What does the Audemars Piguet intelligent watch box do?
It automates the setting and winding of the latest 41 mm Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar wristwatches specified by Audemars Piguet. The company presents it as an additional way to handle a task that has traditionally called for watchmaking knowledge and specialized tools. It is a setting device, not simply a conventional watch winder: the described process also adjusts calendar indications.
Audemars Piguet first presented the device during Dubai Watch Week. It was co-developed with Dubai Future Labs, the Dubai Future Foundation’s robotics and applied research initiative. Audemars Piguet’s announcement, dated 19 November 2025, describes the standalone device as combining mechanical engineering, robotics, computer vision and AI.
How does the automatic setting process work?
- Place the watch inside. The process begins when the watch is positioned in the device.
- The camera captures the dial. The system analyzes the dial configuration to determine which calendar indications need adjustment.
- The device sets and winds the watch. Audemars Piguet says the complete setting operation takes approximately five minutes.
The five-minute figure is the company’s stated approximate duration for the complete operation; the announcement does not provide further timing conditions or a separate breakdown for each step.

Which watches is it designed for?
Audemars Piguet specifies its latest 41 mm Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar watches. The company says Caliber 7138’s all-in-one crown made the setting device possible. Its announcement does not establish compatibility with other Royal Oak models, other Audemars Piguet watches, or watches using different calibers, so broader compatibility should not be assumed.
Who developed and designed the device?
The technical collaboration brought together Audemars Piguet and Dubai Future Labs. For the device’s appearance, the brand says its in-house design teams worked closely with Italian designer Max Terio. Audemars Piguet frames the object as an extension of its design language beyond the wrist; that is the company’s design description, rather than an independently assessed specification.
