The Astor+Banks Terra Scout is now listed by the Chicago brand as The Field Watch Classic. Its compact 38.5 mm case, long-reserve automatic movement and substantial stated water and magnetic protection give it credible field-watch specifications; its layered dial and ring-style date make it less conventional than the category’s plainest options. Astor+Banks lists it at $995 with a six-week delivery estimate, as of October 7, 2026. Those are seller-listed details, not an independent test or a promise of future availability.

What is the Terra Scout called now?

The watch launched as the Terra Scout, but Astor+Banks’ current product page uses the name The Field Watch Classic while retaining the Terra Scout product URL. The brand’s page also states, “No affiliation with Scout Motor Company.” That establishes the current displayed name and disclaimer; it does not establish an officially confirmed reason for the naming change. Astor+Banks’ listing uses the former model wording in its product description: “The Terra Scout is our modern interpretation of the classic field watch, a watch that is rooted in military necessity—designed to be tough, legible, and reliable above all else.”

Mainspring Watch Magazine reported in July 2026 that the watch had been released under the Terra Scout name and that a subsequent batch would carry a different name, which was then unannounced. Independent coverage has discussed a naming dispute, but the current brand listing does not confirm that as the reason. Mainspring’s July review is useful context, while the live brand page is the relevant reference for the current name and listing.

Price, delivery and launch context

As of October 7, 2026, Astor+Banks displays a price of $995 and asks customers to allow six weeks for delivery. Both details can change; check the official product page before ordering.

#1 Best Overall
BERNY Titanium Automatic Watch, 10ATM Waterproof Men's Military Field Watch
  • Sleek & Functional Design: This sophisticated titanium men's watch showcases a distinctive dial layout with dedicated markers for minutes, 12-hour, and 24-hour time displays. Arabic numerals ensure optimal legibility, while the bold red-tipped second hand injects a subtle yet striking accent. The inclusion of a practical date window further elevates its everyday versatility.
  • Lightweight & Durable Titanium Construction: Crafted from premium titanium, the case combines brushed and polished finishes for a refined yet rugged aesthetic. Renowned for its featherlight weight and exceptional resilience, titanium offers superior corrosion resistance. The screw-down case back enhances durability.
  • Clear AR Coated Sapphire Lens & Super Luminous: Fitted with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, this automatic watch delivers unmatched clarity and scratch resistance. The watch hands coated with super-luminous material for easy readability even in low-light conditions.
  • Precision Japanese Movement & 10ATM Water-Resistant: Powered by a precise Miyota 8215 automatic movement, this timepiece ensures accurate timekeeping and long-term reliability. With a 10ATM water resistance rating, it’s built to accompany you on outdoor adventures without compromise.
  • Quick-Release Nylon Strap for Comfort: The lightweight nylon strap prioritizes comfort for all-day wear, while the quick-release mechanism allows for effortless strap changes to suit any occasion. Low-maintenance and durable, it’s designed for convenience.

The price has had different launch phases. Hodinkee reported January 2026 preorder prices of $875 for standard versions and $975 for Desert Sand, with planned prices after March 1 of $995 and $1,195, respectively. Those are historical launch prices, not additional current offers. The Time Bum wrote in June that versions were sold out at the time and that a small batch was expected at the end of that month; the brand’s current six-week delivery estimate is the more pertinent availability information now.

Case size and fit

The case is 38.5 mm across, but diameter alone understates its footprint: Astor+Banks lists a 46 mm lug-to-lug length and 12.4 mm thickness including the box crystal, or 10.4 mm without it. The case is sandblasted 316L stainless steel. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.

The 20 mm lug width, reported by The Time Bum, gives owners a common strap width to shop for. But no replacement is necessary to start wearing it: the package includes both a canvas strap and an FKM rubber strap. The Time Bum reviewer found the canvas strap stiff on the review sample; that is one reviewer’s observation, not a universal fit verdict.

Layered dial: distinctive, but not the simplest field layout

The defining design feature is a three-layer sandwich dial, with cutouts and contrasting surfaces creating depth over an otherwise relatively simple case. Hodinkee’s launch coverage described four original variants: black and white dials in sandblasted steel, a black dial with a matte DLC case, and a white dial with Desert Sand Cerakote, limited to 100 pieces. It also reported that the white version has a fully lumed dial, while the black version shows lume through the dial cutouts. Astor+Banks’ listing accessed for this review displayed a black-dial version; original launch options should not be assumed to be in current stock.

CITIZEN Men's Eco-Drive Avion 43mm Stainless Steel BM7550-01E
  • Men's luxury timepieces with technical advancements and a sporty style
  • 3 Hand, Date
  • Silver-Tone Stainless Steel
  • Spherical Mineral Crystal
  • 100 Meters Water Resistant and 5 Year Limited Warranty

The date is arranged as a circular track rather than a conventional framed window. Hodinkee regarded the track as visually deliberate and distinct from the time display; The Time Bum found it less readable in practice than a standard date window. That disagreement captures the trade-off: the ring date reinforces the dial’s design, but it may take more attention to read quickly.

The Time Bum reviewer also noted that the minute marks are not lumed, limiting precise low-light reading to quarter-hour blocks on the sample they used. That is a practical qualification for anyone who expects exact minute reading in darkness, despite the dial’s luminous elements.

Movement and tool-watch specifications

Astor+Banks specifies an LJP G100 automatic movement with a 68-hour power reserve and says each movement is adjusted in-house to ±8 seconds per day. It lists a sapphire box crystal with underside anti-reflective coating, screw-down crown, water resistance of 660 ft, and soft-iron plates intended to provide magnetic protection up to 20,000 A/m. These are the manufacturer’s stated specifications; the sources reviewed do not establish independent water-resistance or magnetic-resistance test results.

Taken together, those claims make the watch more than a styling exercise on paper: the reserve is useful for a watch not worn every day, while the screw-down crown and stated resistance ratings suggest robust everyday capability. They should still be read as product specifications rather than proof of how a particular example performs after wear or exposure.

What reviewers found in use

The Time Bum’s June 2026 hands-on review is the clearest account of wear. The reviewer used the watch outdoors, praised its general field usefulness and dial character, and reported noticeable wear on the steel case of the review sample. They also criticized the ring date’s legibility and the canvas strap’s stiffness. The reviewer did not have the included FKM strap on hand, so their review does not assess its quality. These are attributed observations from that reviewer, not findings from our own wear test. Read the full review for its firsthand context.

Mainspring Watch Magazine’s July 2026 review offers a second independent discussion of the layered dial, movement and construction. Its naming and price details are dated, so they should not override the current official listing for present-day facts.

What comes in the package?

Astor+Banks lists a canvas strap, an FKM rubber strap, a Horween leather single-watch wallet and a five-year warranty with the watch. The two supplied straps make an additional purchase optional; owners wanting another look can use a compatible 20 mm strap, but the sources here do not establish a tested or endorsed third-party option.

Who should consider it?

  • Consider it if you want a field-style automatic with a modest diameter, a visibly dimensional dial, a long stated power reserve and more substantial stated water and magnetic protection than a purely dress-oriented watch.
  • Think twice if immediate date reading, a clean conventional dial, or precise luminous minute markers are priorities. The independent reviewer’s concerns about the ring date and unlumed minute marks are relevant trade-offs.
  • Check before buying if you are set on a particular color or case finish. Original launch coverage described four variants, but the current listing may not offer all of them.

At the currently displayed $995, the Terra Scout/The Field Watch Classic’s case for itself rests on the combination of layered design, a detailed specification sheet and included accessories—not on a conventional, maximally spare field-watch layout. The listed price and delivery estimate are current-page details as of October 7, 2026, and may change.
