How the 5164A Travel Time works
The 5164A is designed to show two time zones at once, rather than independently track an unlimited number of zones. The solid hour hand indicates local time; the skeletonized hand indicates home time. Two case pushers move the local hour hand forward or backward in one-hour increments. Patek Philippe’s instructions explain that the local hand is disconnected from the movement during adjustment, so changing local time does not compromise the rate accuracy shown by the minute and seconds hands.
Separate day/night apertures show whether it is day or night at home and at the destination. The date is linked to local time, so it follows the local-hour setting when the wearer adjusts for travel. Patek Philippe describes the reference as indicating time in two different time zones at a glance in its official collection material and instructions for use.

These specifications are stated for the 5164A-001 in Patek Philippe’s 2023 catalog. The reviewed catalog does not provide a power-reserve figure for the steel reference, so the 35–45-hour figure listed for the 5164G should not be transferred to the 5164A.
Is the Patek Philippe 5164A discontinued?
The steel 5164A is generally treated as discontinued. On 20 February 2024, Phillips reported that the reference had disappeared from Patek Philippe’s website and described it as discontinued. Patek does not generally issue a press release for every discontinued reference; the reviewed official pages do not give a direct 5164A discontinuation announcement or exact final-production date. Phillips’ dated report is therefore the basis for the status, not a stated end-of-production date.

5164A vs. 5164R vs. 5164G
The letter identifies a distinct metal variant, not an interchangeable specification sheet. The steel A and rose-gold R were listed together in Patek Philippe’s 2023 catalog with the same movement and function family and a 120 m water-resistance rating. The white-gold G is a later variant launched in 2024. Its official product page lists a 30 m rating, a blue-gray dial and composite strap, and provides additional dimensions and power-reserve information for that G reference only.

The clearest documented specification difference is water resistance: the 2023 catalog rates the steel A at 120 m, while the current official G page lists 30 m. The G’s current page also displays $71,643, but that is a volatile displayed price for the G—not a retail or resale valuation for the discontinued steel A.
