Apple Watch Series 11 is rated for up to 24 hours of normal use, including sleep tracking. Its hypertension notifications analyze heart-sensor data for patterns associated with possible high blood pressure; the watch does not measure blood pressure or diagnose hypertension.
Wearing the watch consistently matters for this longer-term analysis, but Low Power Mode stops collection of the heart data used for hypertension notifications.
What Apple’s 24-hour battery rating means
Apple rates the Series 11 for up to 24 hours of normal use. That figure includes sleep tracking, so it is intended to cover a full day-and-night cycle rather than just daytime use. With Low Power Mode enabled, Apple quotes up to 38 hours.
“Up to” is important. Apple’s number comes from a controlled test, not a guaranteed runtime for every owner. The test included:

- 300 time checks
- 90 notifications
- 15 minutes of app use
- A 60-minute workout with Bluetooth music playback
- Six hours of sleep tracking
For the GPS model, the watch remained connected to an iPhone over Bluetooth throughout the test. The GPS + Cellular model used four hours of cellular connectivity and 20 hours of Bluetooth connectivity. Cellular use, weak signal strength, workouts, screen brightness, app activity, notifications and settings can all change the result.
In practical terms, Series 11 should be capable of covering a typical day and a night of sleep tracking, but heavy GPS, cellular or workout use can make a same-day top-up necessary. The 24-hour rating should not be read as “24 hours under every workload.”
Series 11 charging times
Fast charging requires Apple’s included Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable. Apple’s estimates are:
| Charging time | Apple’s claimed result |
|---|---|
| About 30 minutes | Up to 80% charge |
| 15 minutes | Up to 8 hours of normal use |
| 5 minutes | Up to 8 hours of sleep tracking |
Actual charging performance varies with the power adapter, the watch’s starting charge, temperature, settings and whether the watch is being used while charging. The five-minute sleep-tracking top-up is particularly useful: you can charge before bed or after waking without needing a long charging session.

Setup happens on the paired iPhone, not directly on the watch. Apple’s current Health app layouts may label the item slightly differently, but the route is:
- Open the Health app on the iPhone.
- Tap your picture or initials in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Health Checklist.
- Tap Set Up under Hypertension Notifications. On some versions, tap Hypertension Notifications directly.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
The watch must be paired, Wrist Detection must be enabled, and both the iPhone and Apple Watch should be updated to the latest compatible software. Series 11 requires an iPhone 11 or later, including the iPhone SE (second generation or later), running iOS 26 or later.

Who can use the feature?
Hypertension notifications are supported on Apple Watch Series 9 and later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 and later. They are not available on Apple Watch SE. Availability depends on region; consult Apple’s watchOS feature-availability list for supported locations.
Apple’s eligibility requirements include the following:
- You must be at least 22 years old.
- You must not be pregnant.
- You must not have already been diagnosed with hypertension.
- Wrist Detection must be switched on.
An active pregnancy record in the Health app can prevent setup. Apple also says the feature has not been tested in people with paced rhythms or irregular rhythms such as atrial fibrillation, which may affect performance.
How the hypertension feature works
The Series 11 uses data from its optical heart sensor to look for patterns associated with possible hypertension. It does not use the watch to take a blood-pressure reading.
The analysis takes place over a 30-day evaluation period. Apple requires at least 14 days of awake data within that period before the system can produce a result. If there is not enough usable data, you will not receive a notification. A new 30-day evaluation window starts automatically after the previous one ends.
This means the feature is not an instant alert that appears after one unusually high reading. It is a longer-term screening tool based on recurring patterns. Wearing the watch snugly on top of the wrist and keeping it on consistently gives the system more opportunity to collect usable data.

What a notification means
A notification means the watch has detected patterns associated with possible hypertension. It does not confirm that you have high blood pressure, and it is not a medical diagnosis. The feature does not detect every case of hypertension and is not intended to diagnose, treat, monitor or manage the condition.
It also cannot detect a heart attack and is not designed to identify stroke, blood clots, atrial fibrillation, heart failure or high cholesterol. If you have chest pain, pressure, tightness or symptoms that could indicate a heart attack, seek emergency medical help rather than waiting for a watch notification.
What to do after a notification
Apple’s follow-up process uses a separate blood-pressure cuff. After a possible-hypertension notification, the Health app prompts you to take blood-pressure measurements twice a day for seven days and record them.
Series 11 does not provide those measurements itself, and Apple does not include a cuff in the box. You need a compatible third-party blood-pressure monitor or another clinically appropriate cuff.

- Follow the instructions in the app.
To enter one reading manually, go to Health > Search > Heart > Blood Pressure, tap Add a Measurement, enter the systolic and diastolic values, and tap Done.
The battery setting that can disable hypertension data
Low Power Mode is not simply a display or performance setting. It also disables the heart-data collection used for hypertension notifications, along with background heart-rate measurements and other functions.

- GREAT BATTERY LIFE AND FASTER CHARGING—Enjoy a smartwatch with all-day, 18-hour battery life* from sunup to sundown. Then charge up to twice as fast as SE 2* and get up to 8 hours of battery in just 15 minutes.*
To enable it from the watch:
- Press the side button to open Control Center.
- Tap the battery percentage button.
- Turn on Low Power Mode.
- Scroll down and tap Turn On or Turn On For.
You can also open Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode. The watch can be set to run the mode for one, two or three days. Normally, Low Power Mode switches off automatically when the watch reaches 80% charge unless you selected a specific duration.
That creates a practical trade-off. Use Low Power Mode for a long trip or a difficult charging day, and you may gain battery life, but the watch will stop collecting the heart data needed for the hypertension feature during that period. If long-term screening is a priority, avoid leaving Low Power Mode enabled unnecessarily.

Reasons the feature may not work as expected
| Problem | Likely explanation or fix |
|---|---|
| No setup option in Health | Check the iPhone model, iOS and watchOS versions, region, age requirements and whether an active pregnancy record is present. |
| No notification after setup | The system needs a 30-day evaluation period and at least 14 days of awake data. No notification does not prove that hypertension is absent. |
| Data collection stops | Check whether Low Power Mode is enabled. It disables collection for this feature. |
| Inconsistent readings or analysis | Wear the watch snugly on top of the wrist and consistently. Irregular rhythms or paced rhythms may affect performance. |
| Nothing new is being collected | Full watch storage can prevent new data collection. Delete unwanted apps, music or podcasts to free space. |
| Expecting a blood-pressure number | The watch does not measure blood pressure. Use a separate third-party cuff and record the results in Health. |
Common misconceptions

FAQ
Does Apple Watch Series 11 really last 24 hours?
Apple rates it for up to 24 hours of normal use, including sleep tracking. The actual result varies with GPS, cellular use, workouts, signal strength, settings and other usage. Low Power Mode is rated for up to 38 hours.
Can Apple Watch Series 11 measure blood pressure?
No. The watch looks for heart-sensor patterns associated with possible hypertension, but it does not produce a blood-pressure reading. A separate third-party blood-pressure cuff is required.
How long does Apple Watch hypertension analysis take?
The feature evaluates data over a 30-day period and requires at least 14 days of awake data in that window. It is not an instant alert based on one reading.
Does Low Power Mode affect hypertension notifications?
Yes. Low Power Mode disables the heart-data collection used for hypertension notifications. Turn it off when you want the watch to continue collecting data for the feature.
The Bottom Line
Apple Watch Series 11’s battery claim is a controlled “up to” figure: it is designed to cover a day plus sleep tracking, and a short fast-charge session can make a meaningful difference. Its hypertension feature is a long-term screening system, not a wrist blood-pressure monitor or diagnosis. Keep the watch on consistently, avoid unnecessary Low Power Mode use, and follow any notification with readings from a proper cuff and advice from a healthcare professional.
