What does “openworked” mean on this Royal Oak?
Openworking makes the movement’s bridges and mainplate visible rather than hiding them behind a solid dial. AP describes the .02’s bridges and mainplate as rhodium-toned; the openworked construction puts the movement at the center of the watch’s appearance. The flying tourbillon is also one of the stated functions, alongside hours and minutes in Hodinkee’s .01 launch report.
In his review, Logan Baker wrote, “Really, I think all I’d need to last me until the Royal Oak’s 100th anniversary is this watch and a loupe.” That is the reviewer’s personal reaction, not an Audemars Piguet recommendation.
