The 2022 CHANEL WANTED capsule reworked four established watch families around the house wordmark: J12, Première, Boy·Friend, and Code Coco. Its two J12 versions are distinct watches: a 38 mm black ceramic automatic with Calibre 12.1 and a 33 mm white ceramic quartz model. The name is sometimes rendered “J12 Wanted de CHANEL”; the WANTED J12s are historical capsule editions, not the same as current standard J12 references.
What was the CHANEL WANTED capsule?
Reported in June 2022, WANTED applied CHANEL lettering in different ways to four of the brand’s signature watch families: J12, Première, Boy·Friend, and Code Coco. The design idea was most direct on the J12: the wordmark became a prominent dial feature rather than a discreet logo.

Fratello’s June 22, 2022 coverage describes the capsule and its two regular J12 editions. Time International’s 2022 coverage also identifies the black 38 mm and white 33 mm J12 variants.
How the two WANTED J12 watches differ
| Feature | Black J12 WANTED | White J12 WANTED |
|---|---|---|
| Case size and color | 38 mm, black ceramic | 33 mm, white ceramic |
| Movement | Self-winding Calibre 12.1 | Quartz |
| Dial treatment | A large white CHANEL wordmark crosses the dial and bezel | Repeated polished rhodium-plated lettering across the dial |
| Reported period retail price | €8,100, as reported by Fratello in 2022 | €6,150, as reported by Fratello in 2022 |
| Water resistance | 200 m, reported for the capsule variants by Time International in 2022 | 200 m, reported for the capsule variants by Time International in 2022 |
The size, movement, and dial treatment are the clearest practical distinctions. The black version pairs the larger case with the automatic Calibre 12.1; the white version is smaller and quartz-powered. The euro prices are historical reported retail prices from 2022, not current CHANEL prices or estimates of resale value.

The separate Highly Wanted box
The Highly Wanted presentation was a limited set concept, separate from the regular black and white WANTED J12 editions. Fratello reported that its black lacquered wooden box contained six special J12s, with tone-on-tone black graphics, matte black finishes, black-coated steel bezels, diamond-set crowns, and black-finished Calibre 12.1 movements with diamond-set oscillating weights.
According to that 2022 report, the six watches could also be sold individually, and the box and each watch were numbered and limited to five pieces each. That reported five-piece limit applies to the Highly Wanted box and its watches; it should not be applied to the regular WANTED J12 editions. Current availability, ownership, and prices for the set are not established by those launch-era details.

How WANTED relates to the current J12 Caliber 12.1
CHANEL’s current US catalog lists reference H9541, a standard black ceramic J12 Caliber 12.1, at $16,000. It is a useful example of the current J12 family, but it is not identified as the WANTED edition and its price should not be confused with either 2022 WANTED price. See CHANEL’s current H9541 product page.
For H9541, CHANEL specifies a 38 × 12.6 mm black ceramic case with yellow-gold elements, a self-winding movement produced at Swiss Manufacture Kenissi, approximately 70 hours of power reserve, Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute certification, and 200 m water resistance. The page says J12 watches are developed and assembled at CHANEL’s Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. These are H9541 specifications; they should not be transferred wholesale to a WANTED model without model-specific documentation.

The cited 2022 coverage establishes the WANTED watches’ launch-era details, but does not establish whether CHANEL still sells them or what they currently trade for. If considering a listing, verify the exact variant and reference, authenticity, condition, provenance, and seller terms; a marketplace search result alone does not establish that a watch is genuine or that its seller is authorized.
