Seiko announced the opening of its first Australian Seiko boutique on 2 March 2016, at Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building (QVB). The boutique was planned as more than a place to buy watches: Seiko said visitors could explore its history, craftsmanship and watch collections, with a resident watchmaker available for technical information and assistance.
When and where did Australia’s first Seiko boutique open?
Seiko Australia’s 2 March 2016 announcement placed the boutique at Shop 63, Lower Ground Floor, Queen Victoria Building, Sydney NSW 2000. The release described the opening celebration as taking place that evening at the Swissotel Sydney.

The announcement presented the QVB as a Sydney landmark that had first served as a market and, since 1986, as a collection of luxury retail stores. It offered that history as background, without stating that it was Seiko’s reason for choosing the venue.
What did Seiko say visitors would experience?
Seiko said the boutique would showcase its prestigious collections, naming Grand Seiko, Astron and Credor. The announcement also said several watches on display had not previously been offered in Australia. It did not identify those watches or establish which models were available on opening day.

The company described its aim as giving visitors an opportunity to explore “the world of Seiko through its history, its craftsmanship and its finest watches.” This was Seiko’s corporate statement, not a quotation attributed to a named individual. A resident Seiko watchmaker was planned to provide technical information and assistance to customers.
Who attended the opening celebration?
Seiko Watch Corporation COO Hirohiko Umemoto hosted the celebration at the Swissotel Sydney. The announcement also named Seiko Australia Managing Director Toru Koizumi and Masato Takaoka, Japan’s Consul-General in New South Wales, among the participants. It did not include a named-person quotation about the opening.

Where is the Sydney Seiko boutique now?
The QVB was the original 2016 location, not the current address identified by most of Seiko’s current Sydney listings. A Jewellery World trade report dated 5 August 2022 said Seiko Australia had announced the boutique’s relocation to MidCity Shopping Centre. The report described the later shop as an 80-square-metre space with a street-front showcase; that detail applies to the relocated boutique, not the QVB store.
As checked on 8 October 2026, Seiko’s corporate store locator lists Shop L0073, Ground Floor, MidCity Centre, 197 Pitt Street, Sydney. Seiko’s Boutique directory and contact page also list Mid-City, while the Seiko 5 Sports shop-list page still shows the former QVB location. Because Seiko’s own pages do not agree, confirm the address and opening hours directly with the retailer before visiting. Seiko also notes that store information and product inventory can change or vary between stores.
