Apple has not announced smart glasses, a release date, a price, or an official product name. Current reporting points to a possible late-2027 target for its first glasses, which are described as display-free AI smart glasses—not a VR headset or display-based AR glasses.
Reports describe cameras, audio, and AI features, with some functions potentially relying on an iPhone. Those are reported plans, not Apple-confirmed specifications. A separate, later display-equipped AR/XR product has also been discussed in analyst reporting, but its timing is unconfirmed.
When are Apple Glasses coming out?
Reports now point to late 2027, after an earlier expected end-of-2026 introduction and early-2027 shipment reportedly slipped. Apple has not confirmed a release date. MacRumors summarizes the current late-2027 expectation, while 9to5Mac reported in May 2026 on the delay and revised target.
The responsible answer is: Apple has not announced when its rumored glasses will launch; current reporting cites late 2027 as a target. Treat that as a reported schedule, not a commitment. The product name is also unconfirmed; “Apple Glasses” is a convenient label, not confirmed branding.

Are Apple Glasses AR or VR?
The first glasses described in current reporting are not expected to be a display-based AR device or a VR headset. They are reported to be display-free smart glasses with cameras, audio, and AI-related functions. Without a display in the lenses, they would not provide the visual overlays or immersive headset experience people usually mean by AR or VR.
Analyst reporting describes display-equipped AR/XR glasses as a separate, later project, with one reported roadmap placing that work in 2029. That is an analyst expectation, not an Apple announcement. Keep both projects distinct from Apple Vision Pro, Apple’s existing headset product.
| Product or project | What is known or reported | Status |
|---|---|---|
| First rumored Apple glasses | Reportedly display-free, with cameras, audio, and AI features | Unannounced; features and timing are unconfirmed |
| Display-equipped Apple AR/XR glasses | Discussed as a separate, later project | Analyst roadmap only; not confirmed by Apple |
| Apple Vision Pro | Apple’s existing headset and spatial-computing product | Official Apple product; a different device class |
What will Apple Glasses do?
Coverage of Apple’s reported prototypes describes an ordinary-looking, display-free device intended to combine eyewear with camera, audio, and assistant functions. TechCrunch, attributing its reporting to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, described photo and video capture, calls, music, and interaction with an upgraded Siri. MacRumors also summarizes possible touch and voice controls, directions, live translation, and visual question answering. None of these are confirmed launch features.

How to assess Apple Glasses reports
- Separate Apple announcements from reporting. Apple’s June 2026 software announcement confirms software developments, not smart glasses.
- Check the product category. Current reports describe the first glasses as display-free; do not assume they will offer AR overlays or VR.

- Wait for confirmed details before comparing prices or requirements. Apple has not announced a price, supported iPhone models, final feature list, or privacy policy.
