The June 2024 CAD renders described as an “Apple Watch X” showed a larger Apple Watch with an approximately 2-inch display. Apple ultimately released the watch as Apple Watch Series 10, with 42mm and 46mm case sizes and its largest Apple Watch display at launch. The screen-size prediction was directionally right; the “X” name and the leak’s exact diagonal were not confirmed.
What the leaked Apple Watch renders showed
Published by 91mobiles on June 26, 2024, the CAD-based report depicted a familiar rounded-square Apple Watch with a larger-looking display, a Digital Crown and side button in their usual positions, and a reported case measuring approximately 46 × 39.7 × 11.6 mm. The report described the display as roughly 2 inches and suggested the watch would be larger than the then-current 45mm Series 9.
The images suggested a refinement of the established Apple Watch shape, not the radical redesign some anniversary rumors anticipated. They did not clearly show a new magnetic band connector. CAD renders can indicate external shape and dimensions, but they cannot establish final materials, display performance, battery capacity, sensors, software, or the retail name. Why people called it Apple Watch X
“Apple Watch X” was a rumor-era label tied to speculation about a redesign for the watch’s tenth-anniversary period. Reports differed over whether Apple would adopt that name or continue its Series numbering. Apple announced Apple Watch Series 10 on September 9, 2024—not Apple Watch X. What Apple actually launched
Series 10 came in 42mm and 46mm case sizes. Apple described it as its thinnest Apple Watch yet and said it had the largest and most advanced Apple Watch display at launch. The display uses wide-angle OLED technology. For the 46mm model, Apple’s technical specifications list a display area of 1,220 square millimeters.
Apple measured the improvement by active screen area: up to 9% more than Series 7, Series 8, and Series 9, and up to 30% more than Series 4, Series 5, and Series 6. Those are Apple’s comparisons, not a confirmation of the leak’s approximate 2-inch diagonal. The 46mm figure is the case size, not the display’s diagonal. Apple also announced sleep apnea notifications, faster charging, water-depth and water-temperature sensing, and new health and fitness insights with watchOS 11. The announcement listed aluminum and titanium case options. These are launch-confirmed features; they should not be inferred from the earlier renders.

Overall, the leak was directionally accurate about a larger display and a 46mm mainstream model. That does not mean every measurement or rumor attached to it was verified.
What a larger screen changes in everyday use
A larger display can make the watch easier to read and give apps more room. Apple said Series 10 can show an additional line of text or display larger fonts without giving up as much content. In practice, the extra space is most relevant to people who often check messages, notifications, workout metrics, maps, or complications on their wrist.
- Text and notifications: More room can reduce the need to scroll through short items or reach for an iPhone.
- Complications and workouts: A larger interface can make information easier to scan, especially when a watch face or workout view is information-dense.
- Accessibility: The screen area may be useful if you increase text size or prefer larger on-screen controls.
- On-screen interactions: More space can help with tasks such as entering a passcode or interacting with apps, though the renders alone say nothing about real-world performance.
Screen area is only one part of comfort. A larger case may be more visually prominent or less comfortable on a smaller wrist; fit also depends on case geometry, thickness, weight, strap, and wrist circumference.

Is Series 10 an alternative to Apple Watch Ultra?
Not just because of display size. The leak compared display diagonals, not total case size or rugged capability. Series 10 is the thinner mainstream design, while Ultra is the relevant line for buyers prioritizing rugged construction, outdoor-oriented features, and battery capacity. A large display does not by itself make a Series watch an Ultra replacement.

- Battery life or capacity: An external CAD view does not establish either.
- Health sensors: The images could not verify sensors or turn rumored blood-pressure monitoring into a confirmed feature.
- Band attachment and compatibility: No clear magnetic mechanism appeared in the renders. Do not assume a new connector—or assume incompatibility—on that basis. Check Apple’s compatibility information for the exact Series 10 size and band before buying accessories.
- Display quality: A claimed diagonal does not establish brightness, durability, refresh behavior, or legibility in everyday conditions.
- Final materials, colors, and software: These require launch specifications, not an exterior render.
Who should care about the larger display?
Owners of older Apple Watches
People moving from Series 4 through Series 6 have the largest stated screen-area comparison to consider: Apple said Series 10 offers up to 30% more active area than those generations. Whether that makes an upgrade worthwhile still depends on fit, features, and how often you use the screen.
Series 7, 8, or 9 owners
The stated screen-area increase is smaller—up to 9% over these models. The larger display may matter if you regularly want more text or information visible, but the leak alone is not a reason to expect a dramatic change in every use.

Ultra owners and prospective buyers
Consider the Ultra for its rugged and outdoor-oriented role, rather than choosing by display diagonal alone. Consider Series 10 when a thinner everyday watch with a large display better matches your priorities.
People choosing a first Apple Watch or concerned about fit
Try the case size on your wrist if possible. The 46mm label describes the case, not the screen, and a larger display does not guarantee a comfortable fit. Check the exact model and band compatibility before purchasing accessories; the 2024 renders do not settle that question.
