Apple Watches work only with newer iPhones, Pixel and Galaxy watches are Android choices with some ecosystem-specific features, and Garmin remains the more flexible option for people who care more about training data and battery life than third-party apps.
These recommendations are based on current hands-on testing, with battery figures shown as tested results rather than manufacturer estimates. Before buying, check phone compatibility, cellular-plan costs, and whether the health features you want are available in your country.

Best smartwatch for iPhone users: Apple Watch Series 11
Why it wins: The Apple Watch Series 11 is the strongest all-round choice for iPhone owners. It earned a 4.5/5 rating in testing and lasted 43 hours, giving it enough endurance for a full day plus overnight sleep tracking for many users.
The watch runs watchOS 26 on Apple’s S10 chip and has a 2,000-nit wide-angle OLED display that remains easy to read outdoors. A 5G cellular option is available if you want calls, messages, and data away from your phone, although cellular service requires carrier activation and can add a monthly charge.

It seamlessly pairs with both iOS and Android devices, including Apple iPhone, Samsung, and Google Pixel. Enjoy total freedom from battery anxiety and stay connected effortlessly.
Health and safety features include hypertension notifications, but they should be treated as wellness and alerting tools rather than a diagnosis. Availability can depend on eligibility, country, and regulatory approval.
Important limitation: This is not an Android-compatible watch. Apple specifies an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later. If you use an Android phone, do not buy the Series 11 expecting basic pairing to work.
Best affordable Apple Watch: Apple Watch SE 3
Why it wins: The Apple Watch SE 3 delivers the core Apple Watch experience for less money. It earned 4.0/5 and its tested battery life reached 46 hours, slightly exceeding the Series 11 in the same testing. It uses the same S10 chip.
Unlike older budget Apple Watch models, the SE 3 includes an always-on display, wrist-temperature sensing, and on-device Siri. It also supports sleep-apnea detection and irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, subject to Apple’s feature restrictions and local availability. A 5G cellular version is offered.
Recommended Free Tools
The trade-off is that the SE 3 is not the most feature-rich health watch in Apple’s range. Buyers who want the brightest display, more advanced sensors, or the premium construction of the Ultra should move up the line. For notifications, workouts, sleep tracking, and Apple services, however, it is the better-value Apple pick.
Compatibility is the same as the Series 11: an iPhone 11 or newer with iOS 26 or newer. It does not pair with Android phones.
Best Android smartwatch: Samsung Galaxy Watch 8
Why it wins: The Galaxy Watch 8 is the most complete Android smartwatch for people who want apps, calls, health tracking, and Google services in a conventional smartwatch. It earned 4.0/5 and lasted 26 hours in testing.
It runs Wear OS with Samsung’s current One UI 8 Watch software, not the older One UI 4 designation sometimes attached to this model. The Exynos W1000 processor drives a screen rated at up to 3,000 nits, while Gemini adds voice-based assistance. Samsung also includes running and sleep AI coaching, ECG, body-composition measurements, sleep-apnea features, and tracking for antioxidant levels and vascular load.
Rank #2
- Designed with a bright, colorful AMOLED display, get a more complete picture of your health, thanks to battery life of up to 11 days in smartwatch mode
- Body Battery energy monitoring helps you understand when you’re charged up or need to rest, with even more personalized insights based on sleep, naps, stress levels, workouts and more (data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
- Get a sleep score and personalized sleep coaching for how much sleep you need — and get tips on how to improve plus key metrics such as HRV status to better understand your health (data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
- Find new ways to keep your body moving with more than 30 built-in indoor and GPS sports apps, including walking, running, cycling, HIIT, swimming, golf and more
- Wheelchair mode tracks pushes — rather than steps — and includes push and handcycle activities with preloaded workouts for strength, cardio, HIIT, Pilates and yoga, challenges specific to wheelchair users and more (data presented is intended to be a close estimation of metrics tracked)
The main drawback is endurance. A 26-hour tested result means you should expect frequent charging, particularly with the always-on display, GPS, LTE, or continuous health features enabled.
It requires Android 12 or later and can work with non-Samsung Android phones. However, feature parity is not guaranteed. Depending on the phone model, region, and software version, Samsung-specific restrictions can affect Running Coach and other AI coaching, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, phone-separation alerts, gesture controls, snore detection, and Camera Controller. Check Samsung’s compatibility information before assuming every feature will work on your phone.
Best affordable Android smartwatch: Samsung Galaxy Watch FE
Why it wins: The Galaxy Watch FE is a sensible lower-cost Android option with a 4.0/5 rating and 27 hours of tested battery life. It comes in one 40mm size, which keeps the buying decision simple but may not suit people who prefer a large watch.
It offers ECG, blood-oxygen monitoring, body-composition measurements, sleep tracking, and exercise tracking. You can choose Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE, but the LTE version still needs a compatible carrier plan and may incur an additional fee.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The FE makes the most sense for Android users who want Samsung’s health platform and Wear OS basics without paying for the Galaxy Watch 8. Its short battery life and smaller case are the main compromises. As with the Watch 8, some Samsung features may be limited when the watch is paired with a non-Samsung phone.
Best smartwatch for battery life: OnePlus Watch 3
Why it wins: The OnePlus Watch 3 lasted 98 hours in testing with the always-on display enabled, making it the clear endurance winner among these recommendations. It earned 4.0/5 and is a compelling choice for Android users who dislike charging every night.
Its unusual software arrangement helps explain the result: Wear OS 5 handles apps and smartwatch functions, while an RTOS takes over lower-power tasks. You get a modern app platform without giving up the long runtime associated with simpler fitness watches.
The decisive limitation is compatibility. The OnePlus Watch 3 requires Android and is not an option for iPhone owners. It is also worth remembering that a tested 98-hour result is not a guarantee for every setup. LTE use, GPS, frequent notifications, display settings, and health monitoring can all reduce runtime.

Best fitness-focused smartwatch: Garmin Venu Sq 2
Why it wins: The Garmin Venu Sq 2 is the pick for users who prioritize workouts, GPS, and long battery life over a large app ecosystem. It works with both Android and iOS, uses Garmin’s proprietary operating system, includes integrated GPS and Garmin Pay, and lasted up to nine days with light use in testing.
That endurance makes it easier to wear continuously for sleep and recovery tracking. It is also a better fit than most Wear OS and watchOS models for someone who wants to record regular outdoor activities without charging every day.
The Venu Sq 2 is less smartwatch-like than the Apple, Samsung, and Google alternatives. Its app selection and phone-integration features are more limited, and it is not the ideal choice if you want a wrist-based extension of your phone for messaging, voice assistants, and rich third-party apps. Choose it for training and reliable battery life, not for the most expansive software platform.
Best-designed smartwatch: Google Pixel Watch 4
Why it wins: The Pixel Watch 4 combines a distinctive domed display with useful Fitbit and Google features. It scored 4.0/5 and reached 56 hours with the always-on display enabled in testing.
It includes Wear OS, Gemini, dual-frequency GPS, and satellite emergency communication. Fitbit features include Readiness Score, Cardio Load, and Target Load, giving the watch a useful balance between everyday activity tracking and structured training.
Google’s official battery figures are more conservative than the tested result: up to 30 hours for the 41mm version and up to 40 hours for the 45mm version with the always-on display enabled. Manufacturer ratings and independent test results use different conditions, so neither should be treated as a universal promise.
The Pixel Watch 4 requires Android 11 or newer, the Google Pixel Watch app, a Google Account, and internet access. iPhones are not supported. Pixel-phone owners also get access to certain features that are not universal on other Android phones, including automatic call screening, Ask to Hold, and camera controls. Some features require Google Health, a Pixel phone, or a paid subscription. Google lists guaranteed software updates through at least October 2028.
Best outdoor smartwatch: Apple Watch Ultra 3
Why it wins: The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is the specialist choice for demanding outdoor use. Its titanium case, dual-frequency GPS, satellite text and Emergency SOS, and 63-hour tested battery life with the always-on display enabled make it much better suited to long days away from a charger than the standard Apple Watch.
Rank #4
- Watch JIU
It has WR100 water resistance, EN13319 diving certification, and supports recreational diving to 40 meters with the Oceanic+ app. Those specifications make it appropriate for more than casual pool workouts, although water resistance is not permanent and diving equipment should not be selected on watch specifications alone.
The Ultra 3 also offers 5G cellular connectivity. Satellite capabilities vary by country, network, feature, and emergency-service support, so check local availability before relying on them for remote travel.
It is a large, expensive watch for everyday wear and remains iPhone-only. Apple specifies an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later.
Best smartwatch for kids: Fitbit Ace LTE
Why it wins: The Fitbit Ace LTE is designed for children ages 7 to 11 rather than adults seeking a miniature fitness watch. It provides GPS and Google Maps location tracking, plus calling and texting limited to parent-approved trusted contacts.
Parents can use controls that disable games during school hours, making the watch more practical for families that want communication and location features without handing over a smartphone.
Before buying, check the associated service and subscription requirements, since connected location and communication features generally depend on an active service plan. The Ace LTE is a supervised family device, not an unrestricted messaging platform.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose the right smartwatch
1. Start with your phone
This is the quickest way to eliminate unsuitable models:
- iPhone: Choose the Apple Watch Series 11, SE 3, or Ultra 3. These models require an iPhone 11 or later running iOS 26 or later.
- Samsung Galaxy phone: The Galaxy Watch 8 or Watch FE gives you the broadest access to Samsung features.
- Other Android phone: Consider the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch FE, Pixel Watch 4, or OnePlus Watch 3, but verify feature restrictions first.
- Android and iOS flexibility: Garmin’s Venu Sq 2 is the safer choice among these picks.
2. Decide how often you are willing to charge
The battery gap is substantial. The OnePlus Watch 3 lasted 98 hours in testing, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 lasted 63 hours, and the Pixel Watch 4 lasted 56 hours. By contrast, the Galaxy Watch 8 reached 26 hours and the Galaxy Watch FE 27 hours. Garmin’s Venu Sq 2 lasted up to nine days with light use.

This 1.83 inches HD smartwatch is compatible with iPhone (iOS 9.0+) & Android (5.0+), ensuring smooth daily connectivity and convenience throughout your day. More than just a timepiece, it’s a stylish, all-in-one wearable for smarter, healthier living
GPS, LTE, always-on displays, music playback, and frequent health measurements reduce these numbers. If sleep tracking matters, a watch that lasts two or more days is usually easier to live with than one that needs nightly charging.
3. Treat cellular as an ongoing cost
An LTE or 5G watch can call, message, and use data away from the phone, but buying the cellular version is only the first expense. You need a compatible carrier plan, activation, and often an additional monthly fee. Confirm that the watch and carrier support the features you need in your country.
4. Match the watch to your activity
- For notifications, apps, and close phone integration, choose Apple, Samsung, or Google.
- For long battery life and workout tracking, choose Garmin or OnePlus.
- For diving, remote travel, and outdoor safety features, choose the Apple Watch Ultra 3.
- For child location and supervised communication, choose the Fitbit Ace LTE.
5. Do not buy based on a health feature alone
ECG, sleep-apnea detection, irregular-rhythm alerts, temperature sensing, blood-oxygen readings, hypertension notifications, and body-composition measurements can be useful, but they have eligibility, regulatory, and regional limitations. These functions do not turn a smartwatch into a medical diagnostic device. Read the manufacturer’s conditions and speak with a clinician about concerning results.
What we mean by battery life
The figures in this guide come from testing and are useful for comparing watches under a common review setup. They are not the same as official battery claims. Google, for example, rates the Pixel Watch 4 for up to 30 hours in the 41mm model and 40 hours in the 45mm model with always-on display enabled, while testing reached 56 hours.
Use the tested numbers as a relative guide, not a guarantee. Your result will vary with case size, LTE, GPS, screen brightness, notifications, workout frequency, temperature, and battery condition.
