The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS is a slim, 41 mm steel sports watch powered by Chopard’s automatic L.U.C 96.40-L. The exact reference matters: 298623-3001 has a Monte Rosa pink dial, while 298623-3003 has a Mountain Glow ivory dial. Chopard lists the ivory version at 8 mm thick, with 100 m water resistance, a 65-hour approximate power reserve, COSC certification and the Poinçon de Genève hallmark. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results of independent testing for this article.

What is the Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS?

The Alpine Eagle 41 XPS is a thin, automatic steel watch in Chopard’s Alpine Eagle collection. Chopard traces the collection to its 1980 St Moritz watch, created by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, and describes the Alpine Eagle as his personal reinterpretation inspired by the Alps and the eagle. That is the manufacturer’s account of the collection’s history.

The model’s central technical pairing is a 41 mm case with the L.U.C 96.40-L automatic movement. For the ivory-dial 298623-3003, Chopard lists an 8 mm case thickness. The brand calls the movement a direct evolution of the first movement conceived and produced by Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier in 1996.

What is the difference between Alpine Eagle 41 XPS 298623-3001 and 298623-3003?

The clearest established differences are dial color and the US prices displayed on Chopard’s listings on October 7, 2026. Do not assume other details carry over between references without checking the individual product page.

What does the XPS movement and construction mean in practice?

A slim case with a slim automatic caliber

An 8 mm-thick case gives the ivory 3003 a notably restrained profile on paper for an automatic watch with an integrated steel bracelet. Its listed L.U.C 96.40-L movement is 3.30 mm thick. Those figures describe dimensions; they do not establish how the watch will fit a particular wrist or feel in wear.

Two barrels and a micro-rotor

Chopard says the caliber uses two stacked barrels and a 22-carat gold micro-rotor. The micro-rotor winds the automatic movement without the conventional full-size rotor architecture, while the two-barrel arrangement is part of the brand’s Twin Technology. Chopard gives the resulting reserve as approximately 65 hours. These are the maker’s technical descriptions and specification claims.

Steel alloy claim

The Fondation Haute Horlogerie says Lucent Steel used in the Alpine Eagle contains 80% recycled metal. Its researched page does not state a publication year. This is the foundation’s reported alloy figure, not an independently verified measurement here.

What does the independent hands-on coverage add?

Fratello’s hands-on article on the Alpine Eagle 41 XPS discusses the watch and its L.U.C 96.40-L movement, and offers the reviewer’s expectations for a luxury steel sports watch at this price. Those expectations are an editorial value judgment, not a technical standard. No wrist-fit, comfort, timekeeping, finishing or clasp-operation results are established here, so treat those as questions to assess in person rather than claims about this watch.

What to check before choosing a reference

  • Confirm the complete reference number and dial description; the 3001 and 3003 are not the same dial variant.
  • Check the relevant country’s Chopard listing for current price, availability and features. Price and specifications can vary by reference and market.
  • For bracelet or clasp details, rely on the page for the exact reference rather than inferring them from another XPS listing.
  • If comparing the XPS with another watch, compare case thickness, movement architecture, stated power reserve, certification, water resistance, bracelet adjustment and price on a like-for-like basis.
