The update applies to AirPods Pro 3 and both USB-C and Lightning versions of AirPods Pro 2. Apple’s official release note is limited to “Bug fixes and other improvements,” so 8B41 should be treated as a maintenance update—not a confirmed new-feature release.
What Apple released
Firmware 8B41 is the current public firmware listed by Apple for:

- AirPods Pro 3
- AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case and USB-C
- AirPods Pro 2 with MagSafe Charging Case and Lightning
The release followed AirPods Pro 3 firmware 8B40. The “and more” in contemporaneous coverage refers primarily to AirPods Pro 2 receiving the same 8B41 release, rather than to a separate product announcement. 9to5Mac reported the June 16 release, while Apple’s firmware support page lists the current model-by-model versions.
What changed in 8B41?
Apple’s complete public note for 8B41 says: “Bug fixes and other improvements.” Apple does not identify the bugs or specify changes to sound quality, battery life, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, connectivity, or controls.
#1 Best Overall
- WORLD’S BEST IN-EAR ACTIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Removes up to 2x more unwanted noise than AirPods Pro 2* so you can stay fully immersed in the moment.*
- BREAKTHROUGH AUDIO PERFORMANCE — Experience breathtaking, three-dimensional audio with AirPods Pro 3. A new acoustic architecture delivers transformed bass, detailed clarity so you can hear every instrument, and stunningly vivid vocals.
- HEART RATE SENSING — Built-in heart rate sensing lets you track your heart rate and calories burned for up to 50 different workout types.* With iPhone, you will have access to the Move ring, step count, and the new Workout Buddy,* powered by Apple Intelligence.*
- LIVE TRANSLATION — Communicate across language barriers using Live Translation,* enabled by Apple Intelligence.*
- EXTENDED BATTERY LIFE — Get up to 8 hours of listening time with Active Noise Cancellation on a single charge. Or up to 10 hours in Transparency using the Hearing Aid feature.*
That means owners should install the update, but should not expect a measurable audio or battery improvement based on Apple’s documentation. Any specific benefit remains unconfirmed without independent testing.
8B41 is not the major feature update
Do not confuse 8B41 with firmware 8A356. Apple separately documented 8A356 alongside major capabilities associated with AirPods Pro 3 and iOS 26, including heart-rate sensing, Live Translation, hearing-related improvements, studio-quality recording, camera remote functionality, charging reminders, and Automatic Switching improvements.
Those features should not be attributed to 8B41. The newer public release is documented only as a bug-fix and improvement update.

How to install 8B41
There is no normal manual “Update” button for public AirPods firmware. Apple’s supported process is automatic:
- Update the paired iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the latest available operating-system version.
- Turn on Bluetooth.
- Connect the AirPods to that device.
- Connect the device to Wi-Fi.
- Put both AirPods in their charging case.
- Connect the case to power.
- Close the lid.
- Keep the closed case within Bluetooth range for at least 30 minutes.
- Reopen the case, reconnect the AirPods, and check the firmware version again.
The 30-minute period is Apple’s minimum recommended wait, not a guaranteed installation time.

If 8B41 does not appear
First, repeat the automatic-update process carefully. The update may not have completed because the case was not charging, the paired device was not connected to Wi-Fi, the case moved out of Bluetooth range, or the lid was reopened too soon.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Confirm that you are checking the correct pair of AirPods.
- Make sure both earbuds are in the case and the case is connected to power.
- Keep the case closed and near the paired Apple device for at least 30 minutes.
- Restart the paired iPhone, iPad, or Mac, reconnect the AirPods, and repeat the process.
These are practical troubleshooting steps, not guarantees that force an update. If you do not have a nearby Apple device, Apple says an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider may be able to update the firmware.
Public firmware versus beta firmware
8B41 is the public, stable firmware release. Apple also offers beta AirPods firmware for supported models, including AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2.
Rank #4
- This pre-owned product is not Apple certified, but has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
Beta installation requires compatible beta software, including iOS 27 or macOS 27 beta or later for the relevant AirPods Pro models. Apple warns that beta firmware cannot be manually removed or downgraded; the AirPods remain on beta software until a later non-beta firmware becomes available. Details are available in Apple’s AirPods beta firmware documentation.
Unless you are developing or testing software, the public firmware is the safer choice.

No—not because of this update alone. AirPods Pro 2 also receive 8B41, and Apple has not documented a major feature exclusive to AirPods Pro 3 in this release.
Best Value
- For iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac
- Dolby Atmos Support for Immersive Audio
- IPX4 Sweat & Water Resistance
- Spatial Audio with Dynamic Head Tracking
- Adaptive EQ Adjust Music in Real-Time
AirPods Pro 3 should be evaluated for its hardware and broader feature set instead, including heart-rate sensing, hearing features, Live Translation support, IP57 resistance, a USB-C MagSafe Charging Case, and up to eight hours of ANC listening on a single charge. Apple lists the U.S. price at $249 on its AirPods Pro 3 buying page.
Feature support is not universal. Full functionality requires compatible Apple hardware and current operating-system software, while hearing features and Live Translation can vary by region and language. Apple specifically notes that Live Translation with AirPods is unavailable for EU residents whose device and Apple Account region are both in the EU.
Other Apple options
| Model | U.S. price listed | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| AirPods Pro 3 | $249 | Users who want the latest in-ear hardware, heart-rate sensing, and Pro features |
| AirPods 4 with ANC | $179 | Users who want ANC and Apple integration at a lower price, without heart-rate sensing or Pro hearing features |
| AirPods 4 | $129 | Users who want basic AirPods functionality and do not need ANC |
| AirPods Max 2 | $549 | Users who prefer over-ear headphones; Apple lists up to 20 hours of ANC listening |
Prices above are U.S. Apple list prices supplied for this article and may vary by country. AirPods 4 and AirPods Max 2 are not alternatives for receiving the 8B41 update; the firmware applies to the specific AirPods Pro models listed above.
Compatibility matters
Separate three questions when evaluating the update:
- Firmware compatibility: whether your AirPods model is eligible for 8B41.
- Feature compatibility: whether your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch supports a particular capability.
- Beta compatibility: whether your device runs the required iOS 27 or macOS 27 beta software.
An AirPods Pro 3 owner can receive compatible firmware without every AirPods Pro 3 feature being available on every iPhone. Device generation, operating-system version, language, region, and regulatory approval can all affect feature availability.
