The Astor+Banks Sea Ranger M2 pairs a 40 mm case with a La Joux-Perret G100 automatic movement and a rotating internal 12-hour ring for tracking a second time zone. Its specifications are appealing on paper, including a 68-hour power reserve, 300 m water resistance and brand-rated magnetic protection to 20,000 A/m. Published hands-on reviews praise its proportions and practical features, but one reviewer found the ring could shift while the crown was being secured.
What the Sea Ranger M2 is—and what makes it different
The Sea Ranger M2 is a dual-crown automatic tool watch. Its upper crown controls an internal rotating ring marked for 12 hours; the lower crown sets the time. That ring is intended to track a second time zone, rather than measure elapsed dive time like a conventional external dive bezel.
The distinction matters in use: the M2’s second-time-zone indication is useful for following another location over a 12-hour cycle, but it is not a 24-hour display. The ring sits beneath the crystal, which keeps it protected, though operating it involves the upper crown.

How the internal 12-hour ring works
To use the ring, set it against the time in the second location using the upper crown. The ring then provides a 12-hour reference alongside the watch’s main time display. It is a straightforward way to monitor a second time zone without adding a second hour hand, but the 12-hour scale does not distinguish morning from evening by itself; the wearer must know whether the reference location is on its AM or PM half of the day.
The upper crown is the mechanism’s main usability trade-off. In his January 24, 2025 review, Zach Kazan of Worn & Wound found it difficult to keep the ring aligned while pushing the crown in and screwing it down. He reported that the ring could move slightly during that operation. That is a specific reviewer’s observation, not evidence that every example behaves identically, but it is worth considering if precise alignment is important to you.

How it wears, including on a smaller wrist
The case measures 45.5 mm from lug to lug, a useful figure to compare with a watch that already fits well. Diameter alone does not determine fit: lug shape, wrist contour and the bracelet or strap all affect how a 40 mm watch sits.
Reviews offer encouraging but individual impressions. Kazan described the proportions as balanced and the watch as having a pleasing heft. Vincent Deschamps, reviewing the black version for Fratello on February 1, 2025, reported comfortable wear on his 16.5 cm (6.5 in) wrist. These experiences suggest the dimensions can work for some smaller-wrist wearers, but do not guarantee a fit for every wrist.

What reviewers liked—and what gave them pause
Useful tool-watch specifications
The manufacturer lists 30 ATM water resistance, a 68-hour reserve and soft-iron plates rated by the brand to 20,000 A/m. Fratello’s review of the black version highlighted the magnetic protection, lume and scratch-resistant coating as useful tool-watch features. These are published specifications and a reviewer’s assessment; they should not be read as a substitute for appropriate care or as a guarantee of performance in every environment.
Lume, bracelet and strap impressions
Kazan praised the luminous bezel and described the bracelet as comfortable and the rubber strap as pliable. Deschamps also valued the luminous display and the bracelet’s quick-adjust clasp. These are subjective impressions from their respective reviews, not standardized tests.

Case-finish criticism
Kazan considered the brushed case finishing dull and the case geometry pedestrian. That is a matter of taste, but it points to a clear distinction: the M2’s appeal is rooted more in its dimensions and functional specification than in an especially distinctive case silhouette or finish, at least in that reviewer’s assessment.

Choose based on how you expect to wear the watch. A bracelet offers the quick-adjust buckle noted in the listing and appreciated by the Fratello reviewer; the rubber strap may suit a lighter, more flexible feel, which Kazan described as pliable. Fratello published historical prices of US$1,299 on bracelet and US$1,149 on FKM rubber in its February 2025 black-variant review. Those are dated figures, not current quotes. The manufacturer’s Army Green page displayed $1,299 when accessed in 2026.
Is the Astor+Banks Sea Ranger M2 worth considering?
The M2 makes the most sense for someone who wants a compactly proportioned, dual-crown automatic with a protected second-time-zone ring and substantial stated water and magnetic protection. Its 45.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 12.5 mm thickness are central fit considerations; published reviews found it comfortable on one 16.5 cm wrist and balanced in proportion, but trying it on remains the surest way to judge personal fit.
Before choosing it over a conventional dive watch, ask whether a 12-hour second-time-zone ring is more useful to you than an elapsed-time bezel. Also consider the crown-setting friction reported by Worn & Wound and whether the case finishing appeals to you. The feature set is compelling, but those details are the difference between specifications that look good and a watch that suits your daily preferences.
