The “Apple Watch X” did not launch. “Tomorrow” referred to Apple’s September 9, 2024 event, and the product Apple unveiled was the Apple Watch Series 10. It became available on September 20, 2024.
The anniversary rumors were partly right: Series 10 brought a thinner case, larger displays, new 42mm and 46mm sizes, a new titanium option, faster charging, sleep-apnea notifications, and depth and water-temperature sensing. It did not bring blood-pressure monitoring, a radical new shape, or a complete Apple Watch platform reset.
First, the name and date need correcting
“Apple Watch X” was speculative branding. The name referred to the tenth anniversary of the Apple Watch’s 2014 introduction, but Apple continued its established naming system and announced Apple Watch Series 10.
The original headline also used “tomorrow” because it was written for the period immediately before Apple’s September 9, 2024 event. In a current buying guide, the useful product name is Apple Watch Series 10—not Apple Watch X—and its launch date was September 20, 2024.

Series 10 was announced in GPS and GPS + Cellular configurations, with 42mm and 46mm cases in aluminum or titanium. Availability, pricing, and stock can vary by country and retailer, so those details should be checked before buying.

The biggest confirmed upgrades
1. A thinner 9.7mm case
Apple described Series 10 as its thinnest Apple Watch yet. The technical specifications list a 9.7mm case depth for both the 42mm and 46mm versions. Apple says that is nearly 10 percent thinner than Series 7, Series 8, and Series 9.
The reduction was not attributed to a single component. Apple pointed to the S10 system-in-package and a redesigned metal back that integrates the antenna into the housing. The practical benefit is a watch that should sit less prominently on the wrist, particularly during sleep tracking or under a shirt cuff.
This is a meaningful physical redesign, but it is not a complete replacement for the Apple Watch form factor. The familiar interface, band-attachment system, and overall rectangular watch shape remain.
2. Larger displays in new 42mm and 46mm sizes
Series 10 moved the standard Apple Watch range to 42mm and 46mm case sizes. The larger dimensions allowed Apple to increase screen area without making the case grow in direct proportion.

Apple also used a wider aspect ratio and rounded corners. The result is more room for text, complications, workout information, and messages while keeping the watch recognizable as an Apple Watch.
Choose the 42mm model if a smaller, lighter wrist presence is more important. The 46mm version is the better fit for readers who prioritize readability and maximum on-screen information. Case size should also be considered when buying replacement bands and protective accessories.
3. The S10 SiP and on-device processing
Series 10 uses Apple’s S10 SiP, with a 64-bit dual-core processor and four-core Neural Engine. Apple connected the platform with on-device Siri processing, dictation, automatic workout detection, Double Tap, Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and watchOS 11 capabilities.

4. Sleep-apnea notifications
Sleep-apnea notifications were one of the most important health additions associated with Series 10. The watch analyzes breathing-disturbance data over sequential 30-day periods. If the pattern shows signs consistent with sleep apnea, it can notify the wearer and encourage medical follow-up.
This feature needs to be described carefully:
- It is a notification and screening aid, not a diagnosis.
- It does not replace a sleep study, physician evaluation, or treatment.
- Apple’s support guidance says users generally need at least 10 nights of data within a 30-day period.
- It is intended for adults who have not already been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
- Regulatory authorization and availability vary by country or region.
Apple said the feature received FDA 510(k) clearance and additional authorizations before expanding to more than 150 countries and regions. That regulatory status does not mean the watch diagnoses sleep apnea; it means the feature can identify patterns that warrant attention under its authorized use.
Consistent overnight wear is therefore central to the feature. A user who removes the watch most nights will not produce the amount of data the notification system is designed to analyze.

5. Faster charging instead of longer rated battery life
Series 10 retained Apple’s 18-hour all-day battery rating. There was no battery-life revolution. The improvement was charging speed.
Under Apple’s stated test conditions, Series 10 can reach 80 percent charge in about 30 minutes. Apple also says a 15-minute charge can provide up to eight hours of normal use or up to eight hours of sleep tracking.
Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent battery-test results. Actual endurance depends on cellular use, workouts, notifications, screen activity, environmental conditions, and other settings. For sleep tracking, faster charging is particularly useful: a short charge while getting ready for bed or in the morning can make it easier to keep the watch worn overnight.
6. Depth gauge and water-temperature sensor
Series 10 added a depth gauge and water-temperature sensor. Apple positioned them for shallow-water activities such as pool swimming and snorkeling.
The maximum operating depth listed for Series 10 is 6 meters. The Depth app is not a scuba-diving computer. Apple warns against using the watch for scuba diving, waterskiing, and high-velocity water activities.

That distinction matters. The new sensors make Series 10 more useful for recreational surface-water activities, but they do not turn it into specialized dive equipment. Anyone planning deeper or high-impact water activities should use equipment designed and rated for that purpose.
7. Titanium replaces stainless steel
The premium material option changed. Series 10 offered aluminum and polished Grade 5 titanium; titanium replaced stainless steel in the standard premium-material lineup.

- Aluminum: jet black, rose gold, and silver.
- Titanium: natural, gold, and slate.
Apple said the titanium models were almost 20 percent lighter than Series 9 stainless-steel models, while aluminum Series 10 models weighed up to 10 percent less than Series 9 aluminum models. The exact experience depends on case size and configuration, but the material change combines a premium finish with lower weight than the previous stainless-steel comparison.
When choosing a band, specify the case-size family rather than buying a generic Apple Watch strap. Search for Apple Watch Series 10 bands, then confirm whether the band fits the 42mm or 46mm connector family and whether the manufacturer explicitly lists compatibility.
8. Voice isolation and media playback from the speaker
Series 10 added voice isolation for phone and FaceTime audio calls. Apple says a neural network helps reduce background noise so the wearer’s voice is easier to hear.
The speaker system was also redesigned to support media playback. That is a useful convenience for short audio clips or other situations where headphones are not practical, but Apple’s product claim should not be confused with an independent assessment of speaker loudness or sound quality.
What watchOS 11 adds—and what is not exclusive to Series 10
Some of the most visible improvements launched alongside Series 10 but are software features rather than Series 10-only hardware upgrades. watchOS 11 introduced:
- Vitals: a way to review overnight health metrics and identify changes from typical ranges.
- Training load: additional context for evaluating workout intensity and recovery.
- A more intelligent Smart Stack: more relevant information and suggestions based on context.
- Expanded Activity-ring controls: greater flexibility for rest days and schedule changes.
- Translate: the Translate app on the watch.
Sleep-apnea notifications are also not exclusive to Series 10 hardware; Apple made the feature available on Apple Watch models with the S9 SiP as well, subject to software, regulatory, and regional requirements. That makes the health feature less compelling as a standalone reason to replace a recent compatible Apple Watch.
Rumors that did not become Series 10 launch features
Blood-pressure monitoring
Blood-pressure monitoring was widely discussed before Apple’s event, but it did not appear among Apple’s official Series 10 launch features or technical specifications. It should be treated as a delayed or unconfirmed rumor, not as a Series 10 capability.

Pre-event reporting also suggested that Apple’s hypertension work faced reliability or development challenges. The confirmed product does not provide a basis for claiming that it measures blood pressure or detects hypertension.

Apple did not use the anniversary name. The official product is Apple Watch Series 10. “Apple Watch X” is useful only when discussing the pre-launch rumor cycle.
A radical redesign, microLED, glucose monitoring, or a new band system
Series 10’s thinner case, larger displays, new sizes, and titanium option constitute a substantial update. They do not amount to a completely new shape or interface.
Claims about microLED, glucose monitoring, or a new band system were not part of Apple’s Series 10 announcement materials reviewed for this article. They should not be presented as Series 10 features without separate, dated evidence.

Series 10 makes the most sense for a buyer who wants the current capabilities of the 2024 standard Apple Watch design and values a thinner case, larger display, fast charging, titanium, or shallow-water sensors.
It is a particularly clear upgrade from an older Apple Watch if you want:
- more screen area without moving to an entirely different product line;
- a thinner and lighter-feeling case;
- sleep-apnea notifications, where available and appropriate;
- faster charging for sleep tracking;
- depth and water-temperature data for permitted shallow-water activities;
- the choice of polished titanium.
The case for upgrading from Series 9 or another S9-equipped model is narrower. Sleep-apnea notifications and much of watchOS 11 are not Series 10-exclusive, while the headline improvements are primarily physical design, charging, materials, and water-related sensors.
If you are comparing models, decide in this order:
- Check regional health-feature availability. Do not buy based on sleep-apnea notifications until the feature is supported where you live and you understand its screening-only purpose.
- Choose 42mm or 46mm. Prioritize wrist fit and comfort, then screen readability.
- Choose aluminum or titanium. Aluminum is the lighter, simpler option; titanium is the premium-material choice.
- Choose GPS or GPS + Cellular. Cellular is relevant if you want supported communication and connectivity away from your iPhone and carrier terms allow it.
- Budget for charging and protection. Confirm the charger supports Series 10 fast charging. If you use a case or screen protector, verify exact 42mm/46mm compatibility and remember that third-party protection is not an Apple recommendation.
For a purchase comparison, search for the Apple Watch Series 10 in the desired case size and configuration. Check the seller, warranty, regional model, current price, and stock rather than relying on launch pricing from September 2024.
