Design: familiar shape, larger screen

Apple said Series 7 had nearly 20% more display area than Series 6, with borders measuring 1.7mm. Apple also reported more than 50% greater display area than Series 3. These are Apple’s published comparisons, not independent test results.

The Always-On Retina display was up to 70% brighter indoors than Series 6 with the wrist down, according to Apple. The larger interface enabled the Contour and Modular Duo faces and a QWERTY keyboard with QuickPath swipe typing.
What the larger display enables

The keyboard can help with short replies and searches, but it is not a comfortable replacement for an iPhone for longer messages.
Durability, dust resistance, and water resistance
Apple described Series 7 as its most durable Apple Watch at launch. Apple said its redesigned front crystal was over 50% thicker than Series 6’s and designed for greater crack resistance. It is not unbreakable.

Series 7 was the first Apple Watch with an IP6X dust-resistance rating. Damage, aging seals, and repairs can affect a watch’s resistance.
What 50-meter water resistance means
Series 7 has a 50-meter water-resistance rating and is intended for shallow-water activities such as swimming. Apple says it is not suitable for scuba diving, waterskiing, high-velocity water, or submersion below shallow depth. Water resistance may diminish over time and can be affected by damage or opening the case.
Health and fitness features
Series 7 includes sensors and software features for activity tracking, workouts, and health-related measurements.
ECG and heart monitoring
The watch has an electrical heart sensor and supports the ECG app and irregular-rhythm notifications, subject to eligibility, compatible software, setup, and regional availability. These are not diagnostic tools and do not replace medical care.

Series 7 includes a Blood Oxygen sensor and app. Apple says measurements are for general fitness and wellness, not medical use. Availability may vary by region, and readings can be affected by fit, movement, skin contact, and other factors.
Workouts and activity tracking
Series 7 supports activity and workout tracking, including heart-rate monitoring. Launch-era software features included Pilates, Tai Chi, Mindfulness, and cycling-related workout features. Treat the watch as a fitness and wellness companion, not a clinical monitoring device.
Battery life and charging
Apple rated Series 7 for up to 18 hours of battery life and claimed charging was up to 33% faster than Series 6 with the Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable. These are Apple’s launch specifications; actual battery life and charging vary with use, coverage, configuration, settings, and battery condition.
Replacing the charging cable
Apple listed a 1m Magnetic Fast Charger USB-C Cable in the box. If buying a replacement, check that the listing identifies the compatible cable or accessory and confirm what is included. A separate USB-C power adapter is not listed in Apple’s box contents. Do not assume every third-party dock supports fast charging.

GPS versus GPS + Cellular
Apple sold Series 7 in GPS and GPS + Cellular configurations.
- GPS: Uses a paired iPhone for connected functions; offline capabilities depend on app and setup.
- GPS + Cellular: Can support selected calls, messages, and data away from the iPhone when activated with a supported carrier plan. Coverage and availability depend on carrier, network, and region.
iPhone compatibility
Apple’s technical specifications state that Apple Watch requires an iPhone 6s or later with the latest iOS version. Requirements can depend on the watchOS version being used. Check Apple’s current compatibility guidance before pairing or buying a Series 7; this guide does not establish a current watchOS ceiling or specific present-day iPhone requirement.
Apple Watch Series 7 band compatibility
Apple said previously released Apple Watch bands are compatible with Series 7. Choose a band listing that explicitly matches the watch’s case-size family and confirm its stated compatibility before ordering. A leather band is not the same choice as a sport band for swimming or workouts.
A replacement band does not improve water resistance or protect the display. A screen protector cannot guarantee protection against cracking, water ingress, or dust exposure.
