As of August 18, 2026, there is no official Apple Ring product page, release date, price or final feature list. A June 2026 leak claims an internal “iRing” project is under development, while Apple patents show that the company has explored ring-based health sensing and gesture control. That makes an Apple Ring possible—but not confirmed or necessarily close to launch.
Is Apple actually making a smart ring?
Apple has explored the idea in patents for years. Its 2024 ring-device patent describes possible biometric sensing, touch and force input, motion detection, wireless communication, remote-control functions and pointing-device applications. An earlier Apple patent covering gestures and biometric sensing provides further evidence that the technology has been investigated.

The latest development is a June 2026 report from leaker and prototype collector Kosutami. As reported by MacRumors and 9to5Mac, the source claims Apple is developing an “iRing” to compete with Oura and Samsung. The report did not provide a launch date, images, specifications, price or evidence of mass production.

That conflicts with earlier reporting, including a 2024 report that Apple had no plans to launch a smart ring because it could overlap with or cannibalise Apple Watch sales. The most accurate conclusion is therefore: Apple has patented smart-ring concepts, and a new leak claims development is under way, but a retail product is unconfirmed.
Apple Ring release date
There is no confirmed Apple Ring release date. Predictions of a September launch, a late-2026 announcement or a 2027 release are speculation rather than reported schedules.
Apple’s June 8, 2026 WWDC announcement introduced software updates including iOS 27 and watchOS 27, but did not announce a smart ring. The omission does not rule out a later announcement, but it provides no support for a WWDC launch theory. Apple’s official announcement is available in its Newsroom.
Possible outcomes include a late-2026 launch, a 2027-or-later release, or no consumer product at all. Apple could also wait years after filing patents before commercialising the underlying technology.
How much could an Apple Ring cost?
No credible Apple Ring price has been reported. Claims that it will cost $299 or $399 should not be treated as facts.
Existing products provide market context, not an Apple forecast. Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy Ring page has shown a starting price of $299.99 before trade-in, although another captured page state showed $399.99. Promotions, variants and page states can change, so check the live Samsung listing before buying. MacRumors reported the Oura Ring 5 as starting at $399; Oura also uses a separate membership model.
Apple could price a ring below the Apple Watch to broaden its health ecosystem, or near premium smart rings because of its materials, sensors and software. Both are analysis, not leaked pricing.

Health and wellness tracking
The patents mention heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature and other biometric data. A commercial ring could also be expected to track sleep duration, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, movement, temperature trends and recovery. Those expectations come from the wider smart-ring category—not from an Apple specification.
Apple Health integration is one of the strongest product hypotheses. A ring could potentially send data to Apple Health and work alongside Fitness, Apple Watch, iPhone, AirPods or family health-sharing features. Until Apple announces a device, however, none of those integrations is guaranteed.

Gesture and remote control
The 2024 patent is notable because it describes more than a health tracker. A ring could detect touch, force, position, orientation, motion or radio-frequency input, then act as a remote control, pointing device or controller.
Potential applications include adjusting volume, selecting interface elements, triggering shortcuts, controlling smart-home devices or providing discreet input for another Apple product such as Vision Pro. These are patent concepts. They do not show that Apple has solved gesture accuracy, battery life or user-interface design for a retail ring.
Display, haptics and charging
A ring has limited space for a battery, sensors and controls. Patent material includes possibilities such as haptic feedback, embedded sensors, a rechargeable battery, LEDs and a charging port. Apple could instead use a charging case, as Samsung does. No final charging method, battery life or display has been confirmed.
Would an Apple Ring replace the Apple Watch?
Probably not. A ring could be better for sleep tracking, passive all-day wear, discreet biometric monitoring and people who prefer to wear a traditional watch. It could also appeal to users who do not want a screen on their wrist.
The Apple Watch would remain substantially stronger for notifications, calls, messages, maps, GPS, emergency features, on-device apps, workout display and live activity feedback. The more likely role for a ring is as a companion to the Watch—or as a lighter alternative for users who do not need smartwatch functions.
This overlap may explain Apple’s hesitation. A ring could provide some of the Watch’s health features at a lower price while lacking the screen and communication features that justify buying a Watch.

That is unknown. Important unanswered questions include whether the ring would sync directly over Bluetooth, whether an iPhone would be mandatory, whether Apple Watch ownership would be optional and whether Android support would exist.
Apple’s ecosystem strategy makes Android compatibility impossible to assume. Apple Health features might be restricted to iPhone users, while some functions could depend on an Apple Watch. Anyone considering waiting should treat iPhone-only compatibility as a real possibility.
Would Apple charge a subscription?
No subscription model has been confirmed. Apple could include core tracking with the hardware, offer advanced insights through a paid service, bundle features with Apple One or Fitness+, or charge no recurring fee at all.

This would be an important competitive choice. Oura uses a membership model, while Samsung markets the Galaxy Ring without the same type of recurring membership requirement. A subscription-free Apple Ring would be easier to compare with Samsung; a paid insights tier could resemble Oura’s approach.

Medical features: what not to assume
Measuring a biometric signal would not automatically make an Apple Ring a medical device or allow it to diagnose a condition. There is currently no evidence that an Apple Ring will detect sleep apnoea, estimate blood pressure, measure glucose or receive FDA clearance.
Oura’s own health white paper says its ring is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, monitor or prevent medical conditions. Any future Apple medical claims would require separate evidence, regulatory treatment and clearly defined limitations.
Apple Ring versus existing options
Apple Watch
Buy an Apple Watch now if Apple Health integration, GPS, safety features, notifications and active workout feedback matter more than the ring form factor. It is the practical Apple alternative while a ring remains unconfirmed.
Oura Ring 5
Oura is the established choice for readers prioritising sleep, recovery and broader wellness insights. Oura announced the Ring 5 as 40% smaller, with week-long battery life and new sensing capabilities, and said shipping began June 4, 2026. The trade-off is its membership model and lack of Apple-native ownership of the whole ecosystem. See Oura and its membership information.

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring is a real, available product with titanium construction, sleep and health tracking and Samsung Health integration. It is most compelling for Galaxy owners. iPhone users should verify compatibility and feature limitations before purchase.
RingConn and other subscription-free rings
RingConn and similar products may suit buyers who want the form factor without Oura’s recurring fee. They are not equivalent Apple substitutes: Apple Health integration, iOS polish, privacy terms, sizing, returns and sensor performance must be assessed separately. Check current specifications and pricing directly with the manufacturer.
Should you wait for an Apple Ring?
- Wait if Apple Health integration is your top priority, you do not urgently need sleep or recovery tracking, and you accept that the product may be years away—or may never ship.
- Buy an Apple Watch if you want Apple integration now plus GPS, notifications, safety features and an on-device workout experience.
- Buy an existing smart ring if discreet sleep tracking is the priority and waiting for an unconfirmed product has no value to you.
- Consider Samsung or another Android-compatible option if you use Android; do not assume a future Apple Ring will support it.
- Compare subscriptions carefully if you want predictable long-term costs. Apple’s policy is unknown, while Oura’s membership is an established part of its product model.
Smart rings also require more careful sizing than ordinary jewellery. Sensors need stable skin contact, and fingers can swell with heat, exercise or overnight. Battery life, charging frequency, charging-case size and what happens to tracking while the ring charges will matter as much as the sensor list.
Apple Ring rumour tracker
- Confirmed: Apple has not announced a smart-ring product, price, release date or retail specifications.
- Reported: A June 2026 leak claims an “iRing” project is under development and aimed at the Oura and Samsung category.
- Patented: Apple has described ring-based gesture control, remote-control functions and biometric sensing in patent documents.
- Speculative: The name, design, launch timing, price, battery life, Apple Health integration, Android support, medical functions and subscription model.
Bottom line
Apple’s smart ring remains a possibility, not a confirmed product. The patents make health sensing and gesture control technically plausible, and the June 2026 leak suggests Apple may be revisiting the category. But there is still no launch date, price or final feature list. Buy an existing ring if you need discreet tracking now; choose an Apple Watch if broader Apple functionality matters more; wait only if Apple ecosystem integration is worth accepting an indefinite wait.
