The 2023 titanium Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT (ref. 26650TI.OO.D013CA.01) is a 43 mm automatic watch built around a rare combination: flyback chronograph, split-seconds timing, GMT and a large date. Its most distinctive technical choice is to make the split-seconds mechanism visible through the sapphire caseback. The result is a highly complicated, visually exposed Concept watch—not a restrained everyday chronograph. This review covers the titanium reference; AP’s later colored forged-carbon version is a separate model.
What makes this Royal Oak Concept different?
The watch’s appeal rests on the way it combines four functions in a single openworked design. The flyback chronograph supports rapid repeated timing, the split-seconds hand can mark an intermediate time, the GMT display tracks a second time zone, and a large date adds a practical calendar indication. Audemars Piguet houses these functions in its angular Concept case rather than the more familiar Royal Oak format.
AP describes the dial as cut from a single German silver plate and designed to reveal the mechanics. White-gold markers and hands stand out against the openworked black dial, with red and yellow accents distinguishing functions. The case is sandblasted titanium with multifaceted surfaces; ceramic is used for the pushers and crown. The sapphire caseback provides the more unusual view: the split-seconds wheel and actuating clamps are integrated within the central rotor bearing.
How do the flyback and split-seconds functions work?
Flyback: reset and restart in one action
A standard chronograph generally has to be stopped before it can be reset and started again. With flyback, the wearer can reset and restart the chronograph without first stopping it. That makes the function useful for timing consecutive intervals, such as successive legs of an event.

Split-seconds: capture an intermediate time
The split-seconds hand moves in step with the main chronograph hand. Pressing its control stops that hand to record an intermediate time while the chronograph continues running. Pressing again releases it to catch up with the main hand. The two functions are distinct: flyback restarts timing in one action; split-seconds preserves a separate reading while the primary chronograph carries on.

What is Calibre 4407?
Calibre 4407 is the automatic movement powering the titanium model’s chronograph, split-seconds, GMT and large-date functions. Monochrome Watches’ 2023 review reports dimensions of 32 mm by 8.92 mm, 638 parts, 73 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 70-hour power reserve. It also describes a column wheel, vertical clutch and proprietary zero-reset mechanism. These detailed caliber figures are reported by Monochrome rather than on the AP product page.
The dimensions of the complete watch are 43 mm across and 17.4 mm thick. AP lists water resistance at 50 m. Those specifications frame the watch as a substantial, technically ambitious sports watch; they do not establish how it wears or performs in daily use.

How does the titanium model compare with the forged-carbon version?
AP introduced a colored forged-carbon CFT version in 2024, reference 26650FO.OO.D353CA.01. Its complication set remains the same as the titanium model’s; the principal distinction is material and visual treatment.

AP says the CFT material followed five years of research and development. Its R&D Director, Lucas Raggi, said: “After five years of research and development, we are proud to present a brand-new generation of forged carbon, which can be coloured while retaining its excellent mechanical properties.” The claim about mechanical properties is AP’s, and no independent performance study or comparative test is established by the cited sources.

What is the strap system like?
AP says the titanium model introduced the first interchangeable strap in the Royal Oak Concept collection. Its click-and-release system is integrated with the case and triple-blade folding clasp. The manufacturer describes the arrangement as secure while worn, but the available product information does not provide independent safety testing, a replacement-parts catalog or confirmation of third-party strap compatibility.
Price and availability
Monochrome reported a 2023 launch price of CHF 170,000 excluding taxes for the titanium model. That is a dated launch-price report, not a verified current retail price. Current pricing and availability by country are not established here.
