Audemars Piguet’s 2023 releases ranged across three collections: the black-ceramic Royal Oak Offshore chronograph nicknamed “The Beast,” new Royal Oak models, and a significant expansion of Code 11.59. The Code 11.59 changes brought the collection its first steel cases, a smaller 38 mm size and a new radial-wave dial; the year also included the technically ambitious RD#4 Universal.
What were Audemars Piguet’s 2023 watches?
The lineup was a collection of releases, not one watch. The February 2, 2023 report from Fratello detailed the Royal Oak Offshore “The Beast,” two Royal Oak models and Code 11.59 steel and gold variants. Audemars Piguet’s 2023 novelties page now serves as a retrospective landing page. The collections addressed different tastes and sizes, rather than offering direct alternatives: a large ceramic sports chronograph, precious-metal Royal Oaks and a broader Code 11.59 range.

What is the black ceramic Royal Oak Offshore “The Beast”?
“The Beast” is the nickname associated with the returning Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Chronograph, reference 26238CE.OO.1300CE.01. Fratello’s February 2023 report specifies a 42 × 15.3 mm black-ceramic case and matching bracelet, giving the familiar Offshore shape a monochrome ceramic treatment.

Its caliber 4404 is a selfwinding flyback chronograph movement, with a reported 70-hour power reserve. The flyback function allows the chronograph to be reset and restarted in one action. Fratello reported a launch price of €84,000 in February 2023; that figure is not a current price.
How did the Royal Oak releases differ?
Turquoise dial in yellow gold
Reference 15550BA.OO.1356BA.01 paired a 37 mm 18-carat yellow-gold case and bracelet with a natural turquoise dial. Because the dial is cut from natural stone, Fratello noted that each one differs. The watch uses caliber 5900, with a reported 60-hour power reserve. Its February 2023 launch-era price was reported as €61,200.

White-gold “Jumbo” Extra-Thin
Reference 16202BC.OO.1240BC.02 took a different direction: a 39 mm white-gold case with a blue grained dial. Fratello described it as boutique-only at launch and reported a price of €78,000 in February 2023. Those details describe the launch context, not current access or pricing.
What changed in the 2023 Code 11.59?
The 2023 update broadened Code 11.59 in three visible ways: stainless steel entered the collection for the first time, a 38 mm case size arrived in rose gold, and the dials gained a radial-wave design. Audemars Piguet’s October 25, 2023 account describes two 38 mm rose-gold selfwinding models and the collection’s first 41 mm stainless-steel cases, including selfwinding and chronograph options.

A smaller case and a first steel option
The new 38 mm size gave the line a more compact choice than its 41 mm steel models. The case material and size are distinct options, not a single uniform update: rose gold was used for the 38 mm selfwinding models, while stainless steel appeared in 41 mm selfwinding and chronograph versions.
The radial-wave dial
Developed with Swiss guilloché craftsman Yann von Kaenel, the new dial uses concentric circles to create a radial-wave effect. Audemars Piguet describes elongated gold indices and hands treated with luminescent material. The brand reports that production takes about 1.5 months from stamping to coloring, and that placing the hands takes about 45 minutes per dial.

Fratello’s February 2023 coverage reported launch-era prices of €25,200 for the 41 mm steel selfwinding models and €34,800 for the chronographs. These are historical reported prices, not current quotations.

The Code 11.59 Ultra-Complication Universelle RD#4, reference 26398, was a separate technical centerpiece from the collection’s material and dial updates. Audemars Piguet describes its white-gold model as having 40 functions, 23 complications and 17 technical devices, developed over seven years. The manufacturer also says the watch won the 2023 GPHG Aiguille d’Or. These figures and the award attribution are the brand’s account.

What else did Code 11.59 add in 2023?
The Code 11.59 Starwheel also dates to 2023. In its official history, Audemars Piguet says the watch revives a display speciality that originated in the 17th century and that the manufacture rediscovered in 1991. It adds a historical horological thread to a year otherwise marked by the collection’s new case materials, size and dial treatment.
