Introduced at Geneva Watch Days in 2024, the Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 38 arrived in two limited-edition red-gold versions: Blue Aventurine, with a sparkling blue celestial dial, and Cliff Grey, with a sunray-brushed grey dial and a matte-blue moon-phase field. They share the same case, hand-wound movement and oversized astronomical display; the choice is chiefly about color, finish and edition size.
Two dial treatments, one Perpetual Moon 38
Arnold & Son presented both watches at Geneva Watch Days in 2024. The Blue Aventurine is reference 1GLBR.A01A.C282A; Cliff Grey is reference 1GLBR.U02A.C283A. Both have polished 18k red-gold cases measuring 38 mm across, sapphire crystals on both sides and stated water resistance of 30 metres. The 2024 launch report lists case thickness as 10.44 mm in its specifications, while rounding it to 10.4 mm in the article text.

Both are fitted with an 18k red-gold pin buckle. The edition limits and prices above are figures from the 2024 launch report, not confirmation of current stock or current retail pricing.
The oversized moon display
The defining feature is a moon-phase aperture measuring 29 mm across and spanning approximately 10 to 2 o’clock. An 11.2 mm iridescent white mother-of-pearl moon is hand-painted with shadow details. Cassiopeia and Ursa Major appear in the celestial scene, and the moon and stars are treated with Super-LumiNova to glow white in darkness.

The two versions frame this display differently: aventurine glass carries the Blue Aventurine’s sparkling blue look into the aperture, while Cliff Grey sets its moon against a grained matte-blue background. The aperture and astronomical display are shared; the difference is the visual treatment around them.
Hand-wound movement and moon-phase accuracy
Both references use Arnold & Son’s manually wound A&S1612 calibre. The 2024 product report gives a 90-hour power reserve, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and 24 jewels; movement dimensions are 29.4 mm by 4.95 mm. It describes radiating Côtes de Genève, circular satin-finished wheels, blued and chamfered screws, and polished, bevelled bridges, visible through the sapphire caseback.

The same report says the astronomical moon-phase indication remains accurate for 122 years if the watch is kept wound. That is the report’s conditional specification, not an independently tested result or a claim about moon-phase watches generally.
Which version is the better fit?
There is no reported technical-performance difference between these editions: they share the movement and case construction. The distinction is aesthetic and collector-oriented.

The smaller Cliff Grey edition was reported with the lower 2024 launch price, but neither figure should be treated as a current offer or evidence of relative value in today’s market.

Arnold & Son’s official site presents Perpetual Moon as part of its astronomy collection and provides an authorized-retailer locator. The reviewed site information does not confirm stock of either 2024 reference, so contact a retailer directly to check availability and current pricing.
