods Pro 3?
AirPods Pro 3 may suit buyers who already use compatible Apple devices and value several of the following:
- Apple-device integration and access to the Apple audio ecosystem.
- A more adjustable fit, including an XXS ear tip.
- ANC, with performance subject to Apple’s claim and the quality of the ear-tip seal.
- Workout heart-rate tracking through compatible devices and Fitness.
- Live Translation with compatible Apple hardware and supported languages.
- Hearing features that are available in the buyer’s region and appropriate to their needs.
They are a less straightforward choice if you use Android, have Apple hardware that cannot run the required software, need medical-grade monitoring, or are buying primarily for a feature that may not be supported in your language or country.
Owners of an earlier AirPods Pro model should consider whether the changes address their needs. The upgrade may be more compelling if fit has been a persistent problem, ANC matters, workout heart-rate data is useful, or the newer features are supported by their devices. It may be less compelling if their current earbuds already cover their everyday listening needs.

Some buyers may consider AppleCare+ for Headphones or an AppleCare One plan where eligible. Coverage, pricing, enrollment windows, loss or damage terms, and availability can vary, so verify the exact plan for your purchase before paying for it. Evaluate a protection plan against the earbuds’ price, your history of losing or damaging small devices, and the plan’s exclusions rather than assuming it covers every problem.

AirPods Pro 3 buying checklist
- Confirm that the listing says AirPods Pro 3, not AirPods 3 or an older AirPods Pro generation.
- Compare the live retailer price with Apple’s $249 U.S. launch price, remembering it is not a current-price check.
- Check the seller, condition, return policy, and warranty.
- Verify that your Apple device supports the software required for the features you want.
- Check current Live Translation language and regional requirements if translation is a deciding factor.
- Check hearing-feature availability in your country and remember that hearing tools are not a substitute for professional care.
- Confirm whether you already have a USB-C charging cable; Apple sells the cable separately.
- Consider protection coverage only after checking current eligibility, price, and terms.
Bottom line
AirPods Pro 3 launched in U.S. stores on September 19, 2025, at a stated U.S. starting price of $249. Apple’s headline features include a redesigned fit, claimed stronger ANC, workout heart-rate sensing, Live Translation, hearing features, and up to eight hours of ANC listening. Apple’s battery and noise-removal figures are claims or estimates, not independent test results.
The buying decision depends heavily on your Apple hardware and feature needs. Check device, software, language, and regional requirements before buying, and compare the live retailer price rather than assuming the launch price remains current.
