The ArtyA Complexity Métiers d’Art is a nine-piece, hand-decorated version of the Complexity, built around two inclined tourbillons—called Cônillons by ArtyA—and a differential. Its key distinction is not a new movement architecture: it retains the Complexity-01 calibre and adds extensive hand engraving and finishing, including a fully engraved dial and a black-rhodium-treated movement.
What is the ArtyA Complexity Métiers d’Art?
It is a mechanical wristwatch in a transparent synthetic sapphire case, with one inclined tourbillon at 12 o’clock and another at 6 o’clock. ArtyA calls each inclined cage a Cônillon. A differential connects the two regulators, while the Métiers d’Art version sets the mechanism against a substantially more elaborate, hand-decorated dial and movement.
ArtyA presents the double-Cônillon arrangement as a world premiere. That is the manufacturer’s historical-priority claim, not an independently established conclusion. The brand describes the watch as a mechanical sculpture intended to be viewed from every angle. ArtyA’s official Complexity Métiers d’Art page features founder Yvan Arpa’s description of the watch as “an extreme and spectacular mechanical sculpture.”
What is a Cônillon, and how does the double tourbillon work?
Inclined cages and gravity
A tourbillon places a watch’s regulating components in a rotating cage. In ArtyA’s explanation, the balance axis of an inclined tourbillon follows a conical path rather than the cylindrical path associated with a conventional, upright arrangement. The maker says this is intended to address the effects of gravity across several vertical positions. “Cônillon” is ArtyA’s name for its inclined tourbillon design, rather than a general term for every tourbillon.

The differential and the two regulators
The watch has two cages that rotate in offset directions, each making one rotation every 30 seconds, according to ArtyA. The brand says a differential distributes energy from the barrel between the two regulators and averages their rates. This describes the intended mechanism; it does not by itself establish a measured accuracy result. The available product information contains no independent chronometric test data supporting the brand’s claims about precision.
What does Métiers d’Art add?
The Métiers d’Art edition keeps the Complexity-01 calibre and the double-Cônillon-and-differential architecture. The change is the degree and character of the decoration: ArtyA contrasts this treatment with the base Complexity’s more restrained surfaces.

Hand-engraved dial and indexes
ArtyA describes the dial as entirely hand-engraved over a finely sandblasted base. Its radial marks are cut individually with a burin. The applied indexes combine hand-polished bevels, cabron-drawn sides and sandblasted upper faces, giving the dial several distinct surface treatments rather than a single uniform finish.
Textured and treated movement
The maker describes the movement’s upper surfaces as hand shot-blasted and its underside as hand-hammered. Other finishing includes hand beveling and polishing, cabron-drawn flanks, hand-perlaged recesses around the differential, and a hand-engraved, numbered plate. ArtyA says the movement receives black rhodium plating; laser engraving is used for regulatory and technical markings.

Who worked on the Complexity project?
ArtyA identifies Yvan Arpa as the company’s founder. In a LinkedIn post discussing the Complexity design process, Yvan credits Jérémie Arpa with design and visuals, Stan Arpa with technical guidance, and Purtec with movement manufacture. ArtyA’s product page describes Complexity-01 as developed with Purtec Sàrl in Vallorbe. These credits distinguish the design and visual work, technical guidance and movement manufacture; they do not mean every role was performed by the same person.

ArtyA describes the watch as a limited series of nine numbered pieces and says it is available by order through ArtyA Genève and its official retailers. The reviewed product pages do not state a price for this edition, so a price comparison with the base Complexity cannot be made from those materials.

How it differs from the base Complexity
The documented distinction is primarily in the finish, not the underlying movement concept. Both versions share the double Cônillon arrangement, differential and Complexity-01 calibre. The Métiers d’Art adds the hand-engraved dial, extensive hand-applied surface treatments, black rhodium plating and a nine-piece numbered edition. ArtyA does not provide a price for this edition in the reviewed product information.
