Audemars Piguet’s Chroma Gold is a polychrome camouflage-gold concept: differently colored gold powders are patterned in a mold and consolidated into a single solid piece using Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS). A 34 mm Royal Oak example appeared in a report published on 31 May 2024, which said the material had not been commercialized at that time. That dated report does not establish whether it has since become available.
What is Chroma Gold?
Chroma Gold is Audemars Piguet’s name for a research concept that brings contrasting gold colors together in a camouflage-like pattern. The 2024 watch-trade report describes white, yellow and pink gold colors in one piece. Rather than applying a colored surface treatment or joining separately made colored components, the process is described as producing a solid piece of patterned gold.
The concept belongs to a wider Chroma materials project. Audemars Piguet’s Heritage Team describes that project as combining several colors in a homogeneous block and says its 2024 research results included prototypes made with differently colored golds: The Journey of Mastering Materials.
How the camouflage pattern is made
According to Audemars Piguet’s explanation quoted by Monochrome Watches, the colors are processed separately: gold is melted, then droplets are atomized into powder. The differently colored powders are placed in a circular graphite mold to form the desired pattern. The mold is then subjected to an electric current and pressure, consolidating the powder into a disc in which the separate gold shades remain visible. The specific powder sequence and mold description come from the trade report, not from the company’s broader ceramic announcement.

This method is called Spark Plasma Sintering. In its 30 January 2024 announcement about polychrome ceramic, Audemars Piguet described SPS as a rapid powder-sintering technique that uses electric current to heat the mold. The company said it would also apply the technique to materials including gold. Research and Development Director Lucas Raggi said of that prospective application: “This innovative technique will also be applied to other materials, notably gold, opening up new creative perspectives for the brand.” The statement described a direction for materials research, not a retail launch. Monochrome Watches showed Chroma Gold in a 34 mm Royal Oak example in its report dated 31 May 2024: Just Because: Audemars Piguet Unveils an Unprecedented Polychrome Camouflage Gold Alloy. The example illustrates how the differently colored regions can appear in a watch case; it should be understood as a research example or prototype, not proof that a production watch was offered for sale.

What is known about availability?
The 31 May 2024 Monochrome report explicitly said Chroma Gold had not been commercialized at the time. That is a historical status statement, not confirmation of its status in 2026. The available information here does not establish a current production model, retail availability, price, or a broader collection of Chroma Gold watches.
Nor do the cited sources specify the gold’s exact karat or composition, quantify durability or performance, or establish production volumes. Audemars Piguet’s statement that SPS reduces ceramic sintering from “several hours” to “a few dozen minutes” is a process-time claim in its ceramic announcement; it is not a Chroma Gold performance statistic.
