Apple is reportedly developing smart glasses, AirPods with cameras, and an AI pendant or pin, but none has been officially announced for sale. The latest reported targets for the glasses and camera-equipped AirPods are late 2027; the pendant’s timing is less certain. For US buyers, “arriving soon” should not mean an imminent or guaranteed launch.

Confidence here describes the strength and specificity of public reporting, not the likelihood that Apple will ship a product. Prototypes and testing can precede a delay, redesign, or cancellation.
Are the products real, or just speculation?
There is credible reporting that Apple is working on all three form factors. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has described them as active projects based on people familiar with Apple’s plans. That is stronger evidence than a patent filing alone, but it is not equivalent to Apple confirming a finished product.
The strongest reported maturity signal is for the camera-equipped AirPods: Bloomberg said prototypes had reached advanced testing and a near-final design. Even late-stage testing does not establish that a product will ship. Apple has not published final names, prices, specifications, compatibility requirements, or launch dates for any of the three in its cited public announcements.

What Apple’s smart glasses may be
Current reporting points more toward lightweight, camera-and-audio AI glasses than a full augmented-reality headset. They are often compared with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses: a wearable that could capture images, play audio, handle calls, and let the user interact with an assistant without taking out an iPhone. Some coverage uses the codename N50, but that is a reported internal label, not confirmed consumer branding. MacRumors, February 17, 2026
Potential capabilities discussed in reporting include cameras for photos or video, microphones and speakers, iPhone connectivity, and Siri assistance informed by what the wearer is looking at. Navigation, object recognition, translation, or questions about nearby things are plausible use cases, not confirmed features.
That category distinction matters: the rumored glasses should not be treated as a smaller Vision Pro. Reporting describes a product focused on everyday AI, audio, and cameras, not a confirmed display-equipped spatial-computing headset. A display, if one were included in a final product, would materially change the category; Apple has not announced such specifications.
The schedule has also moved. Earlier reporting pointed to a possible end-of-2026 or early-2027 arrival, while later reporting put the expected consumer release in late 2027. Bloomberg Law’s earlier 2026 report should therefore not be read as the latest target.

What camera-equipped AirPods may add
Reports describe cameras or infrared sensors near the earbuds, intended to sense nearby surroundings and provide context to Siri or an Apple Intelligence experience. The proposed advantage is hands-free visual assistance: a wearer might ask about an object or place without lifting a phone, then hear a response through the earbuds.
Potential uses include contextual help while walking, commuting, shopping, exercising, or working. Audio descriptions could also be useful to some people who benefit from spoken information about their surroundings, but no accessibility feature set has been announced.
Bloomberg’s report of advanced testing is a meaningful sign of development, not a guarantee of release. A later report placed the expected timing around late 2027. Apple has not confirmed camera placement, resolution, whether both earbuds would have sensors, whether they could record conventional video, battery life, price, or a product name. “AirPods Ultra” is not an established official name.
What the AI pendant or pin may be
The reported concept is a small wearable with cameras and microphones that could be pinned to clothing or worn on a lanyard or necklace. It may appeal to people who want environmental sensing without wearing glasses. One report describes a possible pendant or pin concept, but it does not establish a final design or a shipping product. The idea appears to be an accessory to an iPhone and possibly AirPods, rather than a phone replacement: a sensor and interface that could give Siri visual context. Of the three rumored devices, the pendant has the least specific public launch evidence. Its name, price, operating system, battery arrangement, and release timing are not established.
How the devices could fit together
The reports suggest an ecosystem strategy rather than three unrelated gadgets. Glasses could provide a visible, hands-free camera-and-audio interface; a pendant could offer a less conspicuous sensor; camera-equipped AirPods could combine audio with environmental sensing. The iPhone may handle connectivity, apps, account identity, and some computing, while Siri or Apple Intelligence provides the conversational layer.
Apple has publicly outlined a next-generation direction for Apple Intelligence and Siri, but that software announcement does not confirm these specific devices or their rumored functions. Apple’s June 2026 announcement establishes the software direction, not a hardware launch plan. The exact division of processing between a wearable, iPhone, and online services is unknown.

- Final product names, prices, release dates, preorder dates, designs, camera specifications, or battery life.
- Whether the pendant will ship, which iPhone models would be compatible, or whether advanced AI features would require a subscription or work offline.
- Whether all features would be available in the US at launch; regional availability could depend on language, services, or other constraints.
Should you wait or buy something now?
If you specifically want Apple-branded visual AI wearables and already have usable earbuds, waiting for an official announcement is more sensible than buying based on a rumored timetable. A late-2027 target is still only a reported target, and first-generation hardware can involve trade-offs in price, battery life, reliability, and software support.

If you need a product now, choose based on the job you need done rather than treating current devices as substitutes for unreleased Apple hardware:
- For premium earbuds now: AirPods Pro 3 are listed at $249 on Apple’s US buying page. Apple describes features including active noise cancellation, hearing-related tools, workout heart-rate sensing, Siri interactions, and Live Translation with supported devices, languages, and regions. None of the three rumored Apple products has an official Apple US preorder page in the cited sources. Be wary of unofficial listings presented as preorders for unreleased products.

Privacy and recording
Any wearable camera and microphone raises questions beyond the wearer’s convenience: whether bystanders can tell when recording is happening, whether workplaces or venues permit the device, and how captured data is stored or processed. Schools, hospitals, government buildings, and private venues may have their own restrictions. Apple’s privacy reputation does not remove those risks; recording indicators, consent practices, and data handling for these rumored products are not yet known.
Battery, connectivity, and dependence on an iPhone
Cameras, microphones, wireless connections, and AI features all draw power. An iPhone could take on some computing work, but that may make a wearable less useful when the phone is out of range, disconnected, or out of battery. Weak network service, Siri outages, incompatible hardware, or regional feature limits could also interrupt a connected experience. Apple has not specified the required iPhone generation or whether the devices would work independently.

Accuracy and safety
A visual assistant could misread text or misidentify an object, person, food, medicine, or location. Any future wearable should be treated as an aid, not an authority: verify information independently, especially for medical, emergency, legal, or other safety-critical decisions.
Social fit and first-generation trade-offs
Glasses may be unobtrusive in some settings and unwelcome in others; a small pendant could be less obvious, while a camera-equipped earbud may be difficult for bystanders to recognize as a camera. More broadly, an initial release could be expensive, have limited battery life or third-party app support, or improve quickly in a later generation. Those are risks to weigh if and when Apple announces a product, not specifications known today.
What “soon” means for a US buyer
As of August 18, 2026, none of these products is available to order from Apple’s US store. If the late-2027 reports prove accurate, that would put the glasses and camera AirPods roughly 12–18 months away from this article’s date, not around the corner. The pendant’s timing is less definite. Even an announcement in 2027 would not by itself guarantee simultaneous US availability or that every AI feature would be enabled at launch.
