The Longines Heritage Military Marine Nationale is modern reference L2.833.4.93.2, a 2020 reissue inspired by Longines’ mid-century reference 5774. What is the Longines Heritage Military Marine Nationale?
Longines introduced the Heritage Military Marine Nationale in 2020 as a revival of its historical reference 5774. Specialist launch coverage identifies the modern model as reference L2.833.4.93.2. The name nods to the French Navy, but the historical claim should be kept specific: Longines says reference 5774 served French Navy crews, particularly when diving in shallow waters. It does not establish a broader military-service history for the watch.

In its 25 August 2020 announcement, Longines wrote that “the Longines watch referenced as 5774, proudly served the crews of the French Navy, in particular when diving in shallow waters.” The company says the reissue revives that timepiece and retains its counterweight seconds hand, a key visual link between the two watches.

The figures below come from Fratello’s launch-era coverage, not a current technical sheet. Hodinkee’s contemporary report agrees on several headline details but identifies a different L888 movement variant; the conflicting base-caliber descriptions are shown separately rather than treated as settled.

How it wears and what the design signals
At 38.5 mm across and 47 mm lug-to-lug, the reported dimensions give a more useful sense of its wrist presence than diameter alone. The case is 13 mm thick, and the 19 mm lug width is a less common strap size than 20 mm, so check sizing carefully before buying replacement straps. These are launch-era specifications; verify the exact watch and current seller details before relying on them.
The beige dial, painted numerals and brown leather strap give the watch a deliberately aged, military-inspired appearance. The counterweight seconds hand is the most explicit design carryover Longines calls out from reference 5774. The vintage styling is therefore not just a color treatment: the hand design is part of the stated historical link.

Does 30 m water resistance make it suitable for swimming?
No swimming or diving recommendation follows from a 30 m rating. That number is the launch-reported water-resistance specification, not evidence that this reissue is appropriate for the shallow-water diving Longines associates with the historical reference. Treat it as a dress-oriented watch around water and consult Longines’ current guidance for the exact reference before exposing it to water.
