Apple has not announced an AI pendant, camera-equipped AirPods or smart glasses. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is accelerating work on all three categories, with the glasses reportedly the most advanced and potentially targeted for release in 2027. The pendant and AirPods remain less certain projects with no confirmed names, prices, specifications or launch dates.

The short version

Reported product Intended role iPhone relationship Reported timing Confidence
Smart glasses Camera, audio and Siri in an everyday eyewear form factor Expected to rely heavily on the iPhone Production possibly as early as December 2026; public release reportedly targeted for 2027 Highest of the three, but still unconfirmed
AI pendant or pin Voice-first, camera-equipped assistant worn on a necklace or clothing Reportedly designed as an iPhone accessory No firm public date Uncertain
Camera-equipped AirPods Visual context for Siri and other ambient AI features Likely to use the iPhone for connectivity and processing No confirmed date Uncertain

The central report comes from Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with Apple’s plans. Apple has not confirmed that any of these products will ship.

What Apple is reportedly building

Smart glasses

Apple’s reported glasses would be closer to camera-equipped smart eyewear than to a fully immersive Vision Pro-style headset. The expected hardware includes microphones, speakers and a camera for photographs and video. Secondary coverage of the Bloomberg report also describes a possible second camera or visual-sensing system intended to help Siri understand the wearer’s surroundings.

That could allow a user to ask Siri about a nearby object, read a sign, identify a scene or translate visible text without taking out an iPhone. These are plausible applications of the reported architecture, not confirmed Apple features.

A built-in 290mAh battery delivers long-lasting power for full-day use, fitting perfectly with all scenes of daily life, work and outdoor adventures.

The glasses are reportedly being designed with Apple frames and lenses rather than as a partnership using an established eyewear brand. They would likely compete most directly with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which already combine cameras, speakers, microphones and Meta AI in a commercially available product.

Bloomberg-based reporting gives the glasses the clearest timeline: production could begin as early as December 2026, with public availability targeted for 2027. “As early as” is important. It describes a reported internal target, not a shipping commitment.

The AI pendant or pin

The pendant is reportedly a small device roughly comparable in size to an AirTag. It could be worn around the neck or attached to clothing, with cameras, microphones and potentially a speaker for voice conversations.

Unlike the Humane AI Pin, the reported Apple concept would not appear to be a phone replacement. It is described as an iPhone accessory, meaning the phone could provide connectivity, processing, access to apps and a richer interface. The pendant is also reported to omit the AI Pin’s display and laser projector.

That distinction could make the concept more practical: Apple would not need to fit a complete smartphone, cellular connection and visual interface into a tiny wearable. But it also creates a limitation. A screenless device that depends on an iPhone must offer a compelling reason to use it instead of existing AirPods, an Apple Watch or simply speaking to the phone.

The pendant’s reported camera may support ambient or context-aware assistance, but it is not known whether a final product would have an always-on camera. Apple has not disclosed how such a device would be activated, what it would record or where visual information would be processed.

Camera-equipped AirPods

Apple is also reportedly exploring AirPods with low-resolution cameras or infrared and other visual sensors. The likely purpose would not be conventional photography. Instead, the sensors could give Siri information about what the wearer is seeing or facing.

Potential uses include asking for a description of nearby surroundings, receiving hands-free translation or interacting with visual information while keeping a phone in a pocket. Reports have mentioned live translation as a possibility, but language support, availability and launch timing are unknown.

The idea would introduce significant engineering challenges. Cameras, microphones, wireless connectivity and AI workloads could affect earbud size, comfort, heat, battery life and charging-case capacity. The project is reportedly in development, but no final sensor design or product configuration has been confirmed.

Siri is the key to all three products

These devices make sense only if Siri becomes substantially more capable. The reported strategy depends on an assistant that can combine voice input, visual information, iPhone context and natural-language responses.

For example, the user might ask a short question while walking through a noisy environment. Siri would need to identify the speaker, understand the request, interpret camera data, use relevant information from the iPhone and respond quickly through a speaker or connected device. That is a much harder task than answering a basic timer or weather query.

Coverage has connected the wearable push to Apple’s broader Siri overhaul and to reports that Apple is working with Google Gemini models. Those are separate claims, however. Apple has not confirmed that Gemini will power every relevant Siri function, nor has it announced a model, implementation or launch schedule for these products.

While the all-in-one button enables seamless control of power/flashlight/answering/hanging up/playing/pausing and wake-up the voice assistant —all with intuitive presses.

The practical risk is straightforward: better cameras and smaller hardware cannot compensate for an assistant that misunderstands commands, responds slowly, fails without a strong connection or cannot reliably distinguish private conversations from background speech.

Apple versus Meta

Category Apple’s reported approach Meta Ray-Ban approach
Hardware Apple-designed smart-glasses frames Ray-Ban-branded frames developed with EssilorLuxottica
Assistant Siri Meta AI
Camera role Photos and video plus visual context for Siri Photos, video, calls, audio and AI features
Ecosystem Likely centered on iPhone and Apple services Meta’s app and account ecosystem
Status Unannounced development project Commercially available product line

Apple’s potential advantage would be tight hardware and software integration. The iPhone could handle connectivity, processing and personal context while the wearable provides cameras, microphones and speakers.

Meta’s advantage is more immediate: it already sells smart glasses, has distribution through an established eyewear partner and is collecting real-world feedback from users. Apple would enter with a premium brand and a large ecosystem, but it would not have the benefit of being first to market in this category.

OpenAI’s reported hardware work, involving former Apple design chief Jony Ive and other former Apple employees, adds another competitive pressure. The details of that effort remain uncertain, but it reinforces the broader industry push to move AI beyond phone screens.

Is Apple’s pendant another Humane AI Pin?

The comparison is useful because both concepts involve a small, screenless, voice-first wearable with a camera and microphone. Both aim to provide assistance without requiring the user to look at a phone.

The reported Apple design is nevertheless different in a crucial way. The pendant would be an iPhone accessory rather than a standalone computer. It would reportedly avoid the AI Pin’s projector and would be able to rely on the iPhone for connectivity, processing and a familiar interface.

That may reduce the technical burden, but it does not eliminate the product question: why should someone wear a separate camera and microphone when AirPods, Apple Watch and iPhone already cover much of the same ground? Apple would need to make the pendant materially faster, more convenient or more context-aware than those existing devices.

The biggest unanswered questions

Privacy and recording controls

Camera wearables raise privacy questions for both the wearer and everyone nearby. Apple would need to explain whether cameras are continuously active, activated only after a request or controlled through a physical switch. Users will also want a clearly visible recording indicator and straightforward controls for disabling capture.

Other important questions include whether visual inputs are stored, where images are processed, how long data is retained and how the devices handle faces, documents, children, medical information and confidential conversations. Apple’s privacy reputation may help adoption, but it is not proof that an unannounced product would be privacy-safe.

Workplaces, schools, hospitals and private venues may restrict camera wearables regardless of the technical safeguards. Social acceptance could matter as much as battery life or AI capability.

Battery, heat and connectivity

A small wearable must balance microphones, cameras, wireless communication and AI processing against comfort and battery capacity. More demanding features could mean shorter battery life, warmer earbuds, larger charging cases or more frequent charging.

If the devices depend on an iPhone, they may also increase phone battery use and become less useful when the phone is out of range or lacks cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. Regional restrictions could affect Siri, translation and cloud-based features.

Accessibility

Visual assistance could be valuable for people with low vision, while voice dictation, object descriptions, translation and audio navigation could make hands-free computing more useful. Those are potential benefits of the reported camera-and-Siri architecture, not announced Apple accessibility features. Any final product would need dependable accuracy, low latency and clear controls before it could be trusted in sensitive situations.

Timeline, pricing and availability

As of the reporting available through August 18, 2026, Apple had not announced any of the three products, published order pages or provided prices. There is no verified compatibility list, subscription plan, battery specification or confirmed regional availability.

The smart glasses reportedly have a 2027 target, with production potentially beginning in December 2026. The pendant and camera AirPods have no similarly firm public schedule. They should not be treated as a synchronized launch family.

Apple regularly develops experimental hardware that can be delayed, redesigned or canceled. The reported projects could also ship with fewer features than described, use different sensors or require a later version of Siri than expected. Readers should ignore unofficial “preorder” pages and avoid paying deposits for products Apple has not announced.

What to buy now

There is nothing to buy today that represents the rumored Apple products.

  • For smart glasses now: Ray-Ban Meta is the closest available comparison, subject to current regional, prescription and feature support.
  • For Apple audio now: consult the official AirPods range, but do not assume any current model has the reported cameras or visual Siri capabilities.
  • For the likely host ecosystem: Apple’s iPhone range is relevant to the reported strategy, but buying a particular iPhone solely to prepare for an unannounced accessory is not justified because compatibility has not been published.

The Humane AI Pin is best treated as a conceptual comparison rather than a recommendation. Its screenless, phone-replacement approach differs from the reported iPhone-dependent Apple pendant.

Bottom line

Apple appears to be exploring a broader ambient-AI strategy built around smart glasses, an iPhone-linked pendant and camera-equipped AirPods. The glasses have the clearest reported path toward a possible 2027 release; the other two projects are more speculative.

For now, this is a report about development plans, not a product announcement. The decisive issues will be Siri’s reliability, privacy controls, battery life, iPhone dependence and whether Apple can give each wearable a distinct purpose. Until Apple confirms the hardware, there is no verified price, preorder, release date or reason to buy an unofficial listing.
