The Apple Watch Series 11 42mm measures 42 × 36 × 9.7mm, weighs 29.7g to 34.6g depending on configuration, and has a 374 × 446-pixel always-on OLED display covering 989mm². It uses Apple’s S10 chip, includes 64GB of storage, and is rated for up to 24 hours of normal use or 38 hours in Low Power Mode.
Compatibility is a purchase-critical limitation: it requires an iPhone 11 or later, including the second-generation iPhone SE or later, running iOS 26 or later. It does not pair with Android phones. The 42mm version is available in aluminum GPS, aluminum GPS + Cellular, titanium GPS + Cellular, and Hermès titanium configurations.

“42mm” describes the height of the watch case, not the diagonal size of the screen. The actual case is 42mm high, 36mm wide, and 9.7mm deep. The display covers 989mm². Apple also sells a 46mm Series 11 with a larger 1,220mm² display.

The 42mm model is generally the better physical fit for smaller wrists or anyone who prefers a less prominent watch. It supports wrists from 130mm to 200mm, but the band itself has its own size range. Check the band’s listed compatibility and adjustment range rather than relying only on the case measurement.
42mm configurations, materials, colors, and weights
The 42mm Series 11 is not one identical product. Case material changes the front crystal, weight, color selection, and connectivity options.
| Configuration | Case and glass | Colors | Listed weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aluminum GPS | Aluminum case and back; Ion-X front glass | Rose Gold, Silver, Space Gray, Jet Black | 30.3g |
| Aluminum GPS + Cellular | Aluminum case and back; Ion-X front glass | Rose Gold, Silver, Space Gray, Jet Black | 29.7g |
| Titanium GPS + Cellular | Titanium case and back; sapphire front crystal | Gold, Natural, Slate | 34.6g |
| Hermès | Silver titanium case; sapphire crystal; GPS + Cellular | Hermès-specific configuration, branding, and bands | Varies by listed configuration |
Apple’s published aluminum GPS + Cellular figure is slightly lower than its aluminum GPS figure. Those are Apple’s official case weights; the band is not included, and a heavier band can noticeably change the weight on the wrist.
Recommended Free Tools
Aluminum models use Ion-X glass. Apple says the Series 11 Ion-X glass has twice the scratch resistance of the previous generation; that is an Apple comparison, not an independent durability guarantee. Titanium models use sapphire crystal, which is generally better suited to resisting everyday scratches, although sapphire is not unbreakable.
Display
- Always-on Retina LTPO3 wide-angle OLED display
- 374 × 446-pixel resolution
- 989mm² display area
- 326 pixels per inch
- Up to 2,000 nits peak brightness
- 1-nit minimum brightness
The always-on screen lets the watch remain glanceable without requiring a wrist raise for every check. The 42mm panel is smaller than the 46mm panel, so the larger model is preferable if large text, controls, or workout metrics are your priority.
Processor, storage, and controls
Series 11 uses Apple’s S10 SiP, with a 64-bit dual-core processor and four-core Neural Engine. It has 64GB of capacity. These specifications confirm the platform and storage, but they do not establish a specific real-world speed advantage over earlier Apple Watch models without independent benchmark evidence.
Controls and audio features include:
- Digital Crown with haptic feedback
- Side button
- Double Tap and Wrist Flick gestures
- Siri with on-device processing
- Microphone with Voice Isolation
- Speaker and media playback
Actual Siri capabilities can depend on watchOS, the paired iPhone, language, and feature availability. The Neural Engine alone should not be treated as a guarantee of every Apple Intelligence-related function.

The watch can provide compass bearing, incline, elevation, and coordinates, plus custom waypoints, automatically generated waypoints to cellular connectivity, and Backtrack. Offline maps support custom route creation. Apple lists topographic maps for thousands of national and regional parks in the United States and curated hikes across all 63 U.S. national parks; mapping content and availability are not global by default.
Cycling
Cycling metrics include average speed, elevation gained, distance, cadence, Functional Threshold Power, and Power Zones. The watch supports Bluetooth cycling accessories and can surface cycling information through Live Activity on iPhone.
Other workouts
Supported workout categories include multisport, swimming, skiing, snowboarding, outdoor rowing, paddling, golf, walking, elliptical, rower, Stair Stepper, HIIT, yoga, functional strength training, dance, cooldown, core training, Pilates, Tai Chi, wheelchair workouts, kickboxing, and other activities.
Supported workout modes are not independent evidence of tracking accuracy. GPS performance can vary indoors, in dense cities, in mountainous terrain, and when the watch is operating without the iPhone.

These are controlled “up to” results from pre-production testing, not a guaranteed runtime. Cellular use, weak signal conditions, GPS workouts, music streaming, display behavior, settings, software, and temperature can reduce endurance. The Series 11 is better suited to overnight sleep tracking than Apple Watch generations with shorter ratings, but it still requires frequent charging compared with many sports watches.
Fast-charge figures use Apple’s magnetic fast-charging cable and a 20W USB-C power adapter in Apple’s testing. The watch box includes the cable, but the power adapter may not be included.
Water resistance, dust protection, and durability
- Water resistance: 50 meters; Apple describes the watch as swimproof.
- Dust resistance: IP6X.
- Depth gauge: up to 6 meters.
- Water temperature: measured by the built-in water-temperature sensor.
A 50-meter rating is not permission to dive to 50 meters. Swimproof is not the same as waterproof or suitable for scuba or technical diving. Follow Apple’s water-resistance guidance before using the watch in high-speed water sports, saunas, or around chemicals. The depth gauge and water-temperature sensor are relevant to shallow-water activities, not a replacement for a dedicated dive computer.
Connectivity and model identification
All Series 11 models support Wi‑Fi 4 (802.11n) on 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Bluetooth 5.3, L1 GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, Apple Pay, and GymKit.
Cellular models additionally support RedCap 5G, LTE, selected FDD and TDD bands, Apple Watch For Your Kids, and international roaming where supported. Cellular service requires an eligible carrier plan—usually with the same carrier as the paired iPhone—and may add a monthly cost. Coverage, roaming, and family-use support vary by country and carrier.
Apple lists these 42mm model identifiers:
- GPS: A3331 in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific; A3450 in mainland China.
- GPS + Cellular aluminum or titanium: A3335 in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific; A3452 in mainland China.
Use Apple’s regional model-identification page rather than relying only on a retailer listing.

42mm Series 11 versus the alternatives
42mm versus 46mm Series 11
Choose 42mm for a smaller wrist, lower case mass, a more discreet profile, or a compact everyday watch. Choose 46mm for the largest standard display and easier reading of workout data. The core chip, storage, sensors, and headline battery rating are broadly shared, while physical size and display area differ.
Series 11 versus Series 10
Use Apple’s official comparison page for the current side-by-side specification set. The practical question is whether Series 11’s updated battery rating, materials, features, and compatibility justify replacing a Series 10 that still meets your needs. Do not assume every difference is a meaningful real-world performance gain.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSeries 11 versus Apple Watch SE 3
The SE 3 is the lower-cost route to Apple Watch notifications, activity tracking, and basic smartwatch functions. Series 11 is the better fit if you specifically need its always-on brighter display, broader health-sensor suite, temperature sensing, ECG-related features, sleep-related notifications, or longer official battery rating. Confirm the current SE 3 specifications on Apple’s comparison page before buying.
Series 11 versus Ultra 3
The Series 11 suits everyday health and fitness in a smaller, lighter standard-watch design. Ultra 3 is aimed at readers who prioritize a larger 49mm case, rugged outdoor positioning, and longer endurance. The 42mm Series 11 should not be treated as a direct replacement for the Ultra’s multi-day, expedition, or diving-oriented use cases.
Which 42mm version should you buy?
- Lowest cost: Aluminum GPS, if your iPhone is normally with you.
- Lightest listed case: Aluminum GPS + Cellular at Apple’s stated 29.7g, though verify the exact retail configuration.
- Best scratch resistance: Titanium with sapphire crystal, accepting the higher cost and 34.6g listed weight.
- Independent connectivity: GPS + Cellular, provided your carrier supports Apple Watch and you accept the recurring plan cost.
- Premium materials: Titanium or Hermès titanium.
- Family use: A supported cellular configuration, carrier, country, and Apple Watch For Your Kids setup are all required.
- Sleep tracking: Any 42mm Series 11 configuration can track sleep; fast charging can make overnight use easier, but real endurance varies.
For current configuration availability, regional pricing, bands, AppleCare+, and accessories, use Apple’s official buying page. Prices, coverage terms, carrier support, and stock can change by country and date.
Environmental specifications
Apple reports that Series 11 contains 40% recycled content, including recycled aluminum or titanium, recycled cobalt and lithium in the battery, recycled rare earth elements in magnets, recycled gold plating and tin solder in Apple-designed circuit boards, recycled tungsten in the Taptic Engine, and recycled glass in the display. Apple also reports renewable electricity in manufacturing and fiber-based packaging. These are manufacturer-reported claims; see Apple’s product environmental report for the stated details.
