The AVI-8 Bell X-1 Machbuster is a contemporary aviation-inspired chronograph, not a flight instrument or a recreation of the Bell X-1’s cockpit equipment. For the AV-4118, AVI-8 publishes a 41 mm stainless-steel case, Japanese meca-quartz chronograph movement, mineral lens, 22 mm band and 5 ATM water-resistance rating. Its name refers to the research aircraft flown by Chuck Yeager in the first supersonic flight credited by NASA.
What the AVI-8 Bell X-1 Machbuster is
AVI-8 places the Machbuster Chronograph in its Bell X-1 watch line. The brand describes the design as made to honour the Bell X-1; that is an inspiration claim, not evidence that the watch was used in aviation or reproduces aircraft instruments.

Movement and what the label tells you
AVI-8 identifies the movement category as Japanese meca-quartz chronograph. The product page does not name a specific caliber or publish performance tolerances, so the category alone is not enough to establish accuracy or other movement-level performance.
Size, strap and water resistance
The 41 mm case, 13 mm thickness and 51 mm lug-to-lug are the brand’s stated dimensions. The 22 mm band width is a useful starting point when considering a replacement strap, but width alone does not confirm that a particular strap’s attachment, shape or taper will fit. Check compatibility for the exact watch and strap before buying.

AVI-8 lists 5 ATM water resistance. That is the published rating; the product information cited here does not establish that this particular watch is suitable for every water activity. Do not treat the rating as a blanket guarantee for swimming, diving or other exposure.

How the Bell X-1 connection fits
The historical Bell X-1 was an experimental aircraft in a flight-research program, not a production passenger plane. NASA describes the XS-1 as “the first high-speed aircraft built purely for aviation research purposes.”
